C32 – Awkward Visit ◇ Hiria

Assumptions are a scary thing.

If I had found the same degree of coincidence in other boys, I might have noticed it earlier. However, I had ruled him out from the start.

Still, even though I was confused, I felt sorry for him. I unilaterally lashed out at him and left. I’m not sure if he knew it was me, as Sakura-kun said when I thought about it calmly. It’s impossible that all of this was an act.

He must have been as surprised as I was.

It had been a few days since everything had fallen apart, but I still couldn’t accept the reality.

“Sakura, Saionji.”

After school, I was about to leave when I saw Masuda Sensei holding a small bouquet of flowers in his hand, beckoning to me in the hallway.

Even if it was just a chore, I didn’t want to face him right now.

“The principal has been hospitalized with appendicitis.”

“Eh, is that so?”

“The surgery is over and he’s in the hospital.”

“Ah, that’s good to hear.”

Masuda-sensei said that much and pulled out his phone to show the location of the hospital. It was a hospital close to here.

“I want you two to visit him before you leave.”

“Why?”

“First of all, the principal likes you guys!”

“Huh?”

“Secondly, he’s a little depressed!”

“H-ha.”

“If you understand, please take these flowers to cheer him up.”

Masuda-sensei forcefully pushed the bouquet of flowers to Sakura-kun.

“Eh, Sensei, You’re not going?”

“I’m going too, of course! I’m sure I will, but… I’m busy today!”

I think he was giving us quite a lot of shifting eyes.

Masuda-sensei said, “I’ll be counting on you,” and fled in a huff to evade pursuit.

I was left there with Sakura-kun and the flowers.`

I glanced over at him, but he was imposing and refused to make eye contact as usual. It was the usual cool, calm, girl-rejecting integrity of Sakura Souji.

Even now that I know for sure, he still doesn’t look like the person I liked. It’s as if I’ve fallen for some kind of a big scam.

I’m getting a little pissed off.

The problem is that Sakura-kun is too different from his story. He’s full of lies, isn’t he? He’s not like Nekura-kun at all. It is also annoying that the flower in his hand looks too good for nothing.

I turned around and stuck my tongue out.

“Sa-Saionji-san.”

“Hmm.”

I let out a small whine as his expression fell slightly. But the anger and embarrassment in my heart won’t go away with such a thing.

I snatched the bouquet from Sakura-Kun’s hand and quickly went back to my seat to pick up my bag. I couldn’t help but be curt.

I’m embarrassed, to be honest.

I couldn’t look at his face because I felt so embarrassed as if a stranger had heard all the things I had said to Nekura-kun and the things I had said to Sakura-kun.

I can’t look at him.

As I was changing my shoes near the shoebox, he came over. Trying not to look at him, I quickly left the gate.

As I hurriedly walked out of the school gate, Sakura-kun called me.

“Saionji-san.”

“…”

“Saionji-san!”

“What!”

I turned around angrily and was told by Sakura-kun, who had stopped at a corner, “The road is this way”.

This time I walked a little behind him. I kicked a stone in frustration. The stone fell into the drainage ditch. I glared at Sakura-kun’s well-postured back.

“Hey, liar.”

“I did not lie.”

“You had a friend.”

“He wasn’t there at the time… Oh, maybe he was?”

“Idiot!”

Even though I took out my anger on him, he didn’t get angry. This is surprising for the cool and guarded Sakura-kun, but not at all surprising for the mild and unattractive Nekura-kun.

“Ah, that’s the way Saionji-san.”

“… What do you mean you’re not popular?”

He replied to the voice that hit him from behind while checking the map on his phone.

“You know my personality… I was surrounded by girls and I didn’t know what to say. I could make safe responses… but I didn’t always know what to do. I’ve never had a girlfriend, and even if someone confessed to me once in a while, I was afraid they’d find out my personality, so I turned them all down.”

How could I know that? I thought Nekura-kun was a more normal, unattractive person. It really pisses me off.

“You get used to it when it’s been like that for years!”

“I didn’t get used to it… I mean, it only got worse.”

It’s kind of disheartening. I’m so dumbfounded that I don’t feel like saying anything.

I looked up at the sky and spilled my vain thoughts.

“Aa~h, I shouldn’t have looked at your face at that time…”

I couldn’t help but mutter, even though it was my own fault. It was almost as if I was talking to myself, but Sakura-kun didn’t respond.

“If I hadn’t seen it, I’d still be flirting with Nekura-kun right now…”

“W-with me?”

“No!”

“But it’s me…”

“Yes, but no!”

I walked again, step by step. I saw what looked like a hospital, my destination.

“Ah, that’s the hospital.”

Sakura-kun turned around, said just that, and turned around again. I glared at his back.

“Give me back…!”

“Eh…?”

“I want my beloved Nekura-kun back!”

“…”

“I want to see Nekura-kun!”

Sakura-kun hid his face with one of his hands. His ears were red.

“I’m not talking about you, Sakura-kun!”

“But it’s me…!”

“I know! But it’s different!”

We arrived at the hospital, but to my surprise, the principal was taking a nap. And he had just fallen asleep.

We left the flowers with the principal’s wife and went outside within five minutes.
