Yoo Yoenha’s prison is becoming more lively and civil. There are bookshelves, a nice table, a little furniture, and even a comfortable bed.

There are also a few items of interest she can work with like the laptop and notebook tablet to kill time. It is restricted to viewing and surfing. She cannot contact anyone with it. Still, it is a great tool for her to remain updated on the hottest and latest news.

Speaking of news, Shin Jonghak receives a short focus of popularity from the Hero Association, but Hyon Hyung quickly steals the spotlight, however, that is too within a short period of time as Kim Hajin takes all of the spotlight for himself.

Behind this are a series of machinations with multiple facets where Nayun and Suho are able to work behind the scenes without impediments.

Hyon Hyung and Kim Hajin’s stunt is certainly impressive in that it is able to open up an opportunity so that they can hit multiple objectives at once. Yoenha lists the achievements their stunt is able to create in her own little notebook tablet.

They are able to disguise the Djinns’ true objective of attacking Cube. They are able to hide Yoenha’s real situation. They are able to safely kill the remaining Djinns in Cube. They are able to hack the Hero Association’s Tower. Lastly. Allow Yoenha to contact her father.

The fifth achievement is yet to be accomplished as Yoenha remains fearful of whether she should do it, or just let it be. She has one chance to contact her father, and she must do her best to convince him to not do anything drastic.

Yoo Yoenha is kidnapped by the Djinns, this is the story they want the world to see. For this to happen successfully, she must gain her father’s cooperation.

The [Essence of the Strait Guild] is not to be looked down upon. She knows it best not to underestimate as she has been training herself her whole life to lead it in the future. Moreover, there is that uncle of hers who excels at information gathering.

If her father finds it in his heart to see past his differences with his brother and gets his help, it is almost certain that Yoenha will be found out.

Yoenha doesn’t want her father to learn her situation, that she has become a Devil’s Seed’s host. Even the idea of becoming a Djinn doesn’t sit well for her, and it should be the same for her father too. This thinking runs through her head like it is normal.

According to Hyung though, she doesn’t need to worry as her father loves her very much and will do anything for her. Yoenha knows after all her father is a fool for his daughter, but despite that, there is this inkling of fear at the back of her mind that her father will hate her if he learns what has become of her.

Yoo Yoenha grits her teeth and finally sends an encrypted message to her father via his personal contact information. She doesn’t need to wait for long as she receives a video call pinging to her location.

She fumbles on her laptop, and with her subsiding panic comes calm. She straightens her sitting posture and tries to make herself as comfortable as possible. Finally, the familiar black hair and face with little stubble on his chin appear on Yoenha’s laptop screen. It is her dad who seems to be growing a beard now.

“Yoenha? Darling, my girl! Are you okay? Where are you? I will come and save you immediately!” The camera is shaky, but Yoenha judges that her father must be on the seas considering the background.

Yoenha feels exasperated. “What are you doing father?” she asks seriously, as she finds her father’s situation to be bizarre. “What are you doing in the seas?”

“I learned that it is the Lilith Djinn Faction who attacked Cube at that time. I am on my way to knock on their doorsteps…” Yoo Jinhyung’s face warps ferociously as little red sparks from his magic power pulse with his emotions. It appears that he is on a yacht and is single-handedly planning on storming the enemy base.

Yoenha panics and taps on the laptop to open more tabs. She finds the information she is looking for. It is the extrapolated data of the Lilith Faction that the Cube AI, Hajin, and Rachel are able to collect from the clues they gather from the dead Djinn Cube Cadets and Instructors.

“You really went to the Adriatic sea… alone?” Yoenha asks in disbelief. ‘Are you stupid?’ Her face seems to tell her father how ridiculously worried and conflicted she is.

“Eh? How did you know that? Don’t worry, I have a plan! I am going in incognito mode! As long as I don’t use my trademark abilities, I should be able to go clean in and out.”

