Asher woke up refreshed but hungry. His stomach ached from pain. It had been over 3 days since he ate last. With increased stats he didn’t need to eat as often, but after burning so many calories he was starving. He pulled out a meal and began chowing down as he pulled up screens.

Still with 13 days left he guessed he was asleep for about a day, but his mind was foggy since all he did was chase a monkey for 4 days straight. There were still the 11 Earthlings alive. It looked like some aliens died since the total number of participants had dropped to 38. With that out of the way he pulled up his other screens.

“Fuck,” Asher said. Now his Massage skill was at level 13. He regretted leaving Massage on his screen now. With a groan he willed it off the screen. He would keep the skill, but there was really no reason to be able to see it. So long since his Relationship Screen had been upgraded, he forgot that skill upgrades were possible rewards. He scoured his screen to make sure there were no more skills he never used.

Congratulations

MANA SENSE (LVL 1)

Sense mana around you.

Asher realized that he had defeated a boss, so at least one of the requirements for his roleplay was met. And it wasn’t like he had role played during his Trial, but he still gained his Revenge skill. Maybe Max Level really meant that he didn’t have to Roleplay as someone else to get the skill. During the Trial he had learned Mana Sense over the years of fighting. Of course he still knew how to use it, but now the skill was recognized by the System. Eventually he would try to replicate all of the Warrior skills he had learned.

Asher left that thought for another time as he got up. It had been a close fight, but Asher could tell the animal put all of its stats into Agility. Nothing into strength. The only reason it hit him so hard was because it used lightning and mana to strengthen itself. Looking down he noticed his chestplate was already back to its original shape.

Walking over to the monkey the 2 halves had split apart revealing a purple Mana Heart. The Golden Jojo monkey had evolved enough for the color to change from the blue of normal Hearts. More mana in the air meant it would happen much more quickly.  Asher was honestly lucky he defeated it when he did. Much longer and the monkey’s body may have caught up with the Heart. He moved his stats and studied his screen.

He had received over 48,000 experience from the boss. During his Trial he had met someone that was able to mostly do the math on experience gained from monsters. Turns out it was 1/20th of the experience needed for their current experience needs. So if you killed a level 1 monster you would get 1/20th of 50 XP, so 2 XP. But then multipliers were brought in. If you were higher level than what you killed you lost 2% of XP per level higher. Bottoming out at 20 levels higher. If you killed something that was a higher level you gained 3% XP per level you were lower. Boss monsters then gave you double.

Not great information to have back then, but it was good to know. There were also different multipliers like if you were in a group or raid, and distance away from a kill. For instance when he dueled Nicolai all that time ago he lost experience points because he used a health potion during the duel.

Asher felt happy to be able to prove himself once more. He received this same title in his Roktai trial, and it had been hard won then as well. Putting the monkey's body in his ring he jumped up and started his trek North. He killed a few more apes. They were absent during his boss fight. After a few hours of jumping from branch to branch he reached the Northern point of the island.

More purple ocean water he noticed horses running on the water again. They headed West around the continent. Intrigued, Asher followed. It took him another day of running on the coast for them to get to where they were going.

A few hundred feet out from the shore was a small island that hadn’t been on the map they made. The horses ran into a wide cave. “Damn Seahorses,” he said as he began to swim. They were hiding something in there. He could feel it.

As he got closer he noticed the island and cave were a lot bigger than he expected. Stepping out of the water he didn’t try to hide his presence as he walked in the mouth of the tunnel. At least 40 feet across he started heading downward. No noise for a while he wondered if he was in the wrong place as it became colder.

The sound of water splashing sounded ahead. Eventually when the cave opened into a wide open space he realized that the water sound was the horses walking around. They were literally made out of water. Their fur matched the dark purple, and it swirled around inside them as they moved. There were at least 100 of them there. He used Identification and they averaged around level 35. Asher did the math. About 8,000 experience each. If he killed half that was about 400,000 experience. Enough for him to level twice. He was very tempted. Most monsters were far apart, and he spent most of his time running to find them.

