“Li Xi, you’re weak right now. I’ll go check on Lord Hewlett’s condition for you,” Duan Zhen said.

If Hewlett wasn’t the Demon King but just had the same name, he should have turned into an undead like the others. And if he truly was the Dark Lord, Duan Zhen wouldn’t let Li Xi go find him at this moment.

This was just an intermediate world, would the Demon Lord really pretend to be a game character here?

“No,” Li Xi refused coldly, “I must confirm my elder brother’s safety, and we must find that necromancer lurking in the shadows.”

A trace of cold killing intent flashed across the young and beautiful face.

Duan Zhen’s hand supporting Li Xi tightened slightly.

“My body also has issues, and I may have been ambushed,” Li Xi continued, glancing at Duan Zhen. “You’re probably not just ordinary prey, right? Do as I say now. I won’t pursue your intrusion into the Duke’s mansion, and I’ll ensure you can safely leave.”

“Since you know we have ulterior motives, why did you reveal your physical condition?” Duan Zhen frowned. Even if Li Xi had lost his memories, he still seemed a bit naive. “What’s wrong with your body? Where does it hurt?”

“I trust my judgment of people,” Li Xi said, staring at Duan Zhen. “I can tell that you’re an honest person. If you’re not, then consider it me being blind again.”

“Again?” Duan Zhen was taken aback.

He wanted to ask more, but Li Xi impatiently said, “What else do you want to ask? Let’s talk as we walk.”

Seeing his determination to go, Duan Zhen helped him forward. Li Xi, due to his weak body, was almost completely reliant on him, walking with wobbly legs.

“Excuse me.” Seeing Li Xi’s pale face and silence, Duan Zhen knew he was feeling uncomfortable, so he simply embraced him again, just like before, in a princess carry.

Li Xi’s eyes widened suddenly, and it took him a moment to realize he was being carried like a princess. His face, which had just turned red, turned even redder. “How dare you…”

“This way is faster. The sooner we find Lord Hewlett and eliminate the necromancer, the better we can protect the people in the territory,” Duan Zhen said, turning to Dan Zuo and whispering, “You go find them.”

It wasn’t appropriate to say too much in front of Li Xi now. Dan Zuo held his device, looking down with a lowered gaze. “Captain, I’ll go with you.”

He wanted to verify something.

Dan Zuo had always been obedient, and when he opposed something, he usually had a discovery. Duan Zhen nodded. “Okay, be careful.”

Li Xi’s blush hadn’t faded yet, but his body had naturally found a comfortable position in Duan Zhen’s embrace. Oblivious to it all, he said stubbornly, “When we reach my elder brother’s door, put me down. If anyone else sees you offend the Philotte family like this, they won’t let you off.”

Seeing Li Xi’s shadow in his proficient movements, Duan Zhen’s face softened with a hint of a smile. “Okay.”

In the darkness, there was only silence, their footsteps ascending the stairs, and Li Xi’s accelerating heartbeat.

Although his family doted on him greatly, his mother passed away early, and his father was strict. Even at the brink of death, he only received a restrained hug. Li Xi couldn’t remember how long it had been since he had last had contact with people, but for some reason, he felt incredibly comforted in this embrace.

Hewlett’s room was on the upper floor where Li Xi resided. With Duan Zhen’s speed, they quickly arrived. He put Li Xi down at the door and reached out to straighten his clothes.

Li Xi bit his lip and knocked on the door.

Bang, bang, bang…

The sound echoed in the silence.

There was no response, and no sound came from behind the door.

Li Xi furrowed his brows, deciding not to knock again. Instead, he instructed Duan Zhen, “Break open the door.”

Duan Zhen pushed the door, but it seemed to be locked. He applied a bit more force, causing the door to creak and then snap open.

Though he was just an ordinary person, Duan Zhen seemed to have strength greater than that of a knight. Li Xi glanced at him in surprise but didn’t question it. Instead, he immediately moved to enter the room.

“Be careful,” Duan Zhen quickly supported him.

In fact, Li Xi had already felt his magic returning. At least, he no longer needed assistance to walk. But seeing Duan Zhen’s concern, he swallowed his words and silently entered the room.

The bedroom was spacious but oppressive, with heavy crimson curtains and dark-colored bedding. Everything in sight was in dark tones, and without the lights on, it was almost pitch black.

Li Xi covered his forehead.

“Are you alright?” Duan Zhen quickly noticed something was wrong.

Li Xi took a deep breath. “I’m fine. Go turn on the lights.”

He shook his head, as if trying to shake off the strange images that occasionally flashed before his eyes.

The light of the night pearl seemed to be swallowed by the darkness here. Li Xi wanted to leave, but his vision darkened, and he had to lean against the door frame, his joints turning white from exertion.

“What’s wrong with you?” Dan Zuo’s device began vibrating frantically again. He cautiously approached Li Xi. “Do you need to rest for a while?”

“Don’t touch me!” Li Xi said laboriously.

His mind was filled with constantly shifting images, unable to distinguish between what was real and what was false. Everything before him seemed to be covered in a layer of blood-red.

Even Senafel, with whom he had been so well integrated, began to stir for no apparent reason, releasing countless streams of magic. Li Xi had to focus all his energy on suppressing the surging magic.

He thought it would be difficult, but it turned out to be simple. He merely attempted to control the magic, and the unruly power that had just burst out seemed to obey him like a docile kitten, following his intentions obediently.

He quickly suppressed the surging magic but felt exhausted.

“Let’s go back,” Li Xi whispered.

He didn’t investigate further in the Duke’s mansion but headed straight to his own room.

On the way, he briefly crossed paths with Xia Qirong and the others, but Li Xi only glanced at them and didn’t pay much attention.

“He seems off,” Dan Zuo whispered to Duan Zhen.

“I know,” Duan Zhen replied, intending to go and support him but subtly evaded Li Xi’s notice.

Since earlier, the young man seemed to have become abnormal, as if shrouded in a dim shadow all over, and his black eyes were unusually cold. Duan Zhen thought of the information he found in the study earlier, and his expression became grave.

It was evident that this world had two distinct states: daytime and nighttime. Initially, Li Xi only had memories of the daytime, but now it seemed likely that he knew the reason why everyone turned into undead during the night.

However, surviving for ten days in this mission was clearly not challenging enough, and they didn’t know what would happen in the days to come.

“You stay, and the rest of you leave the Duke’s mansion,” Li Xi instructed the group, beckoning Duan Zhen to enter his own room.

“Even with amnesia, Li Xi treats Brother Duan specially,” Xia Qirong muttered.

But there was no hint of the imagined romantic atmosphere in the room. Li Xi stood and looked at Duan Zhen for a while before asking, “You’re not from here, so what are you doing here?”

Hehe, it’s sweet how Duan Zhen is worried about Li Xi ^-^
