As they woke up, it was already evening, Li Xi rubbed his eyes and sat up from the bed, asking, “What time is it?”

In the depths of the sea, it was almost always the same, even though he had turned into a merman, he was not clear on how they distinguished time.

Duan Zhen shook his head and looked outside the shell, “They seem not to have returned yet.”

Li Xi exclaimed softly, “Then it should still be early, but it feels like we’ve slept for several hours.”

He had slept too deeply, almost thinking it was already the next morning.

“Probably around four hours or so,” Duan Zhen said after a moment of silence.

“How did you figure that out?” Li Xi asked curiously.

“Not by calculation, just a feeling,” Duan Zhen turned to look at him, “They’ve been gone so long, something might have happened.”

Li Xi responded coldly, “If something happened, it’s their own problem.”

At the next moment, he realized his demeanor was too indifferent, and then explained softly, “Although we’re teammates, they’ve always been too much, treating you as free labor. I don’t believe they would wholeheartedly search for offerings, they might be slacking off somewhere.”

What he said was indeed possible, Duan Zhen sighed helplessly, “I’ll go out and take a look.”

“I’ll come with you,” Li Xi held him back.

Despite being annoyed by those people, he couldn’t let Duan Zhen go into the sea alone. Duan Zhen was indeed strong, but he was also a human at a disadvantage in the water, Li Xi simply couldn’t let him go alone.

Especially when this task involved the gods.

He pursed his lips and said firmly, “Let’s go straight to the altar, if we can communicate with the sea god, maybe he can help us find out where those people went.”

Duan Zhen was surprised, “Will the gods really help us?”

“Don’t worry,” Li Xi patted his shoulder, “As long as I’m devout enough, the sea god will help.”

He half-dragged Duan Zhen to the altar, which was no different from when they left, not even a speck of dust on it.

“That octopus earlier was probably attracted by the altar and settled here, also because it’s a place abundant in magic, which is why its size and intelligence surpassed its peers,” Li Xi rubbed his chin, “Duan Duan, wait here for me, I’ll go take a look.”

He was about to swim towards the altar when his wrist was suddenly grabbed. Turning around, he found Duan Zhen furrowing his brows, and it took him a while to say, “I’ll accompany you.”

Li Xi smiled, “It’s no use for you to go, you’re not a merman.”

Nevertheless, he still dragged Duan Zhen to the altar.

“If I close my eyes and stay still later, don’t worry, I’ll be talking to the sea god,” Li Xi said, “Duan Duan, keep an eye on the outside for me, don’t let other creatures disturb me.”

“Okay,” Duan Zhen readily agreed.

Seeing how serious and focused he was, Li Xi couldn’t help but lean closer to him, quickly planting a light kiss on his cheek before swishing his tail, “I’m starting, don’t disturb me.”

Kiss and flee.

Duan Zhen couldn’t help but laugh. Seeing that Li Xi had closed his eyes and stopped moving, he took out his sword and began to guard.

Although it was said to communicate with the sea god through prayer, in reality, after Li Xi closed his eyes, magic enveloped the altar and began to climb around the statue of the sea god. Halfway up, the statue emitted a faint golden light, and a voice appeared in his mind, “This could be construed as sexual harassment, Lord Demon King.”

Ignoring his banter, Li Xi got straight to the point, “You should know my purpose.”

“I do, but by interfering with the task like this, aren’t you afraid of angering Lord Hewlett?” the sea god’s voice sounded resigned.

“Is he awake?” Li Xi raised an eyebrow.

“…Not yet,” the sea god shook his head.

“Then he won’t know, will he?” Li Xi’s tone turned sly.

The sea god fell silent.

As a minor deity under Hewlett’s command, he had also heard of Senafel’s exploits. Although the other party’s style was relatively reasonable among the demon kings, he was not an easy person to get along with.

He vaguely sensed that if he refused here, the next step might be “war” after “diplomacy.”

“You’re right,” he spoke up, “So, what do you want me to do this time?”

Li Xi smiled satisfactorily, “Don’t worry, it’s nothing difficult.”

He explained all his requirements to the sea god, who looked puzzled but still nodded in agreement, “No problem.”

Duan Zhen, waiting outside, couldn’t hear their conversation, but ever since the statue flashed with golden light, he clearly felt a vague, indescribable aura around him, as if even the flow of water had become sluggish.

It was only now that he had a rough understanding of the concept of deities.