His hand starting to itch. He watched them congregating around a huge blue boulder. Aqualitium, he thought. One of the elemental gems, it was the largest one Asher had ever seen. Behind the gem a thick Mana Branch glowed blue. It started making sense to Asher now why there were so many elemental animals. If he had looked deeper he might have found an elemental gem near the monkeys or shadow cats.

Tosh had said they weren’t worth that much, but Mana Corruption was rare. Asher doubted there were many that had absorbed so much mana. Especially enough to help evolve monsters to match the affinity of a gem.

He looked around. The horses appeared to worship the gem as they faced it. Part of him really wanted more XP. Honestly he’d probably be doing them a favor. Just put them out of their misery before the planet exploded. Then another part didn’t want to piss Tiff off by killing a bunch of horsies.

“Just hope she doesn’t find out,” he whispered. Casting Intimidation the horses jostled and turned around. Backing up they began to neigh and scream. “Sorry about this,” he said, stepping forward. “I’ll let the little ones go,” he promised. They were low level anyway.

—-

Asher got about half of them before they stopped trying to attack and did their best to get away. He had to use his sword to break the Aqualitium enough to fit in his ring. Only 2 days till his meet up with the others he needed to work on his plan for Keera. Relaxing he noticed he had leveled with the seahorses, but only once. He was close to 38 though.

Congratulations

For reaching level 37 you have learned the skill

Holy cow, Asher thought. Good luck breaking up with me now.

Since he still needed to level a lot he decided to gift those that needed experience. He set Tiffany to 2%, Zora to 3%, and Lyola at 0%. The girls were fighting for their lives now, and needed it more than Lyola. If she took what they wanted seriously maybe he could talk her into training again. Then he would raise it up. Besides, he still hadn’t asked what level she was, he was guessing she was in her 30s. With any luck maybe he would get more Champion Gear that gave experience and could gift more.

With that done he used his Relationship Screen to ensure he didn’t get too close to Tiffany and headed to the West part of the continent. She would distract him if he checked up on her team. He scouted the area for more groups of mobs. A few gatherings here and there he finally found the spider and mammoth spawn points. Or homes, whatever you wanted to call them. He was able to get a few stragglers, enough to level to 38 and then some.

As ready as he would ever be Ash ran to the meeting point. He was a little early but since Tiff was growing closer he set up his camp and started a big fire. His parents group was the first to arrive. They appeared much worse off than when he left them, but he thought they exuded a lot more confidence.

“Hey,” he said, passing out plates of food to them. White lights appeared as chairs materialized. They sat with a huff. “Have fun?”

No one answered. He studied them. Abby had jumped to level 32. His mom was 31 and his dad was 30. Batman was 29 and Keera was 26. All of them had done well.

“Fight a boss?” He asked, knowing the answer. They too had received a few hundred point jump at one point. Keera was now on the board, but barely. He needed to make sure she stayed on it.

“Don’t remind me,” Abby said. “It was the worst. Took us 4 days.” Then the 5 of them recounted their fight with the Meowster.

They had to retreat the first day. The second day they found it again, and with a plan they were able to keep it at bay until the third day. Then it ran away. On the fourth they had fought more shadowcats and were able to kill it finally.

“You did well. Was it harder than you thought?” He asked. A few grumbled. “But not impossible?”

“No, not impossible,” his mother admitted. Her armor was dirty, but she had taken to the tank role well.

“What the hell have you been fighting to get so many points?” Keera asked. Asher hadn’t looked at the Contribution Board much since before he fought the monkey. He brought it up.

“Ah, I forgot to check. Looks like I got a lot for the Secret Boss I found,” he said with a smile. “The notification said there were 5 more. I’m not sure if thats 5 more in this trial, or between all the trials.” The others stared at him.

“How the hell do you solo a boss?” Abby eventually asked.

