Chapter 211 - "Confession"

“Confession”

“Sorry to keep you waiting. I’ve settled everything. I’m going to temporarily shelter you in my house now. Are you both ready?”

“Yes, I’m ready.”

“I’d like to return to my room and prepare.”

Upon hearing their responses, I realized that I had told them to wait here… Sanya probably had her preparations in her room, but Sara might not be as prepared.

Regretting my haste and the oversight, I decided to go to Sara’s room to help her pack her things.

Just to be safe, since I wasn’t sure if there would be another attack by the second princess during this short time, I asked Sanya and her attendant Tillis to accompany me to Sara’s room.

“I will go make preparations, so please wait a moment.”

“Take your time; there’s no need to rush.”

With that said, I went ahead and escorted Sara back to her room. In the meantime, Sanya and Tillis waited in the adjacent room.

The room was well-appointed with basic furniture and furnishings, more than sufficient for a brief stay. However, simply waiting felt like time was passing slowly.

“Rolando-sama, how did you meet Sara?”

“Hmm? I happened to come across her when she was being attacked by monsters. I just happened to rescue her.”

“Is that so? She was fortunate to meet you.”

A brief silence fell after that, but soon, Sanya initiated another conversation. She asked about various topics, like what kind of place we were going to and what I usually did.

Come to think of it, I realized I hadn’t mentioned to her that I was human. However, at this point, it might be a good idea to reveal it to her.

“By the way, there’s something I haven’t told you yet, Sara’s sister—”

“Oh, how long are you going to keep calling me that!? Please use my name!”

“Alright, Sanya. There’s something I haven’t told you yet, but I think it’s time.”

“…Is it okay to talk about it here?”

I responded to Sanya’s question with an assurance that it was fine. In any case, when I brought Sara and the others to the human world, it would become evident that I was not a demon. So, it seemed better to tell them now.

Preparing them in advance might be better than surprising them later. Moreover, knowing that we were going to the human world could open up other options. If that happened, we could consider alternative solutions.

“Right. In fact, Sanya, it’s something you and the others should know as well. Also, I haven’t told Teria yet. After Sara and the others finish their preparations, I’ll explain it to everyone.”

Then, after Sara and the others finished their preparations and took their seats on the sofa as I had requested, I began to speak.

“Before inviting them to my house, there is something I must say to the three of you other than Sara.”

“That’s what you said earlier. What is it about?”

“Actually, I’m not a demon; I’m a human.”

“Huh?”

None of the others expected such a confession, and their expressions showed their astonishment. To make it clearer for them, I dispelled the transformation magic I had been using.

“This is my true form. So, Sanya, and the others, now that you know we’re heading to my house in the human world, what would you like to do?”

“Well, even if you ask us…”

Suddenly confronted with this, all three of them seemed puzzled. Just as humans generally had a dislike for demons, demons also didn’t have a favorable impression of humans. This stems from a historical war between the two races, a conflict that still lingered even after hundreds of years.

This was why their confusion was entirely understandable. In fact, there was a possibility they might get angry at me for not revealing my true identity until now.

However, because they hadn’t experienced that war themselves, they held somewhat less bias against humans than the Seven Demon Generals and other demons who had been through it. But they had heard various things about humans from those around them, so they harbored skeptical feelings toward humans.

“To be honest, I’m quite perplexed. I’m grateful for what you did for Sara, but…”

“Me too.”

“I apologize, but I feel the same.”

“Well, should we reconsider coming to my house? I do have human servants.”

While it was indeed an ideal place for the two of them to hide from the second princess, given the racial issues at hand, bringing them to my house might have been a hasty decision.

Discrimination based on race was still deeply ingrained in the world, and it wasn’t a problem that could be easily solved. Even in my previous life, such thoughts persisted, and it was evident that tensions between humans and demons due to their differences still existed.

However, if that were the case, I would need to find another place to hide them. As I pondered this, Sanya spoke up.

“No, if it weren’t for this situation, I would never have had the chance to interact with humans. I think it’s a good opportunity, so I’d like to accept your offer and stay.”

“There might be a possibility that you’ll have a hard time. Are you sure you’re okay with that?”

“I’ve made up my mind.”

Sanya’s words seemed to have resolved both Teria and Tillis, as they wore determined expressions. As for Sara, she had already known that I was human from the beginning, and she was aware that my house was in the human world, so she simply watched our interactions with a blank expression.

Perhaps annoyed by this, Sanya asked, “Sara knew, right?” To this, Sara responded with an unconcerned, “Yes, I knew.”

“Why didn’t you tell us?”

“I had an agreement with Rolando-san not to reveal his true identity.”

“Mmm…”

With the agreement I had made with her mentioned, Sanya couldn’t argue any further. Still, it seemed she couldn’t let go of being the only one who knew.

“Well then, now that preparations are complete, shall we go to the human world this time?”

“Yes, please.”

“Please.”

When I addressed them this way, they nodded with nervous expressions. With their responses, I used teleportation. The scenery immediately changed, and when I realized it, we were standing in front of the mansion in the royal capital. Sara and the others had safely teleported with me. However…

“Welcome! Welcome to Adventurer Rolando’s mansion!!”

At that moment, we were greeted by an enthusiastic welcome from all the servants… Perhaps they went a little too far with it.
