After the conference ends, pg leaves one after another.

Jing Yu is also caught by Luo Yiming who drags him back to the Training Room. Clearly, he hasn’t given up on sticking to Jing Yu in a tag-team, or a triple-team.

Fang Luofan remains in the Conference Room, not leaving.

Similarly, Qin Fei also doesn’t leave.

Seeing as if Qin Fei is not leaving, Fang Luofan, who is sorting out the data, suspiciously raises his brows: “What is it?”

“What do you think of him?” Qin Fei inquires.

“I’ve never seen him play, so it’s hard to say.” Then, as if remembering something, his expression morphs into one of exasperation. “Initially, I’d planned to say something to comfort him, not wanting him to be too anxious before the match. Now, in contrast, I actually wish he’ll be more nervous about it. Afterall, the opponent’s Ane, one of the Top 8.”

“We are also one of the Top 8.” Qin Fei nonchalantly replies.

“En. A Top 8 that was crushed by Ane and handed them a 0-2 score.” Fang Luofan’s gaze sharpens into a glare for a second. “Don’t think that just because you changed a member, you can relax. You guys only played a couple of rounds……”

“One round.” Qin Fei corrects, “We only played together in one round of Standard.”

“You win. ” Fang Luofan really doesn’t know where to begin reproaching Qin Fei.

“Actually, I still thought you might be angry.” Qin Fei relaxes into the chair, eyes averted from Fang Luofan. Visibly, at this moment, he doesn’t really dare to face him, “I handed the task of finding teammates to you, but the people you painstakingly dug out were all chased away by me. Amongst them, there were even players from mY and KID, these strong teams. However, in the end, the guy I picked is someone who hasn’t even stepped into the pro-gamer circle.”

“Oh? So you also know it’s exhausting to dig out all these people?”

Regarding this matter, Fang Luofan has already lost all ability to be mad:

“In fact, I want to be mad, but what will that accomplish? If they’re unsuitable then they’re unsuitable. If there’s really someone who can fill in pg’s holes, let alone a normal player, I’ll even welcome a beggar with open arms.”

Pausing shortly, and seeing as if Qin Fei isn’t responding, Fang Luofan ventures: “Actually, my original plan is to have any solo-laner I find live with you guys for a trial period. Who knows? They might be able to keep up after that ne?”

“How can it be that easy?” This time, Qin Fei replies, “If the player you found is a normal player, we can still try. But pro-gamers? If they can’t keep up within five matches, just forget about it.”

Fang Luofan understands what Qin Fei means. For pro-gamers who have received training, they have mostly established their game play and awareness, which are very hard to change. If they’re unable to keep up within five rounds, it’s likely they’ll take one year, two years, perhaps even longer to adjust. Yet, the next PGL is right before their eyes.

Demon Lord this game was released late, but thankfully, it arrived just in time to enjoy the global hype surrounding MOBA* games. Through its exquisite graphics and modelling, as well as all-encompassing characters and game moves brimming with artistry, Demon Lord was able to set itself apart from the sea of MOBA games, causing it to receive attention worldwide.

(*MOBA: Multilayer Online Battle Arena games)

Demon Lord has had tournaments for some time now, but it’s only three years ago that the game developers launched the first PGL in China. Following that, with the passing of a tournament each year, more pro-gamers team were established and stabilised one after the other.

–Until three months ago, in order to give more players a chance to exhibit their skills, the game officials increased the frequency of the PGL, switching it up from an annual to seasonal tournament.

You might say, there are now more championships, so the champion cups are less valuable, and people aren’t as attracted to them?

No. Nobody in the e-sports circle thinks this way.

That’s because, every pro-gamer team is clearly aware. The fact that the game officials are making such arrangements, it means it won’t be long before the Demon Lord International Championship is opened!

As for the ones who can join the International Championship, they naturally will have to be the first of their nation.

“I want to win.” Qin Fei gives Fang Luofan these four words, then evenly adds, “Not just the local championship. But the local championship is the first step.”

Fang Luofan stills. Even if he wasn’t a pro-gamer in the past, he’ll still be impassioned by Qin Fei’s declaration. The blood surges heatedly in his veins.

Afterall, this was once his dream too.

And now, pg‘s dream is precisely his dream.

“Will the next PGL be emcee-ed by you too?” Out of nowhere, Qin Fei throws him this curveball.

