As they walked out together, the few people waiting outside thought Li Xi had already regained his memory, but seeing Duan Zhen gently shake his head behind, they knew it was just an illusion.

Li Xi remained silent, smiling as he listened to Duan Zhen exchanging information with them.

Duan Zhen recounted the situation to them, emphasizing that this was only false memories, likely an illusion, which explained Li Xi’s identity.

Even though there was some preparation beforehand, Xia Qirong was still startled and hiccupped.

Fortunately, he knew when to prioritize, swallowing back the words he wanted to say, and simply nodded to indicate understanding.

Dan Zuo didn’t say anything, pondering over the device in his hand.

Sun Le wore a steady expression, except for a momentary dilation of his pupils upon hearing the name Senafel, he showed no other reaction.

“We want to rescue Lance from here, so we need to break the illusion,” Duan Zhen said. “Do you have any suggestions?”

“The purpose of the illusion is to kill Lance, but no matter what, those undead last night were too weak to kill a demon king. It’s unrealistic,” Xia Qirong couldn’t help but interject, speaking rapidly. “And typically, illusions are created from the deepest fears and struggles of one’s heart, in order to break the person trapped in the illusion. Here, it’s quite obvious…”

He stopped halfway through, meeting Li Xi’s somewhat smiling eyes, nearly biting his tongue and swallowing back the rest: “Anyway, there might still be other tricks here, we need to be careful.”

Duan Zhen guessed he had been intimidated by Li Xi, shook his head, and asked Dan Zuo, “Can you determine the locations of the other three people?”

“I caught a glimpse of them from a distance when we left the forest last night, it looked like they were headed in that direction,” San Zuo pointed in a direction, adding, “But now two of them have weak signals, and one can’t be detected at all.”

Duan Zhen’s eyes darkened suddenly.

Based on the experiences from the previous worlds, when signals couldn’t be received, there was a ninety percent chance of encountering an accident. The remaining ten percent had various possibilities, such as the person learning how to feign death, but that possibility was very small.

“The people you’re talking about, are they the prey of Soren?” Li Xi rubbed his chin. “It’s normal for them to die. What do you think the nobles would want with prey once they’re caught? They wouldn’t be so kind as to catch them and take care of them.”

To be honest, when catching prey, they didn’t care about whether the other party lived or died; they sought the thrill. Unless they were interested in the other party’s appearance and decided to take them back for enjoyment, they wouldn’t be careful.

Such hunting grounds were common for nobles, and Li Xi, even if he sensed something wrong, couldn’t be bothered to correct it, simply waving his hand. “Soren’s strength is also one of the best among the younger generation. If they want to rescue their companion, I’m afraid their chances aren’t good.”

No one spoke, and the atmosphere became particularly heavy for a while.

Li Xi tilted his head to look at them, and after a while, he said, “But it’s not impossible to save them. Since two of them still have signals, why don’t I take you to find them?”

“Will there be any trouble?” Duan Zhen asked.

Li Xi blinked his eyes, “No, even the worst-case scenario would be total annihilation.”

This statement made Duan Zhen choke.

He hadn’t expected one of the demon kings, Senafel, to have such a personality. Although it could be seen from this game that the demon king didn’t care about the lives of others, Duan Zhen didn’t expect him to be so indifferent even to his own life.

But Duan Zhen also felt that the other party’s lack of concern for life wasn’t due to madness, but rather fatigue.

“It probably won’t end in total annihilation,” Xia Qirong murmured, “I think there’s a good chance we’ll safely get out.”

Li Xi glanced at him but said nothing, just waving his hand. “Duan Zhen, come with me, the rest of you stay outside.”

Dan Zuo said, “I can determine their exact locations, I want to go with you.”

Li Xi raised an eyebrow, “Alright.”

He knew these people had unknown origins, but a strange sense of trust, especially the closeness to Duan Zhen, made him both want to get closer and be wary.

Li Xi didn’t believe their claim of coming to rescue him; he was more inclined to think that they were “weapons” sent in by those outside. However, this type of attack was quite novel, and Li Xi found the current situation quite interesting, so he didn’t mind experiencing it a bit longer.

Walking behind Li Xi, Duan Zhen suddenly asked, “Yesterday, I saw in the ledger that the Duke’s mansion had been spending a lot of money for several months to search for Senafel… What exactly is Senafel?”

“It’s a gemstone,” Li Xi replied with a smile. “Legend has it that it possesses earth-shattering power and can grant any wish to its holder.”

“And did you… find it?” Duan Zhen asked.

“Look into my eyes,” Li Xi suddenly stopped and approached Duan Zhen.

His peach blossom eyes widened slightly, and the light brown iris seemed to have a faint golden hue under the sunlight.

Light brown?

Duan Zhen frowned, vaguely remembering that Li Xi’s eyes had been a deep black on one occasion.

“Is it very similar to real eyes?” Li Xi saw his change in expression, knowing that he had realized, and withdrew with a teasing tone. “Thanks to the gods for creating such a miraculous thing and answering my father’s prayers to fulfill his wishes.”

Duan Zhen seemed momentarily speechless. For someone living in modern society, understanding that a person’s eyes were made of a gemstone was somewhat difficult.

It could also be considered as a special type of prosthetic eye.

But Duan Zhen wasn’t thinking about that.

Because it was a magical gemstone, it would only emit different colors when exposed to light. However, he could recall many memories of Li Xi’s eye color changing.

He stared at Li Xi, momentarily at a loss for words.

Li Xi didn’t notice his hidden thoughts under his unusual demeanor, assuming that he was astonished by the existence of Senafel. They arrived in front of a mansion slightly smaller than the Duke’s mansion. The servants at the door quickened their pace to greet him: “Young Master Philotte.”

“I’m looking for Soren,” Li Xi said. “Ask if he caught any strange people last night.”

“Of course, please wait here for a moment,” the servant led him to the waiting area, served tea, and hurried off to inform Soren.

Li Xi didn’t drink the tea, leaning back in his chair, his gaze still on Duan Zhen. He asked with interest, “You know my title, but you don’t know how I became the demon king, or what Senafel is. Where exactly are you from?”

“It doesn’t matter,” Duan Zhen replied. “I just heard about you on the road and don’t really understand.”

“Then you must come from another kingdom,” Li Xi smiled. “People from this country would all know me; after all, I slaughtered the royal family, causing the kingdom to fall apart. Both nobles and commoners should hate me to the core.”

Oh wow, what a way to end the chapter… x_x
