Zhong Yu squinted his eyes at his best friend's remarks, "I don't think that's a nice word to say considering she is your ex-wife now." Zhong Yu had purposely stressed the tone when he mentioned 'ex-wife' to Liwei.

Liwei snickered at him before he raised his wine to take another sip, "Just admit it, my friend, I have known all along that you have been in love with Yan Yan."

Liwei raised one hand and patted Zhong Yu on his chest, "You had lost a step before, and now you lost another step to another guy. When are you going to wake up and stop dreaming?" And then he chuckled, "Did you not feel ashamed of yourself for lusting over your best friend's wife, huh?"

Zhong Yu tried to hold in his emotion from Liwei's insult.

He stayed in silence for a while, before he commented, "Yeah, but you also lost a chance that you had given before, too. So, be polite and don't talk about her that way considering that you have your own wife now."

Liwei felt sour after being jabbed by his own best friend. He clicked his tongue as he chuckled in bitterness. He did not have any good comeback, because what Zhong Yu said was the truth.

He did lose his chance, and he did have another wife now.

Liwei kept sipping his wine as his mind went through what could have gone wrong in their relationship.

.....

"You said you knew all along about my feelings towards Shao Yan?"

After a long moment of silence, Zhong Yu decided to speak up.

"So that means, you knew I wrote those letters for her? And yet, you still took them from me?" He turned his body to the side to now stand in front of him face to face.

Liwei gulped down the remaining wine in his glass, before he put it down to the table next to him. He slowly took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his fingers one by one; biding his time to answer.

"Yes, I knew all along," Liwei nodded his head calmly, "when we first saw her in the cafeteria, I knew you were looking at her direction, but at the time, I thought you were looking at Feifei since she is Lu Qian's sister after all."

"I had seen the letters that you had been writing on your desk. You always started them as 'To the beautiful you' so I knew that you were in love with someone. I immediately assumed it was Feifei."

"However, the several meetings after that, I noticed how you would turn mute whenever Yan Yan was around. So I started to grow suspicious. That maybe I was wrong. Maybe it was not Feifei, maybe it was Yan Yan."

Liwei put both hands inside his pants pocket and looked down at his own leather shoes, "And then I remember, when I told you that Yan Yan had agreed to go out with me, you disappeared the whole night and only came back the next day."

He raised his head and looked into the distance in front of him, "And a few days after that, I found out from others that you had been playing basketball all night long, trying to exhaust yourself. So I got my confirmation about your feelings towards Yan Yan."

Liwei turned to the side to stare at Zhong Yu directly, "But what else can I do? I fell in love with her, too, and she had agreed to be with me. I had to be the selfish one here."

"I started to read through all of your love letters again and the more I read them, the more I was convinced that the letters were indeed for Yan Yan," he chuckled to himself.

"I was like an idiot, sitting at your desk, feeling all jealous from reading those letters. You wrote them so well, I even falsely thought the two of you had known each other for a while."

Liwei stretched out both hands and pointed to himself, "Look at me. I have always been a number guy, the engineer in the room, I am not a romantic guy and you know that. Yan Yan had always been reserved with me, and I needed to improve our relationship, so yes, I stole those letters from you."

Zhong Yu was about to say something, but Liwei quickly cut him off, "But don't blame me on this, old friend, if you need to blame someone, then it's yourself for not having the guts to send those letters directly to her."

.....

Zhong Yu was speechless at these revelations.

He had never imagined that his own best friend would stab him in the back like this.

When he noticed that his letters had gone missing, Zhong Yu had thought that maybe he had misplaced them. He turned their dormitory room upside down, but he still could not find the letters.

Liwei came into the room a while later and saw a frantic Zhong Yu was flipping through all the books on the floor.

When he told him about the letters, Zhong Yu still remembered the look on Liwei's face, all innocent, he looked up at him and said, "Oh? Those letters are yours? I found them with a pile of newspapers and I thought those were no one's. So, I took them for myself, and I gave them to Yan Yan," and then Liwei raised both thumbs up towards Zhong Yu, and continued proudly, "now she was more in love with me, thanks to you, man!"

.....

Liwei suddenly chimed in, and broke Zhong Yu out of his train of thoughts, "But if you want to feel any better, hey, look at us now. She left me, and she got herself a new man."

Zhong Yu felt sick the more he listened to Liwei, he wanted to leave so he just absentmindedly replied to him, "Yeah, you left her first, and you got yourself another woman. Don't say it as if she was the one at fault here. We both know it was not hers at all," Zhong Yu said as he massaged his temple.

Liwei laughed out loud immediately, "Hey, living a life with her was not that all exciting, okay? She was all plain and dull, don't blame me for wanting to look for a more colorful life!"

All of a sudden, a sound of a crash was heard and all the heads turned around to see where the sound came from.

The guests saw that a man had crashed onto a table, and landed on his side and now was laying on the ground.