Fang Luofan follows his words with some difficulty, nodding: “Why? What’s wrong?”

“Is the salary pg‘s paying you not enough?” Qin Fei furrows his brows. “How about we double it?”

“Get out of here. Is laozi** the type of person to be swayed by money?” Fang Luofan doesn’t want to speak to this local tycoon, “I can’t play the game, so can’t I emcee a bit?”

(**laozi 老子: like ‘your daddy’ kind of feeling)

Saying this, he rises to his feet and pushes Qin Fei towards the door, “It’s almost 2pm. While you’ve still got the time, go foster some feelings with your new teammate.”

“Foster feelings your sis……” Qin Fei is unable to hold up against Fang Luofan’s sudden shove and stumbles out of the conference room, “2pm! Just watch us press Ane into the floor and grind them in!”

“So long as it’s not you guys who’re pressed into the floor!”

“Yi, don’t jinx us!”

Fang Luofan finally manages to kick Qin Fei out. However, he doesn’t leave even after some time. Instead, walking over to the window, he opens it to let the air out and casually lights a smoke.

KID……

Hearing this team’s name from Qin Fei, there is still a pang of hurt. Afterall, this was his original team, but when he’d been hospitalized, they heartlessly abandoned him, not giving one line of comfort or ounce of sympathy.

Maybe it’s because he was vengeful. When he joined pg, promising Qin Fei to dig for talent, the first team he had his eye on was KID. Then, he’d very easily dug out Luo Yiming from KID.

Why was it so easy? That’s because KID didn’t remotely have Luo Yiming in their eyes.

That’s why it was also not very satisfying ah…… He didn’t even get to enjoy the thrill of digging others’ talents and cornering them.

In the last PGL, Fang Luofan still carried hopes of leading pg to grind KID into the floor, yet, it was KID who turned around and ground them in instead. In the end, pg was ranked bottom lowest of the Top 8, and KID overwhelmingly won the tournament.

In the next PGL, will pg have any hope of winning?

Perhaps this afternoon’s match will give him his answer.

As this is an online practice match, when it’s time, all they have to do is enter Demon Lord and enter the game session as a team.

The game session is opened by Ane‘s side. They quickly forward the session code and password over.

After forming the team, pg’s four people, as well as Jing Yu, enters the game session opened by Ane.

With both sides having completed these steps, they advance into the Ban & Pick session.

Ban & Pick session — This is available only when both parties meet a certain rank. PGL is precisely all held in Ban & Pick style.

However, in Standard mode, each team can only ban two demons, adding up to four, whereas in PGL, each side bans three, totalling six.

In other words, in order to play in PGL, one’s card pool must have a certain amount of depth.

Right now, they’re playing with Ane precisely using the PGL’s style. Both sides must ban three demons.

This is a first for Jing Yu. For a second, he relishes in the feeling. It’s like he’s a pro-gamer already.

However, without letting him fully soak in this thought, the other side sends a message.

【Enemy】Ane-hI : Your new jungler’s ID is quite unique ah?

Jing Yu blanks out, staring at his team’s ID. Within the rows of pg-XXX, there is a ‘Gold Fish not Salted Fish’ sandwiched between it. Truly unique.

【Team】Gold Fish not Salted Fish: Huan hei, thank you for the compliment~

Seeing Jing Yu’s reply, Luo Yiming who was just preparing to reply can’t help but break into a laugh: “Hahaha! Jing Yu, you’re not modest in the least!”

“Of course not~” Jing Yu sings without thinking.

Hearing these words, Ye Hong and Han Leng who are seated next to Luo Yiming exchange a look, both feeling somewhat shocked.

Why do they feel that, when Jing Yu starts playing, he becomes a different person entirely? Like that usually mild and gentle-natured Jing Yu has completely disappeared, becoming full of confidence and also…… a bit devious?

Suddenly, there’s a feeling of tiny white bunny turning around and becoming a vixen. What’s exactly happening?

“Focus.” Ears prickling at the Fang Luofan’s somewhat cold voice behind them, the few people who were about to drift off quickly set their attention back on their monitors.

The first ban spot is allocated to Ane by the system. Ane unhesitatingly bans Ye Hong’s Nine-Tailed Demon Fox.

“I knew it.” Ye Hong says, upset and helpless, “Will it kill you to let me play my first lifeline once?”

“Hahaha! ” Luo Yiming heartlessly laughs. “If your first lifeline comes to your hands, the one who’ll be dying is them!”

