Babysitting duties? It is very annoying, but before she knows it, Hyon Hyung is already gone. ‘I have better things to do!’ She inwardly complains.

Her eyes remain connected to the dull eyes of the little child by the name of Evandel. Black hair, a Witch Hat, and a blob of magic power in the shape of a scarf.

Evandel has brand new clothes on her body, a Hawaiian shirt Yoenha analyzes to belong to Hyon Hyung judging by its size. Yoenha has a good eye for things, and her investigatory work is not inferior to most private investigators. “This is definitely Hyon’s…” She easily concludes as there is still a tag on the shirt.

Yoenha recalls the brief contact with Hyon. There are also signs that his clothes come fresh from the mall. If she factors in that Hyon Hyung is only recently released from the Hero Association’s confinement, then it makes perfect sense.

But then, where does this kid come from?

“Did he seriously pick up a lost and beggar child and bring it here?” Yoenha feels weird. Korea shouldn’t have slums by this point in time already. “He is a clairvoyant, so maybe this little girl will become a powerhouse in the future?” She analyzes the situation at her hand seriously.

Among the members of their humble organization, Yoenha should be the one who is mostly out of the loop. The truth is, Kim Hajin is actually speed typing what he remembers from his own work, and has others read it. He is also doing a lot of guesswork to try to document the story of ‘The Novel’s Extra’ through Nayun’s and Hyon’s accounts.

Thus, among them, only Yoenha is unaware that there are actually three transmigrators and one regressor in their club. But that doesn’t stop Yoenha from analyzing what the others are up to. As she also wants to be of help, she also has some responsibilities within their organization.

The most shocking knowledge she learns is that Kim Hajin is a monster in trading stocks. If Hajin claims to be a clairvoyant, she will believe him more than Hyon’s claims to be one.

That aside, this Evandel little girl is really tough. It has been five minutes, and the little girl is not still blinking. But Yoenha won’t fall so easily. Her gaze remains steady, meanwhile a little bit of tears start forming on Evandel’s eyes.

Slowly, Evandel cannot take it anymore. She finally closes her eyes. And then... she starts crying. “WaaaAHH~!”

Yoenha emotionlessly watches Evandel cry as she picks up something from her cabinet under the table where she is keeping most of her snacks. She unwraps a piece of chocolate with its paper wrap creating a wrinkling sound.

Evandel stops crying.

Yoenha breaks off the chocolate in half and gives the other half to Evandel. As if demonstrating to the child how to enjoy the snack, Yoenha meekly nibbles on her share while she stares at the void, not paying much attention to Evandel.

From her peripheral vision, she sees Evandel eating her chocolate in the same phase Yoenha does.

After five minutes of nibbling their chocolate, Yoenha feels annoyed as smears of the chocolate are on Evandel’s face. Moreover, the little girl smells. Yoenha only realizes this as she gets close to the little girl.

“Annoying,” she complains, but her body is more honest than her mouth.

Yoenha eagerly drags the little girl to the shower to clean her. The little girl has a bad complexion and has dirt all over her body. As Evandel’s clothes get in the way, Yoenha removes them.

Evandel fiercely resists, but Yoenha to some degree can wield strength on par with a Devil’s Seed’s host if not better. Even Aether, the magic blob, cannot withstand Yoenha’s grip strength.

“Resisting is futile.” Yoenha declares as if she is the law itself.

“Awa~awa~aw!” Evandel cutely cries, tears pouring buckets from her eyes, but then again, she is powerless.

This time, a Death Knight shows itself to the two of them inside the small bathroom. Yoenha is awed at the appearance of the Death Knight. Evandel shows an expectant expression at the appearance of her savior.

As Yoenha quickly understands the situation, she immediately takes hold of the brat under her armpits making sure to not let her go. “It is crowded here, fuck off.” As no one is here to see her swear, Yoenha easily finds the courage to spit some foul words from her delicate mouth.

