Chapter 185: Minced Pork Porridge

Upon hearing that, she pouted and sent glare of daggers towards her husband.
Mandy raised one hand to swat her husband's hand away, "What nonsense!" she said.
She picked up her spoon, "I don't scare people," and started to scoop her porridge.
"I gave them pleasant surprise," and then she blew some air onto her spoon to cool the porridge down, "there is a huge difference in there, Mister."
Axel was looking at his wife's adorable pouting face with a pursed smile. His eyes seemed to hold all the stars in the sky, as the only one who shone brightly was this woman in front of him.
He raised his abandoned hand again, and rubbed the back of her head lovingly, "Yes yes yes. Of course it was a good surprise."
And then he turned to Li Xiqing and Shao Yan, "Let's eat," and then he picked up his spoon.

The dining table was full of amazing food on this bright morning.
Li Xiqing had cooked a pot of minced pork porridge. He paired the dish with a thousand year old preserved egg, braised peanuts in soy sauce, some pickled cucumbers and also Chinese doughnut stick.
While waiting for the porridge to cook just now, Li Xiqing had also squeezed fresh orange juice and a carafe of the juice was now standing on the side of the table.
"Wow!" Mandy exclaimed in surprised after she tasted her first sip of the minced pork porridge, "Qing Qing, your cooking skill has improved a lot!"
Shao Yan almost choked on her food when she heard what Mandy had used to call Li Xiqing. She quickly brought up a folded napkin to cover her mouth and held back her laughter; and she got into a series of small coughs instead.
Li Xiqing looked up from his bowl and glared at her sister, "What did I say about using nicknames? Do you want me to sell off your Jaguar, Sis?"
Mandy stuck out her tongue and then giggled happily. She went back to scooping her porridge, "But really, this is so good. I'm guessing, you boiled the pork bone the whole night? And you added a lot of white pepper too! This is heavenly!"
Li Xiqing raised one hand to pat Shao Yan on her back gently, trying to help with her cough.
"Not really, I woke up early this morning, and had it boiled for two, three hours. When you arrived just now, it was just done."
Shao Yan raised one hand to pat Li Xiqing on his thigh, letting him know that she was alright now. So Li Xiqing picked up the carafe and poured the orange juice for her, "Drink this first," he said, and then he picked up his spoon again, "drink slowly."
Mandy turned her attention to Shao Yan after receiving glares from her brother, "So Yan Yan, Xiqing told us a lot about you. Don't be so quiet, alright? I feel like I have known you forever now," she picked up the carafe and also poured the juice for Axel and her.
"Why did you have to come here? I wanted to spend more time with Xiqing and Yan Yan," Mandy pouted as she put the glass for Axel in front of him.
Axel was busy cutting off the doughnut sticks for both of them, "I missed my wife, what else can I say," he shrugged and said as he put the pieces of the doughnut on her side plate.
"After I drank all of my coffee, I did not see you around. And then suddenly Daniel texted me to invite me over for breakfast. Of course I have to give face to my brother in law," he flashed an ingratiating smile towards Mandy.

Mandy scoffed but did not say anything back.
Using her chopsticks, she picked up the fritters and dipped it into her porridge. She continued to eat in silence.
Shao Yan was still watching this couple in front of her. Mandy was blushing at her husband's cheeky smile; and Shao Yan noticed that when this man laughed, a small dimple would appear on each side of his cheek.
"So, Shao Yan, right?" Axel suddenly turned his face to look at Shao Yan.
She gave a small nod while still munching on her preserved egg.
"I have to apologize for taking a lot of your time when Daniel had to work overtime with me in the office," and he gave her a smile again, "the project that we are working on is so close to the finishing line. So, he will be yours again very soon."
Shao Yan waved one hand in his direction, "Don't mention it. Just happens that it is almost the new year so I am busy with my own work as well. It is fine," she said sheepishly. The man was so polite on their first meeting, unlike his bubbly wife. Shao Yan felt a little awkward.
Li Xiqing glanced to the side, and pursed his lips looking at Shao Yan and her awkward self; and decided to change the topic.
"So how was your flight, Sis?"

Mandy was initially concentrating on eating her breakfast while reminiscing on the past.
Growing up, it had always been the two of them taking care of each other while their parents were busy saving lives as doctors.
It used to be Mandy who did all the cooking, and Daniel would be in charge of cleaning the house.
'Time indeed changes a man. With a wife now, he has become so mature,' Mandy was thinking to herself.
She raised her delicate chin when she heard Li Xiqing ask her a question.
With her chopsticks, she picked up the pickled cucumbers and put them in her bowl.
"It was fine. Luckily there was no delay so I arrived in the afternoon. And then I took a nap," she paused to think for a while.
"I think I drove out to pick up some dinner for both of us last night. I have been craving some chicken and duck blood soup," and then she said animatedly, "you still remember that dish, right? Their stall is still around, surprisingly!"
