Chapter 191: Childhood




The three ladies slowly looked at the menu while deciding on what to eat and drink.

"Shall we do family style?" Mandy started to say, "We can order a few dishes and share them. That way, we can try more food here." She looked up from the menu and looked at Feifei and Shao Yan, "What do you say?"

Feifei nodded at her suggestion, and then she glanced at Shao Yan who was also nodding before she said, "Sure, Sis, that's a good idea."

After a moment later, the server came back to their table to take their order.

Mandy took the lead and said, "We will start with Iberico ham croquette and also chicken and beef Cannelloni with black truffle."

She looked up from the menu and addressed the server, "We will order several dishes for the main course," and then Mandy turned to look at Feifei and Shao Yan, "do you want to order drinks?"

Both Feifei and Shao Yan shook their heads. Shao Yan started to explain, "I still have work tomorrow, so I don't feel like drinking alcohol tonight."

Mandy returned her gaze to the server, "Okay, so for the main course, we will order Smoked and grilled baby octopus with aioli, Lobster roll, and also the Seafood paella."

She closed the menu book, and handed it back to the server, "That's all for now."

When the server left their table, Shao Yan, with her eyes full of surprise, started to say, "Sis, it's only the three of us," and then she started to chuckle, "don't you think the food is too much?"

Mandy was sipping on her water, and started to wave at her, "Don't worry. If we can't eat them, we'll bring them back so the boys can have some midnight snacks."

And with that, the discussion was closed. Shao Yan felt amused.

'I guess, Li Xiqing will have a lot of midnight snacks tonight, then,' Shao Yan started to imagine how he would react when he saw all the leftovers that they brought back later.

"So, Sis, how long will you be staying here?" Shao Yan started to have small talks to get to know Mandy better.

"Maybe until February. Yufeng told me that their project will be done soon. They should be finalizing the buyout in the next few weeks, so we are planning to stay until Chinese New Year."

And then Mandy turned to Feifei, "Yufeng is my husband."

Feifei nodded with her mouth forming the letter "O" and then she asked, "Where did you come from, Sis?"

"Germany," Mandy answered, "I am staying there with my husband and his family in Frankfurt."

"Wow!" Feifei exclaimed, "That is so cool. So you can speak the language?"

Mandy nodded, "Of course. It was not easy when I moved there, I had to carry a small dictionary and folded map everywhere I went, but it is very convenient with mobile phones nowadays," she grinned.

"Sis, do you have any embarrassing childhood stories that you can tell us?"

In the middle of their intimate dinner, Shao Yan finally had the courage to ask the one question that she had been curious for.

Mandy burst out in chuckles, "Well, let me think," and then she paused for a while.

The fork and knife in her hands were moving together to work on the grilled lobster on her plate.

"I remember it was his elementary school, I think," she started to say, "he should be around ten years old?"

And then tiny giggles escaped from her lips as she remembered, "He..He.. One day, Xiqing came home from school, his face was as black as the bottom of a burned pot."

Mandy paused, "He looked so tired and he was carrying his backpack with one hand, and I noticed that the other handle was ripped off."

"So I asked him what had happened. Xiqing looked at me and said," and then Mandy cleared her throat, and started to say in a deep, masculine voice, "I don't understand girls. You don't like chocolate, Sis, and Mom also doesn't like chocolate, so why did those girls have to chase me around and insist on giving me chocolate today?"

Mandy laughed, "Haha! That day was Valentine's day. So what happened was, he was chased all around the school by his classmates, because they wanted to give him chocolates," still laughing joyfully, she continued, "and Xiqing had to run all around the school to avoid them. Haha! But they caught up, and even tore his bag."

Shao Yan started to imagine Li Xiqing in a very much younger version. She could see his pouting face, irritated from being chased around. Slowly, Shao Yan giggled along with Mandy.

"Wow, even from a young child, he had been a lady killer, huh!" Feifei exclaimed, before also bursting out in laughter with them.

Mandy wiped the corner of her eyes from laughing too much, "And so that's why he somehow promised that he would not ever fall in love, because according to his words, 'It's complicated, Sis', he said."

And then Mandy burst in chuckles again, "But look at him now, henpecked so silly by this woman here," and then she leaned forward to pat Shao Yan by her hand, "good job, Yan Yan."

Dinner was almost over, when the server came over to ask if they wanted to order some desserts.

Shao Yan looked at the empty plates on the table that somehow, the three of them had managed to eat them all. While they ate and chatted, they slowly started to polish all of the food.

Mandy used the napkin to slowly dabbed on her lips and then she shook her head, and looked at Feifei and Shao Yan, "I am too full right now, but can have some hot chocolate. What would you like to order?"

Shao Yan shook her head as well, and looked up at the server, "Just give me hot lemon tea, no sugar, please."

Feifei also chimed in, "Make it two, please. Thank you."

The server nodded and quickly noted down their orders and then walked away.

Mandy slowly leaned back to her seat, "So, Yan Yan, I see that Xiqing finally gave you the cherub necklace," Mandy pointed in her direction.

Shao Yan unconsciously raised one hand, and played around with the cherub necklace around her neck.

"Did Xiqing tell you the story about the necklace?"
