It would even give Justin nightmares to this very day, and it was one of the reasons why he didn't really like sleeping.

He would get nightmares of Ava's dead body (which he had imagined it) screaming at the top of her lungs, calling him a 'traitor' a 'liar' and various other nicknames.

If Justin could turn back in time and save his sister, he would.

Ava was the only living relative he had that was alive, and the both of them would always stick for each other.

Or at least Ava would.

Although Justin was older, Ava was always more mature and responsible than him.

Justin was the one who had the brawns, while Ava was the one who had the brains.

Justin wondered if Ava was still alive perhaps, by some miracle, since he had never actually seen her body, but he would often shrug the idea off, not wanting to let himself cling onto that hope.

The hope he had that Ava was still alive and that he didn't kill her.

But, Justin knew, that day he left Ava, he had killed her, physically and mentally.

Justin had gone through a variety of things in his life, backstabbing (both metaphorically and physically), gruesome fights, and even getting kidnapped.

There was no end to things he had gotten himself involved in.

But the one thing he regretted not getting himself involved in was saving his sister.

It was the least he could've done for her after everything she had done to him, and for that, he would always regret the decision he made on that day.

It was his biggest mistake that would come back to haunt him in his nightmares when he tried to sleep.

Justin, whether he liked it or not, would have to remember the last moments he had with his sister.

Running away from her and the street thugs, when he should've just stayed with her and protected her.

Justin had kept repeating it in his mind as if those words were a broken record. They played endlessly over and over again.

And so did Ava's screams on that fateful day. He could vividly remember her screams as he ran away.

Tears filled up his eyes as he ran away, trying to reassure himself that it was all going to be okay.

That somehow-that by some miracle, he and his sister Ava would make it through all of this, alive and together.

Justin had tried to pull himself together and tried to go back to the alleyway, in hopes of seeing Ava, alive.

That was Justin's first encounter in life and his most painful one by far. He learnt to be stronger so that he could protect his loved ones next time.

So Justin being a bodyguard actually made sense, it was because he wanted to protect people, though not necessarily the ones he loved anymore.

Justin now protected people because he was paid to do so, and who was he to deny a well-paying job?

All Justin had to do was stay alert, and in case of any assassination attempts, he would simply knock the person out, and make sure that they would never appear again.

At least this way he could fulfil the promises he had made to himself, in a way he was still protecting people.

Lady Melissa had found out about Justin's background prior to before she had hired him, she had asked her friend to give her his file.

Which contained his background, his family, and his previous masters and other jobs he had before he eventually became and chose his career to be a bodyguard.

Lady Melisssa's heart softened a bit when she had heard of everything Justin had to go through as a child.

A child who was ten years old, who didn't know what life was about, but at the same time, it was life.

Life could be cruel and unfair, especially for young children who were living in the streets, stealing food or money so they could make it through the day.

Justin had never stolen for fun, it was for his survival, he knew that stealing was wrong but he needed it.

He needed money so both his sister and him could make it through the day, and it wasn't the first time they had been caught.

But it was his first time leaving his sister, all so he could escape, and run away, with nightmares haunting him every now and then.

It was a tragic story, but Justin learnt something when his sister was brutally murdered by street thugs, that he needed to get stronger.

He kept telling himself to get stronger so that the same tragic incident didn't happen once more, and because of that, he did end up getting stronger.

Lady Melissa's mind trailed off to the hunting event, suddenly remembering that her swordsmanship teacher, Duchess Ella, would attend it too.

As part of the King's guard, even though she didn't work for the royal palace anymore, sometimes the King would call on her to guard him in case of any assassination attempts.

Of course, she would be paid a very generous amount for her services, and the King never regretted spending that generous amount on her.

This time, the King would temporarily hire Duchess Ella until the end of the hunting event, and she would attend the event.

In fact, Duchess Ella would be standing right beside the King, while the rest of the nobles would be eating.

'How could I have forgotten such an important detail?'

Lady Melissa thought, as her teacher, Duchess Ella was a very good bodyguard and was alert at even the slightest movements.

Then again, Lady Melissa had been getting better with her swordsmanship skills these days, and she had managed to hit Duchess Ella numerous times during duels, without her noticing until the very last second.

Maybe Lady Melissa would be skilful enough to hand the note to Duke Alphonso if she was careful enough.

However, she wasn't exactly sure about Duke Alphonso's skills, and she wasn't even sure if he practised swordsmanship.
