Chapter 51 – Invitation

A stone pillar about 3 meters high that I made myself.

And a basket with materials on it.

Although I was able to successfully fulfill my wish to lift it where no one could reach it, I found myself in the embarrassing situation of not being able to reach it either.

With only about one emergency magic power left for Rush and unable to test whether or not the stone pillar could be made to disappear, I began to hunt for a fixed point, feeling half-crazy.

In the evening, when my magic power had recovered to some extent, I tried to use magic while muttering “make the stone pillar disappear” and “turn the stone pillar into sand,” but none of them worked.

Finally, I managed to retrieve the basket by using magic to pile earth at the base of the stone pillar, causing it to lose its balance and topple over.

It was unexpected that a stone pillar, or rather a stone, could not be returned on its own, but… well, it was a good lesson for me.

By the way, on the way back to Bezart, I tried various ways to reduce the amount of earth that had piled up, as I thought it would be a waste to leave the magic power behind.

In other words, making a hole in the ground is not that difficult when you use magic.

Then, for some reason, I formed my hand into the shape of a pistol and muttered, “Fire, light it,” and confirmed that a match-like fire was lit immediately after a bluish-purple mist appeared at my fingertips.

Although it was good that I was now free from the mysterious rule of activating magic with my feet, the question remained as to why Fire Magic was not activated at that time.

What could I do now that I couldn’t do then?

Looking back, there are so many things that I have no idea what the answer is.

I feel that the most important thing is that I met the Goddess, but then, do all magicians in the world meet the Goddess in person? The mystery continues to deepen.

Well, I can activate it now.

This is incredibly important.

I can use Fire Magic, Earth Magic, and the Wind Magic I acquired today.

I’ve tried Wind Magic and found out that I can use it as a fuel-saving fan by blowing weak wind on my face, and I can even send invisible blades into the air like the Air Mantis.

It’s still level 1, so the flying distance is about 10 meters, though it seems to have dissipated into the air along the way, to the point where I can’t even peel the bark off a tree…

If the fruit is a little high up, I could probably use this wind to drop it.

Build an earthen wall to secure a place to sleep, use fire to roast the prey, or use the wind to harvest food in places where it can’t be taken…

It’s more like building a foundation for life than offensive magic, but I’m excited that if I could just get Water Magic, I’d be able to have a stable life even when I’m holed up in some hunting ground.

Should I spend the skill points to get Water Magic instead of throwing away my canteen?

Or should I save my skill points and hold out until I can use Water Magic to defeat the monsters I’m sure I’ll run into sooner or later, which is quite a problem.

Well, it’s a happy problem that I can always solve, so I’ll think about it some more and decide what to do.

Fufufu, today is the celebration of my first time using magic, so I think I’ll go to Kaari’s shop~.

But maybe I’m going too fast~?

While I was thinking that, a voice called out to me from behind.

“Hey, wait… wait a minute!”

“Hmm? Is it me?”

“Yes, that’s right! So wait a minute! I’m calling you, don’t run away!”

I was building up my endurance for my usual training.

Even with the basket on my back, I had to jog whenever possible, and the people behind me had to run short because of the effects of jogging.

Only one person followed me, and it seemed that the person with the basket and another person walked leisurely far behind me.

I thought to myself, “It can’t be helped,” and switched to walking.

“So, what can I do for you?”

“Ah. I wanted to ask, are you hunting alone?”

The man who asked this was familiar.

He was the guy who split the money at the Hunters’ Guild… uh, Atent or Adent.

I’m probably right because he’s holding a spear.

And he’s looking back and forth between my face and the contents of the basket.

“Yes, I am…”

“Oh, I see. Well, that’s good, isn’t it? My name is Adent. I was wondering if I could bring at least one more person to the party and let you into my party.”

“…Huh?”

For a moment, I didn’t understand what this person was talking about.

I was at least prepared that it might be an invitation to a party…

Why am I being invited in such a supercilious way, like “I’ll let you in”?

Maybe because of my appearance?

Because I am a child?

When I looked at him, the guy in front of me was probably about 20 years old.

I think the other party members I saw before were about the same age.

I thought to myself, “I am older than you…” But because I’m older, I opened my mouth quietly to avoid any trouble.

“I’m sorry; I appreciate that you invited me to the party out of concern, but it’s in my nature to act alone, so I’m sorry.”

“Huh? I didn’t expect you to refuse.”

“Huh?”

“You’ve only recently started going to Rocker Plain, haven’t you? I’ve never seen anything like it. You’re supposed to be hunting in Rocker in a party, right?”

“Amanda-san told me about it, too. I just don’t feel the need for a party yet.”

“Kids with strange confidence like that are the first to die. I said I can’t overlook this as a senior member, so why don’t you be a good boy and work with us? I’m sure the guild will agree.”

Ahhhh, this is the most annoying thing ever…

I can tell from the way he looks at me that he’s only after my materials.

Of course, if a party that had about 120,000 beeke the other day gets close to 300,000 beeke by adding one more person, the guys in the party will be overjoyed.

But I am not happy at all.

There is no benefit, income, experience, or skill experience; everything is lost, and personal safety is not even a plus since you cannot assume you will die on the Rocker Plains from the start.

I just don’t think… overdoing it is more trouble than it’s worth.

The only way to go about it is to look at the following.

“I’m sorry. I’ll still work on my own for now.”

I just have to refuse. This is the only way.

No matter what you say in sales, if you keep getting rejected for no reason, you will not know what to do.

On the other hand, if they say, “We can’t do it for this reason,” it’s easier to negotiate because there’s a chance they’ll come to you when you break down the reason they can’t do it.

“No, wait a minute. Can you stop for a second and talk to our members, too? They’re all good guys; you’ll get used to them. We even have our porter, so you don’t have to carry the load!”

“I’m fine. I’m sorry.”

“Nobody likes to be a bad luck charm, you know? If you don’t do it now, it will be even harder for you to join the party later!”

“I’m prepared, sorry.”

“Tch… I’ll report you to the guild! Even if you regret it, I don’t care!”

“Yes, I’m sorry.”

Phew… it’s finally over.

The training I received from Amanda-san before was basically self-help for hunter-to-hunter problems.

She said that as long as it was not against the law, such as killing a person, she would tolerate some injuries, partly due to the profession of being a hunter.

Therefore, it was very bad when they came at me with violence.

It was not a matter of whether I could win or not, but rather whether once the spark was ignited, it would definitely hinder my future activities.

I’m a solo act, which means I have almost no acquaintances.

On the other hand, they are probably residents of Bezart City, and if they have been hunters for a long time, they probably have many acquaintances.

In other words, there might be a lot of people on their side.

If I got into trouble in such a situation… I wouldn’t be able to live safely in the city of Bezart.

It is the same in games.

The solo player has no fences, and it’s easy, but once a problem arises, you’re in a weak position.

It was common to be targeted for PK at all hours of the day.

In a game, it would have been fine to just kick the crap out of them, but… this is the real world.

If I killed them, I would have gone to jail or been executed.

Oh, dear.

I thought there were a lot of good people in the town of Bezart…

I returned to the town of Bezart feeling depressed and thinking about the future.
