That evening, as Juin waited for Wesley outside the latter's school, he could not help but rub his sore cheek constantly. "Did she have to use so much force?"

He had to attend the last of his classes for the day with a sore cheek that had an extremely bright handprint on it. And he had to deal with the looks and snickers that were thrown at him by his classmates.

Even if no one saw what transpired, it was obvious that he had been slapped by someone.

Hearing Juin's mumble, Lucifer laughed and said, "I'm surprised she did not throw you over her shoulder. You should count your blessings that she only gave you a slap and a silent treatment. If she were my Izzy, you'd have been afflicted with boils and painful and lasting punishments for at least a week. To think that a wimp like you actually dare to steal a kiss from a maiden… What has the world become?"

He folded his arms and looked down at Juin, who was standing in front of him, with an amused grin. "Why did you suddenly do it?"

Juin thought for a while and sighed. He shrugged helplessly as he said, "I was just... I thought I might not have any more chances after this. I have seen her with Thomas, so I know that her heart is with him and that she only sees me as a friend, but still… I wanted her to know that I see her more than just a friend. Even if I don't… make it, I still want her to know."

"What, is she like your first love?" Lucifer teased. When Juin did not say anything, the demon king laughed and patted his shoulder. "Well, she knows it now… You've definitely got your message across…"

Juin glanced back at Lucifer before sighing. "Hey, at least I tried. If this were before, I wouldn't even say anything…"

"Well, should I applaud for you then?" Lucifer mocked as he pretended to clap his hands. "And there are people looking at us…"

Juin quickly glanced around and saw some of the younger kids looking over at him with weird expressions, so he immediately turned around and mumbled, "Ssh, stop talking with me. I don't want people to think that Wesley has weird friends…"

Right when he mentioned the boy's name, Wesley strolled out of his school with two of his friends, talking and chatting about something that only they knew. When Wesley saw Juin, he immediately said goodbye to his friends before jogging to Juin.

"Hey… Did you wait long?"

"No…"

"Damn, I thought I can make you wait longer…" Wesley joked as they started to walk in the direction of the bus stop.

"Wes, you're not a girl… If I have to wait more than 5 minutes, you are eating dinner at home," Juin retorted with a blank expression.

Hearing him, Wesley air-flipped his short brown hair in a dramatic manner as he joked, "Well, one can dream…"

He hadn't told Wesley about the adoption matter yet since Wesley had an exam in the last couple of days, and he did not want to distract Wesley from his studies. Today was the last day of his exam, so Juin decided to break it to him today, gently… perhaps over a nice dinner with a milkshake.

"I thought we are going to Barney's?" Wesley said.

"Yeah, but we can go somewhere else if you want," Juin said as he flagged down the bus that was heading to town.

"Nah, let's stick to Barney's. I love the avocado milkshake there."

Chuckling, Juin said, "Can't you be like other 11-year-old boy and drink chocolate milkshake?"

"What am I? A sheep?" Wesley scoffed, "Why do I need to do whatever other kids are doing or drinking?"

The whole journey, the two kept joking and teasing each other like, almost as if they were really biological brothers instead of two orphans with very different backgrounds.

When they got to the restaurants, Juin told Wesley to order whatever he wanted. "Don't worry about the price. I helped Max's dad out with some of his paperwork when I was stuck at home, so he gave me some money as payment."

"Neat!" Wesley quickly looked through the menu and ordered a double cheeseburger with extra mayo and an avocado milkshake, which was his standard combo. Once the waitress took their menu, he looked at Juin and asked in a teasing manner, "So, Max… Still nothing between you two?"

Juin blushed and subconsciously touched his cheek. "Erm, nothing."

"Damn, I thought she'd give you a chance now that you are manlier…" Wesley reached over and patted Juin on the shoulder. "One day, when you are bigger than Thomas, she might love you. I heard that teenage girls like them big."

"I don't think so," Juin said with a wry smile, "And I don't think size matters to her."

When he saw Wesley was about to say something with a mischievous grin on his face, Juin knew what he was about to say, so he quickly added, "And no, not THAT size! And FYI, I'm not only undergoing a vertical growth spurt."

"Eww…" Wesley made a face and said, "I don't need to know that."

"You are the one who brought it up!" Juin scoffed.

Wesley grinned and gave up on this conversation. He then asked, "So, why are you suddenly so generous to me, bringing me out for such a fancy dinner?"

"I've always been generous to you," Juin said with a frown. "And this is not that fancy…"

"True…" Wesley nodded. "But you rarely take me anywhere alone…"

"Erm…" Juin scratched the side of his neck and grinned uncomfortably as he said, "Let's talk after your dinner arrives…"

Wesley raised an eyebrow. He felt curious, but he decided not to push it since he did not think that it would be anything important. After all, he was only 11. What kind of important matter could a 16-year-old boy tell a 11-year-old? They were unrelated orphans, and even if they were related, it wasn't like Juin could tell him about their parents' divorce.

The only major thing that could happen in their lives at this moment was an adoption.

"An adoption?" Wesley thought when the word popped up in his mind suddenly, and his eyes bulged a little.

"Wait!" Wesley gasped when he remembered the man who came over to their house a while back. Placing his hands down on the table, he asked, "Are you getting adopted?"

Knowing that he was busted, Juin nodded slowly. He then quickly added, "But I'm not leaving yet, not immediately. We still have some days to spend together."

"Oh…" Wesley's happy expression from earlier had all but disappeared as he looked down at the plate of burger and fries that the waitress had just put in front of him. "Is it the silver-haired man?"

"Yeah…" Juin replied in a soft voice.

"But he's not a good man…" Wesley said, more out of sadness than the truth.

"Probably, but it's for the best…"

Wesley looked up at Juin and said, "I'll miss you…"

"I'll miss you too…" Juin said with a slightly choked voice. To him, Wesley was more than a roommate. He was like his younger brother… But it was because of that that Juin must leave with President Presley. He did not want Wesley to get embroiled in the supernatural world.

With a smile, Juin said, "I'll come back to visit you whenever I can, and we can talk on the phones…"

"It's not the same…" Wesley said with a low sigh.

They then ate their meals in silence. And even though Wesley was eating his favorite food, he felt as if everything tasted bland tonight.

Looking at him, Juin could not help but sigh a little. Knowing that this might be the outcome, he had wanted to leave the bad news until the end of dinner, so that Wesley could at least enjoy his dinner happily. But now, Wesley looked as if he were being forced to eat his last meal before being executed.

With a heavy expression, Juin looked out the window and could only see the cars that were parked outside the restaurant. Occasionally, he would see the bright lights from the newly arrived cars.

This popular fast-food restaurant was a few kilometers before the town and was basically in the middle of nowhere. It was Wesley's favorite restaurant since this was the place he first met Mrs. Martin, so whenever there was a special occasion, he would ask to come here.

"Perhaps I should have suggested another place…" Juin thought as he took a bite of his quarter pounder burger. He felt sorry for ruining the nice memories that Wesley had here with this piece of news.

When they finally finished their meals, Wesley immediately said that he wanted to go home. Juin knew that the boy was upset, so he agreed. After making payment, they went to the empty bus stop a few meters away from the restaurant.

While they were waiting for the next bus, Wesley suddenly looked at Juin and said in a soft voice, "I don't want you to go…"
