Although the duration of the bright light wasn’t long, all the undead roaming the streets were almost completely wiped out. Duan Zhen held onto Li Xi and realized he was just asleep, which relieved him. He sighed in relief and looked down from the rooftop.

Below, it was still pitch black, but his exceptional night vision allowed him to catch a few fast-moving figures. If he wasn’t mistaken, that should be Xia Qirong and the others.

As Duan Zhen walked down with Li Xi in his arms, he noticed that Dan Zuo had already brought the others over.

Dan Zuo, with his mastery of computers and the data he collected daily, could calculate the location of the task givers, and they found Duan Zhen based on that.

“What happened to Li Xi?” Xia Qirong couldn’t help but ask.

“The light just now was emitted by him, and it seems to have drained him,” Duan Zhen said. “Although the undead are now eliminated, we don’t know what else might be lurking in the darkness, so we must remain vigilant.”

“But Li Xi has helped a lot. If it weren’t for him, we would still be trapped while the city was overrun by undead,” Xia Qirong rambled. “Now that the undead are gone, we can search for clues freely.”

“I suspect the clues are in the Duke’s mansion,” Duan Zhen said, furrowing his brow. “I’ll take Li Xi back to the room. Dan Zuo, you keep an eye on him and call us if anything unusual happens.”

Dan Zuo nodded silently.

After putting down Li Xi, the group began searching for clues.

Duan Zhen whispered, “The Duke’s heir is named Hewlett. I suspect he’s related to the Dark Lord and may have turned him into undead. You all need to be extra careful.”

“Got it,” Sun Le nodded, then turned to Xia Qirong. “I’ll go search the first floor with him.”

The mansion was large, with plenty of rooms, but they were all guest rooms or storage rooms, or entertainment areas. Duan Zhen walked all the way to the central third floor and saw a redwood door twice the size of a regular room door. He knew this was likely the study.

He gently pushed open the door, finding the study empty.

Duan Zhen immediately entered, quickly surveying the room.

The walls had been converted into bookshelves, reaching up to the ceiling, filled with books, but he didn’t see a ladder climbing up in the room.

Without much inspection, Duan Zhen walked directly to the desk and began flipping through the papers.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Li Xi suddenly woke up from a drowsy state, opening his eyes and feeling a thin layer of cold sweat on his forehead. It felt like he had just had a long nightmare, but when he tried to recall it, he had no impression at all.

“Who are you?” Coming back to his senses from the nightmare, he immediately noticed Dan Zuo beside him, his expression wary.

Dan Zuo hadn’t spoken yet, and Li Xi rubbed his temples. “You have no magical power in your body, just an ordinary person. How dare you sneak into the Duke’s mansion.”

“Duan Zhen asked me to take care of you,” Dan Zuo said, looking at him. He felt that those black eyes under the street lamp seemed to reveal a hint of transparency, not like eyes, but more like the texture of a gem.

Li Xi frowned but didn’t say anything.

In such a large Duke’s mansion, it was strange that an outsider was needed to take care of him, and that this outsider had easily broken through the mansion’s defenses.

Was it because of the undead just now?

Thinking that there was still a necromancer outside, Li Xi pursed his lips. “How’s the situation outside?”

“The undead have disappeared, and there have been no new developments for now,” Dan Zuo reported truthfully.

“What about Duan Zhen?” Li Xi asked instinctively, then felt something was wrong.

Why was he so concerned about the whereabouts of a servant?

“He went to check on the others,” Dan Zuo thought for a moment, then asked tactfully, seeing that Li Xi still hadn’t shown any signs of regaining his memory, “Do you feel like something’s off?”

Li Xi felt like everything was off.

His consciousness struggled, finding this world filled with discordance, as if he could speak countless words piercing through the loopholes with just one utterance. But in the next moment, he found his mind blank.

“I’ll go out and take a look too,” Li Xi said.

“You just fainted from exhaustion earlier. It’s best to continue resting,” Dan Zuo blocked the door.

Since Li Xi hadn’t regained his memory, he couldn’t let him go out and obstruct Duan Zhen and the others from gathering intelligence.

Li Xi’s gaze turned slightly cold. “Are you trying to stop me?”

“I’m just thinking about your well-being,” Dan Zuo said.

His data collector in his pocket suddenly vibrated, and at the same time, he felt an inexplicable pressure, as if something was restricting his movements.

Li Xi raised his hand, preparing to teach this person who dared to block his path a lesson, but a sense of weakness came over him. He had just tried to get up when he fell back onto the bed, his face turning pale again.

Dan Zuo subconsciously tried to help him, but as soon as he moved, he found that Li Xi had already propped himself up on the bed, so he continued to dutifully block the door.

This feeling of weakness was very familiar to Li Xi, a remnant effect of depleted magical power. But since that incident, he had never felt a lack of magical power again, let alone being unable to get up from a simple light spell.

His first reaction was that the person in front of him had done something, but he couldn’t bring himself to suspect the other party.

Li Xi sat on the bed for a while, confirming that he wasn’t recovering his strength, before speaking up. “Where’s my elder brother?”

“Lord Hewlett should still be in his own room,” Dan Zuo said, his appearance gentle and frail, not looking like someone who would lie. “Perhaps he hasn’t been awakened by the undead.”

“Impossible. My elder brother…” Li Xi paused midway through his sentence, frowning. “My elder brother is powerful. How could he not wake up with something as big as this happening?” The feeling of discordance grew stronger.

The term “elder brother” seemed somewhat unfamiliar, prompting him to think about everything related to Hewlett.

“Li Xi.” Seeing that he wasn’t himself, Dan Zuo hesitated before calling out to him.

Li Xi didn’t respond, so Dan Zuo moved aside and quietly took out a device from his pocket. The numbers on it began to fluctuate wildly, sometimes low and sometimes frighteningly high.

This was a situation that had never occurred before.

At that moment, he saw Duan Zhen coming down from upstairs and quickly waved to him, making a few silent gestures before stepping aside.

Duan Zhen had just found a lot of information in the study, and his mood wasn’t great all the way. But when he saw Li Xi pale, leaning on the bed with a furrowed brow, even his rosy lips were turning pale, his brain hadn’t reacted yet, but his body had quickened its pace and reached out to support Li Xi’s shoulder.

“… Are you okay?” After a moment of silence, Duan Zhen asked.

Li Xi’s gaze was unfocused, but upon hearing Duan Zhen’s voice, his brow relaxed slightly. Subconsciously, he wrapped his arms around Duan Zhen’s arm and buried his face in his chest. Duan Zhen gently patted his back. “Don’t be afraid, I’m here. Nothing will happen.”

After a while, he heard the response, “You’re just an ordinary person, what good can you do? Stay here and don’t wander around.”

As he said this, Li Xi was still nestled in his embrace.

He’s still like a child, Duan Zhen thought.

But the next moment, Li Xi raised his head again. Although his face was still pale, his lips were pressed into a straight line. “Are there any casualties outside?”

Duan Zhen hadn’t encountered a single undead all the way, estimating that they had all been eliminated by Li Xi earlier. He remained silent for a moment. “It’s clean outside, no signs of blood.”

The undead would cause blood to splatter while feasting, so hearing Duan Zhen’s words, Li Xi breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good.”

Then he stood up, feeling the weakness in his body, but his expression remained unchanged. He simply said, “Help me to my elder brother.”
