Chapter 44: Princess Consort To Play A Vital Role

“Okay, I’ll take it but I’ve suffered a bad injury,” she said evenly, “I have to go back to my courtyard and treat my wounds first.” Yun Ruoyue began to negotiate an agreement on her own terms.

The reason why she saved Mo Zhu in the first place was because she couldn’t bring herself to see a dying person without saving him.

And secondly, in some measure, she wanted to let Chu Xuanchen know that she was someone important and notable too.

Right now, she has a desire to become a worthy person, who could play a vital role in the Prince Li Manor. When she boosts her abilities and prowess in medicine, eventually people will either fear her or at least respect her power.

She knew very well that Chu Xuanchen is the master; the main backbone of the house, thus, she must start it from him by changing his personal perspective on the situation, to make him think differently about her.

Once he changed his attitude and treated her differently, the others would instinctively regard her importance in the house. Therefore, they would not dare to bully her anymore.

When Chu Xuanchen heard Yun Ruoyue’s request, surprisingly he didn’t show any displeasure on his face.

In fact, he gave way to her this time; in consideration she had saved Mo Zhu’s life. Immediately, he ordered in his composed voice, “Someone, send princess consort back to her courtyard to rest.”

Yun Ruoyue instantly lifted an eyebrow. “How about my meals? Feng’er and I have been eating cold and dry mantou for many days. What are you going to do about it?” she inquired, looking at Chu Xuanchen’s face for an answer.

“What do you want to do then?” Chu Xuanchen took a step closer and his deep set eyes flashed a cold light.

Let this prince get this straight, she is the daughter of his arch nemesis, and by feeding her cold mantou is considered a luxurious treatment to her.

And now, she even dared to expect this prince to give her more?

“Well, I’m badly wounded and my body needs nourishment to recover. Not to mention, I am also the princess consort of the manor, wouldn’t that be inappropriate when the meals offered to this princess were not even near to a concubine? Moreover, Concubine Nangong has a small kitchen in her own courtyard,” she paused and checked on his expression before she continued, “Mn, you should see for yourself and decide what you deem appropriate, if my injuries would heal faster, similarly, Mo Zhu’s wound would naturally heal faster as well.” There was a smug look flickered across her eyes.

She understood well that Mo Zhu became like this because he had sacrificed his life and taken the arrow for the prince.

The prince had responsibilities as he felt guilty enough toward his subordinate’s injuries; therefore, Chu Xuanchen wanted Mo Zhu to get back into his health more than anyone else.

Hence, she was certain that the prince would find a way to fulfil her demands the best he could.

Chu Xuanchen’s gaze turned even cold as he stared at her.

Why does this prince feel she has gotten better and sharp-witted?

Even so, nothing is going to change this prince’s mind that her face is still irksome to look at.

He simply glanced at Mo Li. “Mo Li, go get a few maidservants attend to the princess consort and arrange other servants to set up the kitchen in the courtyard as well,” and then his gaze shifted back to Yun Ruoyue and chastised her in stern voice, “If you don’t cured him well, you have to answer for it!”

After giving out his command, he turned around and stepped out of the room as his proud and aloof back fading into the distance.

Yun Ruoyue pursed her lips tightly, deliberately looked away from him and turned around in the opposite direction walking towards the inner chamber to check on Mo Zhu’s wounds, while she said, “It’s time for Mo Zhu to change the dressing, please ask the people to leave the room as I need to help him to change the surgical wound dressings.”

When Mo Li heard the princess consort’s orders, he nodded affirmatively and immediately cleared out the room for her.

In a moment, only Mo Li and Feng’er were stayed behind after all of them left.

Yun Ruoyue has prepared the medicine and wound care supplies that she kept in her cloth bag earlier, so she doesn’t have to worry about being found out by Mo Li.

She began with removing the old wound dressing, checked the wound and she could see the close wound now has a scab over it, that’s a good healing sign.

Right after that, very quickly she cleaned the wound, reapplied the antibiotic ointment and then secured the wound with the new dressing.

Mo Li stayed by his brother’s side throughout the whole dressing procedure. He was elated and almost started to cry in happy tears.

Before this, he had seen his brother’s wound festering and gangrene had set in, it was a very terrifying sight, but now it had scabbed over it, indicating the wound is healing.

After seeing the princess consort skilfully change the wound dressing, he now truly believes that she has medical knowledge and knows how to cure illness.

At the same time, deep in his heart, he felt embarrassed and guilty of himself for the past misdeed that he had done to her.

Soon afterwards, when Yun Ruoyue has completed with the changing of the dressing, she also fed Mo Zhu with a few tablets of antibiotics. He was watching her during the entire period of time, his dazzling eyes looking at her with great affection, as if he was appreciating his own lover.

Mo Li sensed the changes in his brother, thus, his eyes directed at Mo Zhu with a warning look.

Even if the prince does not love the consort, she wasn’t someone that he could simply touch or should be thinking of.

“Okay, it’s done. Let him have a good rest tonight, prepare some nutritional herbal soup for him, and at the same time eat more meat and eggs to strengthen his body immunity, which would greatly help in his recovery.” Yun Ruoyue informed Mo Li.

Mo Li replied respectfully, “Thank you, Your Highness. Please allow this subordinate to send you back to the pavilion.”

This time, he was grateful for the princess consort’s kindness, hence he initiated to escort both the princess consort and Feng’er personally back to the Scarlet Moon Pavilion.

When he stepped into the Scarlet Moon Pavilion, he saw the place was cold and deserted without any maidservants. With that, he became more ashamed and guilty toward the princess consort. (Please read original translations from cloudmanor.wordpress.com)

His face reddened as he lowered his head down, he said, “Princess consort, I wish to express my thanks to you for saving my brother and I will pay my indebtedness to your kindness. Please don’t worry, this subordinate will immediately arrange workers to build the kitchen and allocate a few maidservants over here to take care of Your Highness.”