Under the aura, no creature dared to approach recklessly, until Li Xi opened his eyes, the pressure dissipated, and the surrounding world came back to life.

“The deities cannot casually use their true bodies to enter the worlds they govern.” Li Xi noticed his serious expression and immediately guessed what he was thinking, “The specific principle is quite complicated, but you can understand it as this world being unable to withstand their energy. As soon as they enter, it would collapse.”

Of course, that was entirely because these minor deities couldn’t even fully control their own powers. If they could, they could roam around freely with Duan Zhen, unlike some deities who remained single for centuries.

Li Xi felt a strange sense of superiority in his heart.

“Oh, by the way,” he snapped out of his self-satisfaction and remembered something important, “I’ve made a deal with the sea god. When the time comes, sing him a song, and he’ll turn you guys into merfolk. But…”

He leaned in close to Duan Zhen, speaking in a hushed tone, “I don’t want those people to have it too easy, so I’ll make them suffer a bit. Don’t worry, there won’t be any life-threatening danger.”

Duan Zhen reached out to ruffle his hair, knowing he was venting for him, and indulgently curved his lips, “Alright, we’ll do it your way.”

“Thank you, Duan Duan,” Li Xi hugged him and rubbed against him.

“This is the opportunity you fought for,” Duan Zhen was a little overwhelmed by his clinginess, but still maintained a calm and composed demeanor, pushing Li Xi away slightly with his hand on his shoulder, “Shouldn’t we call them back now?”

“Yeah,” Li Xi nodded, “But let’s not tell them about the offerings yet. Let’s see what they can come up with.”

“Do you suspect they’re hiding something?” Duan Zhen was taken aback, then quickly caught on, “Indeed, when I tried to inquire before, they were evasive.”

“In the context of this world, you were sent by the king to hunt merfolk. The king must know that there are many merfolk in the Endless Sea, yet he only sent a few of you, indicating that he believes you can complete the task,” Li Xi analyzed.

Duan Zhen looked at him with a hint of amusement, “You’re right about that, so the human side must have something to rely on.”

Li Xi glanced at him imperceptibly, realizing that Duan Zhen was ‘nurturing’ him, not wanting to be underestimated. He cleared his throat and continued, “Although your weapons are powerful, they’re far from enough to hunt merfolk. So, there must be something else on you. If you’re not sure what it is, it’s likely with the other four.”

“Then what?” Duan Zhen asked.

“We’re not sure what it is yet, but I suspect they won’t just hand it over easily,” Li Xi glanced around before leaning into Duan Zhen’s ear.

Before he could speak, Duan Zhen reflexively leaned back.

Li Xi paused for two seconds, then smirked, “Why are you dodging? I’m not going to blow air into your ear this time.”

He swam over, grabbed Duan Zhen’s arm, and grinned mischievously, “But you’re so sensitive… could it be your ears are your weak spot?”

Duan Zhen remained silent with a serious expression.

When Duan Zhen had a stern face, most people didn’t dare to meet his gaze, but Li Xi wasn’t afraid at all. He circled around him with a playful expression, “Don’t ignore me, I was wrong, I shouldn’t have been so blunt.”

His apology was insincere, which made Duan Zhen finally crack a smile and lightly tapped his head, “You’re so unrestrained for a kid.”

“I’m not a kid,” Li Xi’s expression changed, and he suddenly leaned in closer to Duan Zhen, “Do I look like a kid to you? Besides, even if I’m really only 18, that’s marriageable age where we come from.”

“The legal age for marriage for men is 22,” Duan Zhen said, furrowing his brows, “In your place…”

“We don’t need a marriage certificate, having a wedding is enough,” Li Xi almost let slip, “It’s called… a common-law marriage.”

He didn’t understand the laws of this world very well, so the more he said, the more mistakes he made. He quickly changed the subject, “I had the sea god take a look, and they’re all safe, scattered throughout the ocean. I’ll call the merfolk to gather.”

The slight strangeness in Duan Zhen’s heart hadn’t had time to spread before Li Xi blocked it, emitting sound waves quietly.

But he still felt that something was off about Li Xi’s words earlier.

As Li Xi turned back, revealing a slightly guilty smile, Duan Zhen suddenly realized what was wrong—what did he mean by “even if I’m really only 18”? Did Li Xi not tell his true age before?

Duan Zhen fell silent.

Between Li Xi not yet being an adult and the other party just looking young, he felt the former was more likely, and Li Xi’s behavior and character all seemed more childish.

Oooh, looks like Li Xi is starting to slip~