The Death Knight looks at Yoenha and then at Evandel. Deciding that Evandel is not in any harm’s way, it chooses to retreat. Yoenha smugly grins at the tearful Evandel under her armpit. “Even your Death Knight knows who not to mess with.”

Evandel can only see the smile of the Devil at this point.

***

Evandel is now clothed in a shirt too big for her. It is Yoenha’s shirt.

“It looks like we have to buy you some clothes.” Yoenha firmly decides on this as she dries her own hair. She similarly has a shower of her own after catering to the brat. “You really love that hat and magic blob, huh?”

Honestly, Yoenha is annoyed by how dirty Evandel is, but cleaning her has also become a healing process for herself. “I guess, being dirty is not all bad.” Then again, Yoenha quickly rejects this new realization. “No. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. So, no…”

Evandel rolls around her own bed, while playing with her magic blob, shaping it into a grotesque humanoid shape. When her witch hat falls off her head, she immediately scrambles towards it and fixes it again in her head.

The little girl continues to play around on her bed, bouncing and shaping her magic blob as if clay.

Yoenha analyzes the little girl on the surface level. “She sounds unintelligible, but she understands me just fine, though the instructions instead of being verbal, must be communicated through gestures. So she shouldn’t be mentally impaired. Did she suffer some kind of mental trauma?”

“Hyon Hyung… What kind of kid did you just drop off to me?” She sounds like a wife who is cheated on by her husband to single-handedly take care of their own child.

Yoenha returns to her laptop. On second thoughts, she decides to bring the laptop to an angle where it will not show Evandel. The little girl has dark hair resembling hers, and even an attitude that resembles hers when she is young.

She recalls the many times her dad boasts to her how much of a daddy’s girl she is, and how she behaves when she is just three years old. She blushes in shame at the recollection. Then there is also her mom who tends to do the most ridiculous things to her child.

The memory of the past gives her a strong resolve to move forward.

One day, if she has a daughter of her own, will her experience mirror her parents, or will it be a completely different experience?

She contacts her dad a second time.

Unexpectedly, this time, it is not just her dad alone but also her annoying strict mom.

“My baby girl! Where are you? Are you doing fine?” Her mom is so worried, her makeup is a mess from tears.

“Hey, woman, no camera hogging!” Her dad indignantly complains.

“Shaddup! Or I will kill you!” Her mom violently reigns in her husband.

“…”

Yoenha is annoyed, yet tears are coming from her eyes. No. It must be because she is annoyed that tears are coming out of her eyes. “Mom. Dad. I am okay…”

“…” “…”

Her parents become quiet at her outburst of tears. “I am okay, so please don’t get worried about me…”

It is unfair for her to ask them like this as they must be worried sick, but she doesn’t know what to exactly tell them. That she has become a Devil’s Seed’s host? Maybe, soften the news, tell them that she has become a Djinn? Or should she just lie, and tell them that she is being kidnapped?

Suddenly, Yoenha feels a thump on her leg. Just under her is Evandel without her witch hat and magic blob. Evandel hugs Yoenha’s thigh, while her big round eyes stare back at her. There is no longer any dullness in Evandel's eyes. It has so little light, before, it is almost unrecognizable.

But now, her eyes seem to project life.

Yoenha finds her courage from this small affection that Evandel is showing to her. Yoenha grasps firmly on that resolve that she’ll die trying to get over this hurdle. As the future Queen of Seoul, a measly Devil’s Seed is not enough to plunge her into despair.

“Mom. Dad. I am very sick, and these friends are helping me. Please trust me, I will return to you guys, but for now… Please wait… Think of me as going on a vacation. Think of me being gone as temporary. It will not be for long. It will take years, but I promise, I will return. Mom, don’t be too hard on Dad. And Dad, please take care of the Guild! Wait patiently for my return. Because I will return.”

Yoenha goes on and on, with her passionate words until her saliva gets dry, and her throat is parched. “I love you, Mom, I love you, Dad. Please wait for this precious and sweet daughter of yours to return…”

Alfir Yoenha’s arc ends here.
