The library was a large wooden building with rows of bookshelves. There were a few people and the librarian, an old man with a hunched stature. Add paid 20 copper coins for browsing the books. In this time where mass scale printing methods had not been invented, all books were written by hand, and were hence quite costly. As such, very few people were able to buy books, and most of them came to the library to read books paying a small fee. Add looked through the various sections and pulled out a book om the world's history. He sat down on an empty bench and began reading.

This world as he knew it, was called Iseria. There was a rough map drawn in the book and by the scale of it, Add estimated that this world was at least 10 times bigger than Earth. The landmass was divided into 9 continents, namely Midgard the land of the humans, Álfheim the land of the High Elves, Svartálfaheim, the land of the Dwarven, Vanaheim, the land of the fairies and Angels and Peace loving gods. Asgard, the land of the Warrior Gods, Jotunheim, the land of the Giants, Nilfheim a land of ice and snow, home to the snow tribes, Muspelheim, a land of fire and lava, home to the demons, and Hel, the Land of the undead and the cursed. The continents were separated by vast oceans which would make the ancient Panthalassa super ocean no more than a lake. There were also countless Islands, varying in size, from some which were no bigger than a few hundred metres to some which were as big as Russia on earth.

Reading more he found that the history of this world as very similar to the Norse mythology back on earth. And according to the book, a huge war had taken place eons ago which nearly destroyed the world. It broke apart the landmass which were then a single super continent, forming the various continents seen today , the survivors of the war are what can be seen today. Add wondered if somehow the Norse Mythology back on Earth had anything to do with this world.

Iseria had countless races, of them the most prominent were the Elves, Dwarves, Demons, Humans, Fairies and Werebeasts. Other legendary races like the Dragons and Gods also existed, however they tend to stay in distant reaches and wildernesses where no mortals can reach.

Add next took a book which had the history of the human race in it. According to the book, humans along with many other races like the Werebeasts, came into existence millions of years ago, however, they were among the weakest of the races among that time, and lived in constant danger and fear of the monsters and other races. Then, about 5000 years ago, 12 knights emerged from the Human race. They were the strongest of the humans and they led the entire race into unifying the continent of Midgard and today almost half of the continent is rules by the Human race.

These 12 knights all established a kingdom each which are now known as 'The 12 Empires of Humanity". There names being, Argarnsen, Laggard, Solia, Rigas, Kanelos, Mellistania, Heldervlam, Schmerlit, Krijger, Kreigsman, Feonigin, and Reingleif. These 12 empires are ruled by the descendants of the 12 knights. Although the 12 empires act as a whole when faced with threats from other races, but they kept fighting internally. Reingleif, the empire Add was in, was the smallest of the 12, however it was by no means weak. It had managed to defend its borders successfully for the last 200 years.

The Midgard continent was nearly elliptical in shape. With more than half of it covered by forests, desserts, snowy mountains and many other landforms. Reingleif was located on the eastern side of it, surrounded by the ocean in the east, by a huge forest called Waldesten in the north, in the south the empire of Solia and in the west by the empire of Krijger. Rigel, was one of the border towns which was on the outskirts of the great forest of Waldesten. It was tens of thousands of kilometres wide, and till today humans had only been able to explore a tiny fraction of it. Many other races like the Elves, Were beasts, Dwarves etc. Resided in the wildernesses of Midgard. They had poor relations with humans, as humans tend to attack them and make them slaves.

The Elves were deeply rooted with nature, living mostly in forests in harmony with nature. They had very long life spans reaching well beyond thousands of years and were very proficient in magic. Dwarves were masters of mining and forging. The weapons and armour crafted by the dwarves were famous across the lands. Werebeasts were like humans except the fact that they had animal like features such as animal years, tails, fur etc. They boasted high physical strength and combat abilities. Demons were another major race, which consisted of many types of creatures like vampires, werewolves, succubi, and many more. These creatures were very proficient in dark magic, and were very strong as well, known for their bloodthirsty and violent natures. As for the other races like Dragons, Fairies, Gods, Angels, not much information was available about them, as they were barely seen or heard of.

After gaining a basic understanding of his world, Add began looking at the thing which had most intrigued him most ever since he reincarnated. Magic. In this world magic existed, a strange power which was beyond the laws of science, seemingly making the impossible, possible. Mana, was a mysterious energy found in nature, which was the fuel for magic. It was everywhere, in the air, in water, in the ground, in plants, animals and even in humans. People who could manipulate mana, could use it to cast spells, which were the manifestations of imagination and knowledge.

Spells were incantations which were mostly words spoken to give form to magic. Some common examples were [Fireball] which formed a ball of fire, [Heal] which could cure wounds etc. Almost anything could be done with magic, people could fight, fly, make water, light a fire, protect themselves and much more. As a result the need for science has become basically non existent and the society had stagnated in a feudal-middle age era.

Of course not all people could use magic. Around 10 in a thousand had enough mana in them to be able to use it. And among those 10, only one could become a Mage. A Mage had a very high innate capacity for mana. They could cast powerful spells and were a very strong force. The ones who had mana, but not enough to be a mage, could still train and use it to strengthen their bodies and become strong warriors.

Next, Add looked at the books on creatures called Monsters and Magical beasts. The monsters were a race of animal like creatures which were generally large in size and possessed tremendous strength. There were a huge variety of them, from large versions of animals to fantastical creatures like goblins, orcs, kobolds, werewolves etc. Magical beasts on the other hand were monsters which had gained access to mana and could use some form of magic. They were much more dangerous than normal monsters, since they could use magic and were more intelligent than them. Some high ranked monsters even gained sentience. Some mighty Magical beasts could even take humanoid form.

After spending a few hours in the Library reading, the system suddenly issued a prompt.

[Ding! Quest : Gather Information completed!]

[Received 200 Exp. And 100 CP]

He looked at his status and saw that he had 680 CP, he sighed looking at the pitiful amount of CP, which was not enough to buy anything of use. Since the quest had been completed and Add also felt that he had got enough knowledge for now. Anyway, the library in Rigel was quite small and didn't have books which had detailed information. Add decided, to visit more libraries in bigger cities when he went there. He had spent, most of the money earned so he went to the Guild for a new quest. He went to the request board and searched around. F rank quests were mostly small jobs like herb gathering, labour jobs etc. Which were low paying. So add once again looked for E rank quests. These generally included, hunting weaker monsters, collecting materials from places, dangerous for normal people etc.

"Hmm?"

His eyes fell on another Goblin subjugation quest. It was similar to the one he had taken the other day and needed him to kill 20 goblins and also collect any relevant information about their activities if possible. Add quickly took it and went to a receptionist. It was quite profitable and also a good way to earn Exp. and CP.

After accepting the quest Add headed back to the forest. It was still the same as yesterday. Add avoided the area which he had been to the previous day, as the goblins would be alert there, so he went in a different direction and began searching for goblins. Strangely, although he found goblin tracks, but, even after searching for almost an hour, he didn't spot a single goblin.

So he decided to go in deeper into the forest. And soon he found a group of five goblins. Add slowly approached them readied his knife, he attacked his prey. As a level 5, dealing with these goblins would be very easy for him.

However, there is a saying which goes, "Man makes plans, and the heavens laugh".....
