“To surmise, in order to get the former Seat of White, we must get the former Seat of Black. And for us to get the former Seat of Black, we must get the Chameleon Troupe.” Hajin is the first to break the silence.

Simply put, we need to get the Chameleon Troupe to get the former Seat of White. If we do get the former Seat of White, capturing him will not be the last of our problems as we too need to interrogate him on top of that.

I feel the burden of my words more clearly now. My suggestion of taking a shot at Devil Slaying is as much a challenge as any. “Anyone here has any suggestions on how we do it?"

Suho reasonably advises. “We should just replicate the past timeline’s situation, and have Hajin take a bite at it. Chances are they will find Hajin interesting enough with his ability to pierce magic power.”

“I concur,” Nayun agrees with Suho’s deductions. “What do you think, Hajin?”

“I will do it, but no promises. It would be nice if we could include Jonghak. He is also a likely candidate for the Chameleon Troupe's Seat of Black. Hyon, how is their orientation?” Hajin reasonably raises another possibility.

I can see it happening. Shin Jonghak after all is the original candidate target of Chameleon Troupe. It is not entirely wrong either that Jonghak’s Gift has the potential to kill magic power itself. The current Jonghak doesn’t have his black flames yet, but with the right guidance, we should be able to quicken his progress.

I belatedly reply to Hajin’s inquiry. “Rachel is doing well. Jonghak is hanging there. We already did two parts of the orientation. The next topic I am going to orient them on is the mission to ensnare Chameleon Troupe during the Combat Exam. I ask permission to continue with this.”

“Granted.” “Granted.” “Granted.”

I nod in approval of their permission. This means everyone is amiable in involving both Rachel and Jonghak in our operations. Before that, we must acquire a Tower first. “How about the Tower capture? We really don’t have exact plans for it yet. Do we involve Rachel and Jonghak?”

Hajin raises his hand and volunteers himself on the job. “No need. I will do this side quest alone. I am enough. The others should have better things to do. Moreover, this can also be good training for me.”

“Okay,” I volunteer to remain on the base. “I will check up on which technology Hajin can use. Hajin, please tell me when you are ready for the Tower Capture. I should be able to help you with supplies. I will also study the materials that I can get for the coming Combat Exam, and to see how much of it is really a festival.”

Nayun then voices her intent. “I will be teaching Jonghak then. I can roughly remember his fighting style and the nature of his Gift from the past timeline so, my input should be very valuable to him. We might also be out for a few errands. My master contacted me a while ago. How about you, Suho?”

“I am thinking of bringing Rachel to some hunting grounds to build her experience. I am thinking of Hamgyong Province for now. She lacks opportunities to apply her knowledge, so I hope to build on that. If we do manage to acquire a Tower, we’ll return immediately…” Suho reveals his plans for Rachel’s hellish training.

I ask Nayun about her errands for her master. “If it is your master, then is it Yoo Sihyuk, the Wolf of Valhalla? Be careful around him. He apparently has a real Clairvoyant friend…”

“Yes, I remember…” Nayun takes my warning seriously. Though I long told them that, it won’t hurt to remind them about my one meeting with Yoo Sihyuk. “I will be careful. But I trust my master. He might not look like it, but he is a good guy.” Nayun adds.

I know, but the human heart is a very complex thing. We don’t truly know when a person has become twisted beyond recognition, and calculating Devils into the equation just makes my point more accurate.

“Do we still have something to talk about?” Hajin raises the notion of adjourning the meeting as it appears we are almost done.

I raise another topic. “We should give Yoenha some work. She doesn’t show it, but I feel like she will want some work. Any ideas?”

Hajin doesn’t expect me to bring Yoenha up, as evident from his surprise. “I gave her work… I had her buy stocks for us, and so far so good. She is able to detect the failing stock investments that I thought should have been on the rise now. My knowledge of the future is getting more irrelevant. If anyone has a suggestion, feel free to share your thoughts.”

“Let’s give her a not-so-boring work then.” Nayun as always likes to think outside the box. “Make her plan for countermeasures on the basis that her Devil’s Seed gets the best of her.”

“That seems too cruel…” Suho comments feeling a chill on his spine.

“I agree, but not for Yoenha, but for the Devil’s Seed itself…” I smile at the thought of Yoenha excitedly thinking of a plan on how to screw with Lilith as a final ‘F You’ in the worst-case scenario she does fall, and to Yoenha’s credit, she is one of the smartest people that I know.

“It is feasible,” Hajin’s comment is as good as giving me permission. “I still don’t like putting Evandel and Yoenha in the same room though…”

“It is fine, Yoenha is still sane, and she should be able to think of a plan to save Evandel when push comes to shove. That is why I think it is perfect to ask her to make a countermeasure in case she falls to the dark side.” I reason. While I might sound with the mindset of wishful thinking, I am very confident of Yoenha’s abilities.

“Me too.” Nayun affirmatively voices her agreement.

“You guys are too optimistic, and it is too risky… but I guess, there is no immediate harm to it. And if Yoenha is able to create a perfect countermeasure on the possibility of her demise, then we can only benefit from it.” Hajin decides on this thought process, realizing there are actually more advantages than disadvantages. It is true the bar is high, but Yoenha should be able to think of something with the resources allotted to her.

Suho remains quiet for the duration we are talking about Yoenha.

“Suho?” I ask him, feeling concerned about what he might be thinking.

“Sorry, I guess I am out of it.” He apologizes for dazing off. But I don’t think he is in a daze at all. If there is something, then he should tell us, because this small something that might not be a big deal might actually be a very big deal in the future.

“What is it, Suho? If there is something worrying you… you should tell us…” I ask him whether something is bothering him.

“Is there a more specific reason, Hyon… Why are we using the theme of the Seven Deadly Sins? I admit, it is fun, and I am not saying I don’t like it. I just want to ask if there is a bigger meaning to it. I hope I am not reading too much about it but is there? After all, you have been studying history with great fanfare for some time already, and you have traced the existence of Devils in this world quite accurately… I am just being superstitious as in Akatrina, words carry great power, and less than we realize, they actually affect our lives in the most invisible ways.

Suho raises a fair point. It is difficult for me to explain though. There is this gut feeling in me that using the Seven Deadly Sins to represent each of us will yield us advantages too in the future. There is also this part of me whose gut feeling relies more on how I understand tropes.

“I…” I dig deeper into my emotions, discovering that my reason for suggesting the Seven Deadly Sins as a theme is more self-aggrandizing than I realize. “I am a very optimistic guy to the point I tend to have wishful thinking.”

I recall that day when I claimed that God might become our greatest enemy in the future. I kind of suggest using the Seven Deadly Sins to identify each member in half-jest. At that time, Chae Nayun has taken Wrath, Kim Hajin has taken Greed, Kim Suho has taken Envy, and I have taken Sloth.

“I hope that in the future when we do save Yoenha, she will join us as the Sin of Lust…” I feel my cheeks heating up. I feel like I should have said something more childish instead. “As an ally and comrade, she will be a great help to us. Also, if we are in a novel, isn’t that what should be the natural course of events, (Yoenha being cured and joining the gang) especially after naming ourselves after the Seven Deadly Sins?

“Hah~ I thought it was something serious…” Nayun sighs in relief.

“You are a good kid, Hyon…” Suho smiles kindly at me.

“Aren’t the Seven Deadly Sins overused already? The author must be trash.” Hajin is not so kind to me, but I let him be. For all I know, Hajin might be dissing himself… or the Co-Author. I don’t know…

Ultimately, Hajin adjourns the meeting after a few more exchanges of dialogue.
