Chapter 210 - Explanation to the Concerned Parties

Explanation to the Concerned Parties

“I’m back in the capital!”

It was an unrelated shout, but it felt fitting for the situation, so I didn’t pay it any mind.

After teleporting from the room where Sara and the others were, I returned to the mansion in the human world’s capital. I had enough composure to make such a small joke.

Though it had been less than half a month since I left the human world, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. This place seemed to be becoming a special one for me, enough to evoke such emotions.

Naturally, no one in the mansion noticed my shout and the servants who heard the commotion came to gather around.

“Rolando-sama!”

“Where have you been?”

“We were worried!”

Listening to the voices of the servants, I thought about how to explain the situation in the future. Then, Sobas appeared, for some reason kneeling down and prostrating himself before me.

“Rolando-sama, I’m so glad you’re safe.”

“You’re being overly dramatic. Well, for now, I’m back alive.”

“May I inquire about what happened?”

“Before that, it seems I’ll have a big task for you all. Gather everyone in the dining hall.”

Upon hearing my words, the servants present gleamed with anticipation. While I had entrusted them mainly with managing the mansion, some among them held titles as former servants of noble families.

As very few guests came to me, and I hadn’t asked them for any work until now, they might have struggled to maintain their motivation.

In this unusual situation, I had finally asked for their assistance. There should be no servants who wouldn’t feel motivated now.

“Understood. I’ll gather everyone right away.”

Sobas, who seemed unusually motivated, quickly left. I wondered just how eager they were for work…

After a while, all the servants were assembled in the dining hall. Those who had heard I was safe shed tears of joy, making me feel somewhat awkward. However, this wasn’t the time to celebrate our reunion. It was time to get to the main point.

“I’m sorry for your joy, but I have a big task for all of you.”

“As you mentioned earlier, what is the nature of this task?”

“In reality, I can’t go into detail, but I will be hosting two princesses from a certain nation here at my mansion. It’s going to be a somewhat tricky situation. I plan to shelter them until things cool down. Of course, they’ll be accompanied by their own maid, but I want you all to take care of them. Will you do it?”

“!? Ah, I’m truly blessed to serve this noble! Thank the gods for bringing us together!”

As I explained the situation, Sobas knelt down and raised his hands in a prayer-like gesture, shouting incomprehensible words toward the heavens. The other servants seemed equally excited about this sudden, significant task.

“I forgot to mention one thing. The country I mentioned is a demon realm, and, naturally, the princess is the daughter of a Demon Lord. Is that okay with all of you?”

“…”

Upon hearing this, the excited servants fell silent as one might expect. It was a reasonable reaction.

For humans, the existence of the demon race represented past enemies who had once invaded to conquer them. Demonkind was feared and revered as a subject of awe. The daughter of the Demon Lord coming here would make even regular humans want to run away, let alone these servants.

“Don’t worry. Those folks are not the kind of demons you’re thinking of. If anything happens, I’ll massacre them all… hehehe.”

“What? Right now, it seems like Rolando-sama is scarier than the demons…”

It seemed that I had successfully shifted their fear from demons to myself. It wasn’t intentional, but it often happened that things generally considered frightening turned out to be less so.

“Anyway, that’s all for now. I’m going to explain the situation to the king as well. I’ll ask him to prepare for their arrival.”

“Understood.”

With that, I concluded my explanation to the servants. Now, I needed to explain the situation to the king, but I realized it would be troublesome to explain everything to him alone. So, I decided to summon the Prime Minister, Varaseth, and the Commander of the Royal Knights, Hannibal, as well.

“Before that, there’s some bad news. The situation is quite delicate, so it’s better to have the Prime Minister and Hannibal here. Do you have anyone there?”

“…Is that so? Understood. Is anyone there?”

“Right here.”

“Please summon Prime Minister Varaseth and Commander Hannibal immediately. It’s urgent.”

“As you wish.”

Following the king’s orders, the Royal Knight guarding the door quickly left. He glanced briefly in my direction but left the room as if nothing had happened. Perhaps he was curious about my presence. Most likely, he would be discussing it with his fellow knights outside.

After a while, Varaseth and Hannibal arrived. They also expressed their joy at my safe return. After brief greetings, I began to explain the situation.

“Actually, I went all the way here and there. That’s how it happened.”

“”No, I don’t understand!!””

“Huh? What do you mean, Master? You’re saying that to stop another possible invasion by the demons, you’ve agreed to shelter the Demon Lord’s daughters for a time?”

“”And why is it that you understand all this, Hannibal?””

It was meant as a joke to lighten the mood, but for some reason, only Hannibal seemed to have grasped the situation entirely. His quick comprehension led to all of us poking fun at him.

With that said, I explained everything more clearly to them both, and they finally understood the gravity of the situation.

“I can’t believe something like this is happening in the demon-controlled territory…”

“We need to gather the key nobles immediately for a strategy meeting.”

“We should also prepare our defenses in case the demons decide to attack.”

In response to my explanation, the king, Varaseth, and Hannibal each had their own reactions. While it wasn’t confirmed that the demons would attack, being overly optimistic wouldn’t prepare us for the worst-case scenario. These three understood that, and it was quite commendable.

“For now, I understand that you’ve grasped the possibility of the demons attacking. However, I don’t see how that connects to you hosting the Demon Lord’s daughters.”

“Well, there are various reasons for it. To put it simply, it’s a matter of circumstances.”

My response seemed to leave the king somewhat unsatisfied, given his questioning look. But what else could I say? How would you explain the situation I found myself in without using the term ‘circumstances’?

I had rescued a girl who was being attacked by monsters and, upon delivering her to the Demon Lord’s city, discovered that she was the third princess and that her situation involved a plea to help resolve her second sister’s scheme. How else could I describe this situation to an outsider without using the term ‘circumstances’? That was the point I wanted to press with the king.

Nevertheless, I explained to the three of them the possibility of the demons launching another attack, the fact that this incident was not the result of a Demon Lord-led invasion but rather the independent action of the second princess and that I would be hosting the two princesses until things settled down.

While it was an incredibly unbelievable and outlandish story, given that it was coming from me, the three of them believed it readily enough.

“Anyway, I’m going back to the Demon World to fetch the two of them. There’s no need for you, the king, to do anything special. Just be prepared in case the demons show up.”

“Understood. We’ll leave it to you.”

With our explanations concluded, I bid them a brief farewell and then used teleportation to leave the room. Upon returning to the mansion, I found the servants busily preparing for the arrival of the princesses.

“Sobas, how are the preparations going?”

“For now, we’re ready to welcome them.”

“Alright, I’ll bring them over shortly. Is that okay?”

“Please wait a moment. I’ll gather the servants to receive them properly.”

A few minutes later, all the servants had assembled. With that, I used teleportation to return to the Demon World to fetch the two princesses.
