Amber wasn’t fazed at all by his glare.

Unlike her previous altercations, the calm she felt at the moment didn’t come from experience from her previous life. Back then, she rarely had the opportunity to meet the knights, and even when she did, their gazes would be that of caution.

It was because she knew very well what the knights that serve Thales were like that she was able to remain calm.

Amber remembered every battle the knights fought in order to protect the Eastern Lands.

No matter how elite, there were still casualties every year. Every year, Amber compiled the list of casualties and informed their family members of their death.

It was impossible to find the bodies of the deceased in the battlefield, and since there was so little in terms of money, there was nothing Amber could do for the bereaved families.

Though Amber didn’t personally involve herself in the process, she saw many of those who lived in the castle go through the horrifying ordeal.

Amber knew how terrible the environment of the battlefields were, how hard the bread they ate were, how long they had to leave their families, how many who died in battle.

Though she resented her husband who constantly left the Eastern Lands, she never once resented the knights by association. She knew how much they risked to fight, after all.

‘Though I started to hate anything and everything after the drought worsened and the territory couldn’t survive.’ But no one could blame Amber for that. And now it was simply a past left behind.

Amber promised that she wouldn’t keep fixating on the past and would focus on the present laid out in front of her.

In her current life, the knights had not even ventured into their first battle yet, and the food crisis could be fixed.

“I understand that you are all going to walk down a difficult path.”

“I understand that you are all going to walk a difficult path.” Amber opened her mouth. “Though they say that the wave of monsters is small this year, a battle is still a battle. I am sure there are many among you who are vexed that the schedule has been delayed because of me and how there has been a change in command.”

A number of knights visibly flinched at Amber’s words. They clearly did not expect her to speak so bluntly about the situation.

“I know very well that you fight in terrible environments with all your might to make sure this land is protected.”

The knights tightened their grips on their old, worn spears.

“I won’t say that I’m thankful or that I believe in your continued victories. Even if I am the lady of the castle, it’s only been a day since I arrived. How could I possibly say such things?” Though Amber was honest in her sincerity, the knights would simply see her words as pretty lies. “The way I see it, the only thing I can do for you all is to promise you that the castle and the territory will become a better place to live in while you all fight.”

Amber was determined to do so. And she hoped that her promise would make those traveling to dangerous places feel even slightly relieved.

“While you fight, I shall do my best to take care of the Eastern Lands. So if you have even the smallest complaint, speak them now before you go.”

The expressions on the knights changed.

Amber’s orange eyes that burned calmly like fire were enough to make them understand that Amber meant what she said.

Though she was an outsider that didn’t know of the Eastern Lands, strangely, the knights felt that she knew everything.

It was a fascinating and strange experience to have a civilian understand what it was like to go out to battle to protect others. It was even more so after having heard Bella’s inconsiderate words of encouragement.
