“I ask that you pardon my sudden impoliteness. I came here because I have something I want to ask of Ciel.”

“To me?”

After saying that, Greta looked at Alex in a daze. The Marchioness stood up after becoming aware of something, knowing something, and extending her apologies to Alex.

“Your Highness. With all due respect, my wife said she only had something to say to Princess Valentine.”

“Are you implying that it is inappropriate for you to say that in front of me?”

Alex’s eyes flashed with a sign of hostility. I can understand why he wouldn’t want to leave me alone with a potentially dangerous person after the commotion that occurred earlier, but it is much too terrifying to look at it from that perspective.

The patient’s body was thoroughly examined, and it became clear that she was not carrying any weapons, her physical stamina was at an all-time low, making it impossible for her to move, and I felt not the slightest hint of magic power in her.

There was something strange about the people on the other side, who were defenceless against me no matter which way I turned. I went up to Alex and begged for his pardon.

“Your Highness, would you kindly wait a little while outside the door?”

I can use magic if I have to. Alex ordered Meryl to bring my Lævateinn.

“You have to call me first if something happens.”

“Of course. If not Your Highness, then who is going to protect me?

After reassuring Alex and sending him out with the Marquis, we’re finally alone. You’ve made me suffer this much, so if you don’t talk about it, I’ll scold you.

“So tell me now. What are you going to say to me?”

“I know who you are.”

“Pardon?”

I don’t know what she is talking about. A sudden threat? Greta asked me once more, this time with tears in her eyes, and I found myself wondering if I had anything to say.

“Do you know where Seoul is?”

“Seoul?”

How do you know Seoul? It’s the capital city of South Korea. What did this person just say?

“Do you know where Seoul is?”

“I knew this would happen.”

I was speechless at her desperate words. No matter where I look, Greta, the person in this world, suddenly opens her mouth, saying Seoul.

“Ciel Valentine’s relationship with the male lead is different from the original storyline.”

It was as if someone had punched me in the head. The moment she noticed that I was about to speak in front of her, Greta let out a long sigh.

I don’t believe there was anyone else besides me who knew the contents of the original story. I was wondering if Alex’s mother’s presence alone was a dimension shift or not, but then a third suspicious person appeared unexpectedly.

Greta’s eyes were filled with anguish as she slowly opened her mouth while I stood there looking bewildered in front of her.

* * *

Greta Baldr. Her name before marriage was Greta Mayer. Born the third daughter of Count Mayer, she had memories of her previous life.

In her previous life, she was an ordinary high school student from South Korea. She reincarnated as a newborn baby, knowing that she met her death in an accident.

At first, not even realising that this is the world of a novel, she quickly adapts to her new life. Unlike her complicated life in Korea, her life as a noble lady was quite rewarding.

Lady Greta, who was loved and raised by them, also got married before she knew it. It was her father, Count Mayer, who arranged her marriage to the second son of Count Baldr.

Her husband had a character that was untypical of an aristocrat because he was steady and down-to-earth. He only wanted to make a happy home with his wife after severing ties with his avaricious older sibling early on.

The transition into the new life was fraught with joy. She did not despise her husband, whom she had met through her involvement in politics, possibly because she had become accustomed to the life she led in her reincarnation as a noblewoman. The unexpected death upended everything just as she was beginning to adjust to the new normal of her awkward marriage.

“When my great-grandfather died, he insisted that the title be passed to my husband.”

Greta’s expression when she confessed her situation seemed much more comfortable. Unlike me, who was possessed ten years ago, Greta, who was reborn in this world, could no longer remember her original name properly.

The only thing left in her mind is that she was a teenage high school student living in Seoul.

“I don’t remember how many members of her family I had, how many friends I had, or anything else about myself.”

Then, all of a sudden, memories from her previous life resurfaced in her consciousness. Things like the bustling Yeouido, Namsan Tower, and the golden scenery of the Han River are seen from Line 2.

The storyline of the book was another one of those irrelevant recollections that popped into her mind. As time went by, the things in the novel became reality, and anxiety came to the fore.

“Did the previous Marquis Baldr have no children?”

“There was, but I know he wasn’t his son.”

This one. His wife had an affair. Since the son who was supposed to inherit the title was actually someone else’s child, it seemed that the Baldr family brought in their second son, who had given up the title early and forced him to become a marquis.

