Luca shrugged and a pained expression flashed through his mind as the memory of waking up to his parents torn to death haunted him again. The "air" around him started to tremble, showing visible wave-like movement, until he felt a warm hand on his shoulder.

Looking up, he saw that Lann was watching him with a worried expression, so he quickly said, "Don't worry, Master… I know what to do."

"He's not your enemy, Luca," Lann said with a smile. "He's just an innocent kid who was dragged into our world by accident."

"Is there really such a thing as an innocent kid, Master?" Luca asked, not really wanting an answer. He then sighed and said, "Let's go find a seat, Master. I want to rest a while before the next battle."

But Lann knew the truth. Luca wanted to watch Juin's fight. Otherwise, based on her student's habits, he would have preferred to meditate in between matches so as to replenish his soul power to the max, even if he had only expended 0.01% of his soul power reserve.

It took them about 30 minutes to fix the battle stage as best as they could and to get the two unconscious participants out of the battle stage for treatment. But once they were done, the judge made an announcement, telling the next participants to gather at the battle stage.

"That's us…" Tucker said before getting up. "Let's go win us some lunch money…"

As they walked down from their seats, Juin thought wryly to himself, "What's the glory of winning against a kid?"

When Juin, Tucker, and Cyrus went to get up the stage, they were stopped by a guard.

"I'm sorry, but one person only," the guard said with a strict extension as he held his right hand up, palm facing the trio. "That's the rule."

"He's my pet," Juin said as a matter-of-fact, putting an arm around Cyrus' shoulders. "Please check your rule again. Pet is considered as part of their owner… And this is my teacher. He will be watching from the side."

Cyrus nodded. He then leaned forward and patted the guard's shoulder, much to the amus.e.m.e.nt of the other guard who was at the entrance as well, and added, "Besides, only one of us would be fighting, so don't worry about it."

The guard that stopped them looked back at his teammate, and after getting a confirmation that there was such a rule, he stepped aside and allowed those two to get onto the battle stage.

When Juin got in, he noticed something else. Next to each of the four entrances, and underneath all the seats, were an enclosed seating area.

"Oh, so those are the seats for the teachers… I was wondering where they were during the battle," Juin said as he looked at the seats. He could feel slight auras coming from all four seats and knew that it was somewhat similar to the protective dome ward.

"The ward for those seats is different, in case you are wondering," Tucker said nonchalantly. "As you know now, no one is allowed to interfere in the battles, and this rule applies to the teachers who accompany their students into the battle stage as well. The difference between the ward for those seats and those for the normal spectators is that, it is somewhat like a two-way mirror."

"You mean that the ward doesn't block vision?" Juin said.

"Wait… What do you mean by two-way mirror? Does it mean that the participants can't see the people from outside the protective dome?" he asked as he and Cyrus went up to one side of the battle stage.

Watching Juin warming up from the side, Tucker then explained, "Once activated, the protective dome allows viewers from the outside to see what's happening in the inside, but at the same time, it blocks those from the inside from seeing what's happening in the outside. This is to prevent distraction… As well as to prevent threats."

"Threats?" Juin stopped stretching for a moment as he looked at his teacher with a curious glance.

"As you can tell, gambling is quite huge during this kind of event. Well, any event actually! And sometimes, to win, some people would not hesitate to threaten the family of the participants, bringing them up close to the dome to silently threaten the participant into losing…" Tucker shrugged. "It's the same on Earth as well. This kind of behavior is universal, and you will soon learn it."

Juin looked up at the spectators sitting at the seats high above and wondered if they weren't from the Order, and if they were normal Arconis citizens, would he be seeing people with terrified expressions sitting up there, with perhaps a knife placed across their throats?

"Oh, that's your opponent!" Cyrus suddenly said, taking Juin's mind off his thoughts.

When Juin turned over to look at his opponent, he could not help but sigh deeply again. His opponent was just a scrawny little boy; one that looked well fed, but still half his size. With his blonde hair parted at the side neatly and his clothes pressed, the boy looked like he belonged in the library instead of on this battle stage.

"Please surrender…" Juin mouthed to the kid, but the response he got was a stuck out tongue.

"Come on!" Juin g.r.o.a.n.e.d as he turned to Tucker, hoping that the guy could help him, but all Tucker did was to stuck his tongue out at him like a little kid as well.

"I need a better team…" Juin muttered to himself as he massaged his glabella.

"Participants, please get ready! We will begin in 1 minute!" announced the judge.

Juin looked around, and he soon saw the judge by the entrance. It looked like the guy had no intention of coming into the battle stage.

"It's not unheard of for judges to accidentally be killed during a battle. I'd be more surprised if he decided to stay within the dome, especially after the last battle," Tucker said with a smirk. "Anyway, focus and ignore everything else."