“Hard work,” he offered. “It helps to always be focused.” He felt that they were finally ready. Now that they had fought a boss their eyes had been opened slightly. “Dad, your Intellect, what's it at?”

“In the 50s,” he admitted. He did well to not say the exact amount.

“What is 5,321x426?” Asher asked.

“Uh, I don’t know that,” he said. No one bothered to come up with it.

“2,266,746,” Asher said as he finished the calculation. “And my Intellect is in the 30s. You all know you are way stronger than normal people. Those stats allow us to grow exponentially. But they don’t make you stronger or faster unless you know how to use it. Now that you’ve fought against a Boss monster and won, I think you are all ready to take it up to the next level.” There were some disbelieving looks.

“There’s another level?” Keera asked.

“It’s the System, there is always a new level,” he admitted.

It took another hour for the rest to find their spot on the sand. After eating and some telling of stories he gathered them around. “Isyant tried to tell all of us to circulate mana throughout our bodies at all times. Everyone use Mana Sight,” he said. They did, they looked around, their eyes were the only thing that glowed.

“How come I’m the only one circulating mana? Especially you Ming, if you gain strength by absorbing mana, you should be doing so, even at rest.” There were no answers. “I’m not using my mana up, or making my MP drop. If I were to punch something, I wouldn’t use any either. I would have to increase the amount circulating by a lot for that to happen. This mana isn’t really doing anything, but making me be aware of my body. You all know it takes focus to use your strength. Circulating mana allows you to stay focused at all times.”

They slowly understood what he was getting at. “It takes practice. For now it should only be during fights. But if you can get the hang of it, you will finally be able to use your stats to their fullest. Right now you are scratching the surface and only using what you think you need.”

“How will we do that?” Abby asked.

“Farming,” he said with a smile. Asher sent them all a Raid invite.

“Are you sure this will work?” Keera asked.

“Pretty sure,” Asher said. Nadir was beside them. “We need to get everyone more points. I think being in a raid group will get us all to share them. Drops our experience, but everyone has gained a lot of levels already.” Keera was nervous beside him, but he had confidence in her. “Use your projection skill,” he said.

Mana pushed out of Keera in front of them. A large screen appeared. It was 20 feet wide and another 20 feet tall. The screen zoomed in to the scene before them. It was dawn now, and they were just outside the spider spawn point he found. They lived in burrows in the ground, there were hundreds in the sand in front of them. The psychic spiders hadn’t bothered them yet, but they would soon.

“Turn it around,” he said. The projection flipped, it was now looking at them. “Zoom in on my face,” he ordered. His face was zoomed in on. “Perfect,” he said. “Flip it back around.” The screen returned to showing the spider layer. She had used this skill to hide behind when she landed, but he didn’t think she was using it to its full potential.

“You use Sound and Illusion Mana,” Asher said. His Mana Sight was so high that he could see the different colored mana pouring out of her to the screen ahead. “You will copy a scene you choose, and also the sound. I have a skill called Intimidation. It uses Physical Mana in my voice to scare monsters. You should be able to copy and project it,” he said. “We will scare spiders to the others on the other side of the spawn point. Some may attack us, but we will kill them if they do. We should all gain experience and Contribution Points since we are working together and in a raid,” he finished. He had reviewed this with them earlier after explaining how to circulate mana. Keera and Nadir now circulated mana in their bodies. Just a little, it was a good start.

“Nadir, I want you to cast Illusions to help scare any that get away. The spiders hate the mammoths the most.” Nadir nodded.

“Ready?” Asher asked. He stared ahead and cast Intimidation. Roaring into the camera. Nothing immediately happened as his voice echoed over the land. When it died down spiders began pouring out of their burrows. Like breaking a spider egg sac they ran in all directions. Asher used Intimidation again. Many smaller psychic spiders ran the opposite way, directly toward the others. The larger spiders ran toward Asher.

“Here we go,” Asher said, pulling out his sword. The spiders disappeared with their Psychic Mana, but using Mana Sight they were as clear as day.
