Chapter 43: Where Did You Learn Medicine?

The smile on Mo Zhu’s face immediately faded as he stared at Yun Ruoyue in total surprise and asked, “Are you really the princess consort?”. His heart beat nervously as he waited for her answer.

“Why not save your breath and take more rest instead, so that your body can recover faster.” Yun Ruoyue sensed his change of expression, thus, she tried not to talk about it, and maybe it’s a good way to avoid trouble.

Mo Zhu’s bottom lip jutted out, his eyes were wet and there was sadness in his voice, “Didn’t you say to me, you were a doctor that was sent here by Prince Li to tend to my injury?”

He was absolutely heartbroken. It was not easy for him to find a suitable beautiful lady and eventually she turned out to be a married woman, and what’s more, she was also his master’s woman!

This is embarrassing! Where am I going to hide my face? Mo Zhu sighed inwardly.

Mo Li acted out quickly to intervene in the awkwardness of the atmosphere, “Let me explain to you. During that time, we didn’t know that the princess consort was proficient in medicine, therefore, she secretly came here and gave you medical treatment.”

After hearing Mo Li’s words, Mo Zhu immediately cupped his fist and bowed as he apologetically said, “Princess Consort, please accept this subordinate’s endless gratitude for saving my life. I’m ashamed that I didn’t have the chance to repay your kindness.” His disappointment, it could be heard from his voice.

Chu Xuanchen’s was silent, but the crease between his eyebrows remained. He simply glanced at Yun Ruoyue and then asked, “Did she help you to remove the arrowhead? How did she do it?”

Mo Zhu respectfully replied without delay, “Princess Consort began the treatment by giving me an anesthetic injection to numb my leg, and then she used a scalpel to cut away the infected and dead tissues from the wound. The arrowhead was found and taken out by using forceps, after that the princess consort helped this subordinate to clean and stitch, applied the antibiotic cream and bandaged my leg with gauze. And lastly, she fed these subordinate two tablets of medicine.”

Right this moment, Imperial Physician Wang who stood silently at the side suddenly interrupted, “How does a woman like princess consort know a thing about medicine? I had the same thought about cutting away the infected wound tissue and I could forcefully pull out the arrowhead too, however, I chose not to do it because I’m afraid Mo Zhu couldn’t withstand the pain. Besides, by doing so not just could damage the blood vessel but also would result in excessive bleeding. Of course, this old physician absolutely wouldn’t want to take a chance on my patient. Yet, the princess consort is audaciously bold to make such a reckless decision by using the patient’s life as a bet. In this case, I’ll say, she is just merely lucky. It’s lucky that she didn’t puncture Mo Zhu’s blood vessel and lead to massive hemorrhage, otherwise his life is done.”

In summary, the Imperial Physician Wang was indicating that it was the princess consort who took a chance in saving Mo Zhu and she did save him merely by her luck.

Obviously, the Imperial Physician Wang was deliberately finding fault with her, however, Yun Ruoyue was unfazed by his criticism; she just simply glanced at him in a cool manner.

She definitely won’t tell him that she had a place in her time space medical facility to store blood supplies which are ready with different types of blood that could be used for emergency blood transfusion.

Besides, she was an experienced surgeon as long as she didn’t rupture the blood vein then the hemorrhage can be avoided.

These facts will never be known by the imperial physician.

Mo Zhu’s face twisted. “No matter what you said, it is already a fact that the princess consort had saved my life. In my personal standpoint, I still think the princess consort is more skillful than you and even more courageous than you.”

When he thinks back on that time, he remembered his elder brother had approached the imperial physician and proposed to the physician to pull out the arrowhead. The Imperial physician refused because it was risky and could lead to his death. When he is dead, this case would make up a bad track record in the imperial physician’s medical performance. Therefore, the imperial physician rather gave acupuncture and concoction in order to drag the time to let him die slowly on his own.

In other words, his death was not directly caused by the imperial physician’s misjudgment nor making an error in not conforming to a high medical standard.

Hearing this, Imperial Physician Wang’s face flushed red in anger, he swiftly picked up his medical box, walked toward the prince and bowed with deference, “Prince Li, this humble official is incompetent and can’t treat the patient, please forgive me if I’m being rude and this humble official shall take his leave.”

As soon as he spoke, he turned around and immediately left the scene in his scrunched up face, stepping out of the room together with his medical assistance following behind him.

Since the Imperial Physician Wang arrived in the room and until he left, the prince didn’t say a thing to him nor spare a single glance at him.

At the present moment, Chu Xuanchen started believing that Yun Ruoyue was Mo Zhu’s life saviour. (Please read original translations from cloudmanor.wordpress.com)

After a short moment of thought, Chu Xuanchen peered at her with suspicion. “Where did you learn medicine?”

Yun Ruoyue glanced at him with no expression on her face. She said casually, “When I was young, it was my mother who sought help from a Grand master to accept me as her disciple, and additionally taught me about medicine and injuries treatment. That’s how I learned my field of medicine. Even though I only learned a bit, I still could understand one or two basic medical treatments.”

Chu Xuanchen snorted, “By you? You could understand one or two little tricks? I would consider you were lucky and got away this time, and next time, you might not be that lucky. Since you have saved Mo Zhu, hence, you should take care of him to recuperate. From today onwards, you are responsible for him. If you did your job well, I may pardon you for the fault of having offended the Madame. If you don’t, be prepared for more punishment awaiting you.”