“I didn’t even know at first. But then I remembered. An aristocratic woman from the countryside collapsed after drinking the poisoned juice. Do you remember this line?”

I think I’ve heard of it somewhere. I searched hard for my memory.

“A tea party at the Crown Prince’s Palace.”

“Yes. It was the first tea party hosted by His Highness since his return to the imperial palace.”

Clearly, there was something like that. At a tea party held at the Imperial Palace, the Marchioness died. Investigating this unfortunate incident, Clara shows off her knowledge of poison.

Of course, the culprit was Princess Lotte. She had his first wife murdered in order to marry Marquis Baldr, who had just arrived in the capital at the time, to a woman from her side of the family.

However, thanks to Clara’s competence, the culprit was caught. Fortunately, she did not find out that she was behind it, but after that incident, Princess Lotte came to regard Clara’s existence as a thorn in her eye.

So, it’s going to play a pretty important role, Wait a minute. Hopefully, if so.

“Then you, the Marchioness Baldr, were killed at that tea party!”

“Yes, you got that right.”

Now I understand what you mean. One day she suddenly became Marchioness, and she had been trembling with fear all along. What a surprise it must have been for her to get an invitation to a tea party from me.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the sender’s name with my own eyes, but I quickly realised there was something wrong.”

“That’s……”

Looking at her straight in the eyes, I couldn’t bear to say the next word. The other side knew everything about the original, so they must have noticed that something had changed.

Clara Valentine, who should have been persecuted, was loved by her family, and next to Alex, there’s me, who hasn’t even made my social debut.

“At first, I didn’t even know. If it was because of your older sister or your brothers? In the meantime, I met the mother of the princess and got to know her. Ciel, you are the reason why the story has altered.”

Greta’s eyes, which had looked weak earlier, shone. I held my breath and looked out the door. Luckily, the sound didn’t escape, but it was still too dangerous here.

I put my index finger to my lips to be quiet and shook my head.

“I see what you mean, but hold on a second.”

“I am!”

“Do you want to live, too?”

Just as Greta is desperate, so am I. We all chose this path because we wanted to survive.

At first, she thought it was a coincidence. When I found out that Alex’s mother was a cross-dimensional person, I tried to think it was just my imagination.

But I realised it after this happened. Unlike me, who possesses Ciel and remembers most of its contents, Greta, who was reborn in this world, lived by forgetting most of her memories of her previous life. Her aspect is different, but this cannot be just a coincidence.

There must be something. I seriously pondered the difference between the two of us. Unlike me, who had fully adapted to Ciel’s body, Greta seemed befuddled because of unclear memories of her previous life.

Unlike me, who knows everything, Greta feels great fear at the fact that she is being murdered unjustly.

I shook my head for a moment to be quiet, but Greta nodded her head and lowered her voice. I looked around and spoke to her.

“I knew there would be a murderous plot at the party tomorrow.”

“That’s exactly right!”

“That’s true. I’m not going to let you die.”

If someone dies in Alex’s palace, then it really all ends. I will be forcibly returned home, and Alex will incur the resentment of Marquis Baldr for failing to keep his palace under control.

If Princess Lotte suggests that the bereaved Marquis remarry, the story will turn even more unfavourable for Alex.

What should I do with fate, which is attempting to follow the flow of the original storyline? The only way to get out of this crisis is to save Marquis Baldr’s wife.

“Do not worry. We have powerful allies.”

“If you are an ally…… No way?”

Any poison can be solved with Clara.  I mentioned the poison problem to my sister multiple times in order to prepare for this situation.

“Do you remember what the name of the poison was that you ate and died from?”

“Loenthal, it must have been Loenthal.”

I knew it would be like this. Originally, it was a poison that the princess liked to use. Thanks to that, I was proud of being better prepared than anyone else for Loenthal poison.

“Ciel, are you okay?”

Alex knocked on the door. I didn’t have time to talk any longer, as he seemed annoyed at the lengthy story without me saying anything.

“I’ll hear the details after the party.”

“But!”

“Trust me. I will protect you.”

I patted Greta on the shoulder and cheered her emotionally. It seemed that she now knew what kind of scheme Princess Lotte had devised.

That is the reason. Because a crisis may be an opportunity, I opted to smile and plan what would happen.v