As he’s saying this, Qin Fei has already banned Camael*. This is the enemy marksman’s commonly used demon, and Luo Yiming doesn’t really use it.

(*Camael 卡麦尔: Archangel of strength, courage and war in Christian and Jewish Methodology.)

(#For easy memory, all Images will be linked to Character Names.)

When it’s Ane‘s turn to ban demons again, once more, they unhesitatingly ban Dark Cupid*.

(*Dark Cupid: 暗黑丘比特: wields a gun instead of a bow)

“Fuck!” Luo Yiming immediately cusses, “Will it kill them to let me play my first lifeline once?!”

Ye Hong who has said this exact line yet was mocked naturally will not turn down the opportunity to roast: “Accept your fate. This 4th PGL, don’t even think about using this demon.”

“Though, they’re actually not banning the jungler?” Han Leng is a little suspicious.

In the last PGL, amongst all demons Qin Fei regularly used, at least two were kept on the banned list and never let down. The third ban slot was then given to Ye Hong’s Nine-Tailed Demon Fox.

Luo Yiming’s Dark Cupid got the ban slot too. But since the frequency wasn’t high, it’s natural for him to be disgruntled today.

At this moment, Fang Luofan finally opens his mouth and says: “Ban Jinghua Shuiyue*.”

(*Jinghua Shuiyue 镜花水月: (Jap) Kyouka Suigetsu. (Eng) ‘Flowers in the Mirror, Moon reflected by Waters’. Doesn’t feel right to use the former in a Chinese translated novel, and the later during the game so I shall use the Phonics)

Jinghua Shuiyue is a control-type support. Her control range is so wide, just her presence on the battlefield is able to make one asphyxiate. Yet, the enemy Support’s best demon is precisely Jinghua Shuiyue.

The enemy Support is troublesome indeed. Ye Hong instantly follows the command to ban Jinghua Shuiyue.

Following that, Ane unwavering bans Qin Fei’s regularly used Satan.

With the full picture revealed, at this point, Ane‘s intentions are clear.

“Don’t want to let us go on the offense ah,” Qin Fei sneers, “We’ll make you agonize too. Ban Merman**.”

(**Merman 人鱼: Riri used ‘Triton’, who is the Greek God of the Sea. But for easy memory as well as to avoid confusion with ‘Chiron’ , I shall be using Merman)

“Ah?” Having been chosen by the system to ban, Han Leng, who is just about to ban a demon, startles, “Again with the support? We’re banning two of the enemy support’s demons?”

“Didn’t we agree the support’s the trickiest to deal with?” Qin Fei doesn’t budge.

“But why ban Merman? Why not ban Sariel*?”

(*Sariel 沙利叶: One of the seven angels that have existed since the beginning of time. Invoked for his Protective powers)

Both are demons with Shields, but Merman only has Shield, whereas Sariel has both Shield and Heal. No matter how you think about it, Sariel is obviously stronger.

Yet, Qin Fei’s next line is: “Ban Merman. Snatch Sariel for yourself.”

This is clearly a strategy targetting the Support ah……

Han Leng does not hesitate: “Alrighty then~” And bans Merman.

“I say……” At this moment, Jing Yu, who has been holding himself back, finally can’t keep it in anymore, “The Support doesn’t matter ba! They get to Pick first anyways. Shouldn’t we ban more OP* demons?”

(*OP: Naturally, overpowered)

Qin Fei disagrees: “The enemy support is a very tricky opponent — Coach’s the one who said so.”

Said Coach Fang Luofan who is standing behind these five people raises his hand to his face and declines to comment — I only wanted you guys to ban Jinghua Shuiyue, who told you ban Merman and snatch Sariel?!

If the enemy support really is so OP, what’s the purpose of the enemy marksman?!

However, since this is a mock match, he doesn’t want to interfere too much with their decisions. He’ll wait for the review session at the end to speak.

Whilst they were disputing, Ane has already started to pick demons. Without a moment’s pause, they lock Centaur** — an OP marksman!

(**Centaur 人马: Riri translated this as Chiron, which is the more appropriate name. That is the “wisest and justest of all centaurs” famous for his wisdom and medical knowledge. However, for easy memory and to avoid confusion with Triton, I will use Centaur)

As for pg? Without missing a beat, they enthusiastically lock Sariel — a Support!