‘I’d rather not…’ Yoenha feels bad for herself and her dad. Once again, she realizes how much loved she is. “Dad, don’t go…”

Yoo Jinhyung from the camera is tearing up at his daughter’s words. “No, daughter. You will be fine. I will be fine. I promise you that.” He resolutely answers.

“No, Dad… Don’t go! I am not even there! I am still in Korea!”

“What?”

All too suddenly, the yacht trembles as something appears on the screen. “Talk to you later, there is a sea monster here!” Yoo Jinhyung removes himself from the camera as he engages in a short skirmish. The laptop screen has become black. It appears that he has pocketed his smartwatch to protect it from seawater and the fight.

Yoo Yoenha waits patiently for her father to do his urgent business.

“There is a human in here!”

“Ugh… fucking Djinns!” That sounds like her dad.

“Die! You are a piece of shit!”

“No, you die!” Yep, definitely her dad.

“Have the crab tank him!”

“I did not order seafood!” Her dad spiritedly shouts.

Shortly after, Yoo Jinhyung grabs the smartwatch to talk to Yoenha. Behind Yoo Jinhyung are three giant crabs speeding and chasing him like speedboats. Some humanoid figures can be seen behind the crabs’ backs. “You are in Korea!? Good! Let’s talk later, sweetie.”

Yoenha’s connection with her dad goes offline.

“…”

“What the hell is that?”

Yoenha turns around to see where the voice comes from only to see Hyon Hyung inside her prison. “Hyon…” She is not used to calling him by his given name as ‘Hyung’ is really that awkward. That aside… “What is that on your shoulder?”

“It is not a ‘that’, but a 'she'! Yoenha, meet Evandel, Evandel, meet Yoenha!” Hyon Hyung picks up the little girl from under his shoulders and presents her to Yoenha. “Please take care of her from now on! She will be very lonely without me, but she should be fine around you as you have the smell of a Devil AKA a monster, so she should do just fine with you!”

“Aren’t you afraid that I will go in one of my episodes? And you… From what I hear, I can easily overpower you once I go out of control. Why are you risking yourself like this? What are you even doing here?”

“I want to meet up with Hajin to give him Aether, but he’s not here so I decided to talk to you first.” he sloppily replies. “Don’t be scared by your episodes as you call them. I am way stronger than you now! Moreover, this cage is leagues above the Detention Center’s features. Evandel will be safe here. The more important thing now is to foster her emotional growth, and since you are sane enough, then there should be no harm.”

***

Harm? Risk? Of course, there is a lot.

The smell of a Devil? That is actually a lie. Evandel is just like any other normal child out there, but she just has a ridiculous amount of magic power for an infant. I think her magic power is about average for a cube cadet. That doesn't really make her a monster though.

More than being a babysitter for Evandel, I want Yoenha to use her as emotional support just like in Hajin’s most depressing times in the novel. This might make me sound utilitarian but at least my dear Evandel here has someone she can always be with.

One of the regrets I have in the novel is that Evandel lacks people she can interact with. Of course, she is able to have friends about her age after Hajin drops off from Cube, but it is still sad how sheltered her life is.

In my eyes, placing Evandel and Yoenha in the same room is a risk worth betting my chances on. I have the God of Luck on my side, so why not? It is not like I don’t have countermeasures. I scan the Death Knight just one step away from me, hiding by my shadows, a unique skill I think. I am giving it access to enter the place as much as Evandel does.

“So, is that your dad? Did you talk to him about it? And what the F are those crabs?” I inquire.

“Not yet,” Yoenha replies glumly while she challenges Evandel with a staring contest. “I will have to talk to him again…”

“Okay,” I halfheartedly answer, my feet already on the warping gate.

I should be able to leave the two on their own. He he he… There is no need for me to say goodbye, right? I can just vanish now. To be honest, I am afraid to show Evandel to Hajin yet, so I have to leave Evnadel here in the meantime.

“Death Knight,” I call to the Death Knight who is masterfully hiding by my shadows. “Protect Evandel, kay?”

Finally, I vanish into the warping mechanism of the prison.
