Chapter 68 27th of the 12th month

In the lunar calendar, it was 27th of the 12th month, only three days away from the new year. According to the customs of Su Tianyu's ancestral home, they would visit their ancestors' graves before the new year. However, the Su family was a clan in exile, and since the living could not easily move the dead, their family graves were still in their homeland, the Chinese Zone. Thus, they could only resort to traditional customs, such as burning paper money and other offerings at crossroads and ports, to express their grief.

Before Su Tianyu came to Dragon City, he would also buy some offerings to burn at crossroads during the Lunar New Year holidays to commemorate his parents during his leisure time. However, this year was his first year returning home, so Su Zhengcai made it a more significant event. He had the Third Sister prepare a lot of things in advance, hoping to send off his parents and reassure them that he had grown up and become an adult.

It was just past seven in the evening when the Su family, comprising dozens of people, arrived at the Haiyan Pit with a half-truck full of offerings, ready to begin their ritual.

Third Sister drew many circles on the ground and placed the offerings in batches. Su Zhengcai was the first to light incense and burn paper for his parents and grandparents, as well as various elders.

As the paper money was about to burn out, Su Zhengcai led everyone in bowing and kowtowing while yelling, "Kowtow!"

For a family with a thriving population, performing this traditional ceremony was still quite moving. Dozens of people bent down and knelt on the ground, bowing and worshiping toward the distant east. As the smoke slowly dissipated from the burning offerings, it represented the living's longing for their deceased relatives.

After Su Zhengcai had finished offering to his parents and elders, he stood up and turned to Su Tianyu, saying, "Kowtow to your parents and burn some paper for them."

Su Tianyu had not been very emotional since his parents had passed away several years ago. However, the grandeur of the ceremony that the Su family had arranged today somehow touched a soft spot in his heart.

Standing beside the circle, Su Tianyu lit the paper money, placed some white wine and offerings, and paid his respects to his parents.

As the sea breeze blew, Su Tianyu was suddenly reminded of the scene when his father was being taken to prison. At the time, he had already been worn down by the investigating department, his body thin and pale. But even so, Su Tianyu's father spoke to his son in a calm tone: "Our generation carries a lot of baggage to survive, but your generation is different. Son, live well, live happily. I will always be proud of you."

After his father was persecuted for political reasons, Su Tianyu's will was once very depressed. But his mother, who was already bedridden, continued to encourage him, urging him to apply for military school and follow his own life plan, free from the influence of their family.

Before she passed away, Su Tianyu's mother did not add any negative emotions to him. She was always optimistic and strong, spending the night before she died in the hospital with him, looking at his course materials, and chatting with him.

Thinking about all of this, Su Tianyu felt a little sad. After burning the paper money, he knelt on the ground, knocking his head while whispering softly, "Dad, Mom, I've graduated... Another year has passed so quickly, I'll give you some money to spend so you don't have to worry about me down there. I know how I want to live my future life."

With his head bowed to the ground, Su Zhengcai lovingly patted Sixth dog's head and said, "Good job, you've succeeded. They both can rest now."

The memorial ceremony was over.

A car stopped at the intersection, and the two Bai brothers got out of the car, with Bai Hongbo shouting to Sixth dog, Su Tiannan, Su Tianbei, and others, "Let's find a place to get together, okay?"

"Why do you get together every day? Don't you have anything important to do?" Su Zhengcai reprimanded Bai Hongbo.

"Uncle, the meaning of life is not just about being alive. The process of having fun is also important," Bai Hongbo replied with a grin. "Come on, let's go together?"

Su Zhengcai scolded with his hands behind his back, "Get lost, you idiot!"

Bai Hongbo chuckled and shouted to Su Tianyu and the others, "Alright, let's go. It's almost Chinese New Year, let's have some fun together."

During the Chinese New Year, the most important thing for the Chinese people is to have fun. So when Su Tianyu and the others were invited, they didn't refuse. After a simple ceremony to pay respects to the deceased, they followed Bai Hongbo and his friends.

In the evening, around nine o'clock.

After the group had finished their dinner at the restaurant, they went to the entertainment city on Zhanan South Central Street, where they sang karaoke and partied.

Inside the private room, Bai Hongbo went straight to Third Sister and said, "Miaomiao, want to play dice?"

"Just the two of us? What's the point?" Third Sister replied, uninterested, as she ate fruit.

"It's more fun with just the two of us. If you win, you can tell me to do something. If I win, you just have to give me a kiss." Bai Hongbo proposed the rules with a hint of romance in his voice.

Third Sister looked at him sideways and said, "If I win, would you eat shit?"

"As long as you're willing to watch, I don't even need sugar to eat it." Bai Hongbo replied firmly.

"Get lost, go eat it in front of your daughter!" Third Sister had obviously heard a lot of gossip about Bai Hongbo lately.

"Hey, are you jealous?"

"I'll eat your mom."

Beside them, Su Tianyu had just finished singing a song and was sitting on the sofa, sweating profusely. He turned his head and saw Bai Hongbo's younger brother, Bai Hongtao.

Bai Hongtao was twenty-three years old, with a gentle and fair appearance. He spoke very little and had a fierce personality. During the battle with Lu Feng at the Fortune Inn, he was the main force of the Bai family. If it weren't for him that day, Big Bai's face would have been chopped in half.

"Why aren't you singing?" Su Tianyu asked with a smile.

"Ah, I don't like singing," replied Bai Hongtao as he played with his phone. "But I'm up for playing mahjong or something."

Bai Hongtao and his brother had different preferences - one loved women, the other loved gambling - but neither had reached the point of obsession.

"Let's do it tomorrow. We'll set up two tables and play mahjong," Su Tianyu said with a smile.

"Okay!" Bai Hongtao put down his phone, sat up straight, and began chatting with Su Tianyu. "Hey, when do you think our business at sea will recover?"

"I'm not sure either, but Mr. Yu has been networking these days. I heard he's been in contact with other areas' gangs, but I didn't ask for details," Su Tianyu responded softly.

Outside of Dragon City, in an anarchic unregulated area, a dozen men gathered together. They were the same group that had been hired by Yu Mingyuan to hijack cargo from a rival gang.

The group gathered in a run-down small house, and the leader handed out money bags as payment. "It's almost Chinese New Year. Let's all take it easy and enjoy the holiday. But remember, don't contact each other or give out contact information. Keep a low profile. When there's work to be done, I'll let you know."

"Got it!"

After agreeing, the old gangsters took their money and dispersed. Some went home for the holidays, while others went out to enjoy themselves.

The next day, one of the old gangsters met with a friend before going home and whispered to him, "I have some goods. Can you help me sell them? Price doesn't matter."
