Duan Zhen had indeed heard about Senafel’s deeds for the first time. He carefully observed Li Xi’s expression and found no hatred or sense of vengeance. Instead, Li Xi seemed indifferent, as if he had done nothing more than a trivial task.

“Why did you slaughter the royal family?” Duan Zhen asked tentatively, partly out of his own suspicions and partly to gather more information to fulfill his mission.

Regardless of whether Li Xi was Senafel or not, Duan Zhen didn’t want him to dwell too long in these memories.

Li Xi pondered for a moment before replying, “Why? Because he killed my father and slaughtered the entire Philotte family.”

Duan Zhen furrowed his brow, about to say something more, but at that moment, a young man in noble attire entered the room. It was Soren.

Soren appeared to be a friendly young man, with a constant smile on his face. “Phil, what brings you to me?”

“Yesterday, the prey you caught, what happened to him?” Li Xi asked directly. “Did anyone come to rescue him?”

“Are you interested in him too?” Soren smiled as if he hadn’t noticed Duan Zhen and Dan Zuo standing behind Li Xi. “He was indeed different from the previous prey we caught, but unfortunately, he’s already dead.”

“Already? That fast?” Li Xi frowned.

“Because he was too interesting, I accidentally used too much force,” Soren smiled. “I plan to go back to the hunting grounds today. Phil, would you like to join me?”

“No, thanks,” Li Xi narrowed his eyes. “Did no one come to rescue that prey?”

“No one,” Soren replied without changing his expression. “But I do hope someone similar will come to rescue him. This time, I definitely won’t accidentally kill them.”

“Since there’s no one, I won’t bother you further,” Li Xi stood up.

Soren also stood up to see him off, his demeanor humble and flawless. Li Xi walked with the two of them until they were out of Soren’s line of sight before stopping.

“Those two people are inside the mansion,” Dan Zuo spoke first. “I can detect their signals, they’re very close.”

Li Xi nodded in agreement. “Soren must have captured them all, which is why he gave up my lovely attendant so easily. But it seems that when those two are played to death by him, he will still have his sights on you.”

Dan Zuo was momentarily unsure whether to comment on the “lovely attendant” or to consider how to rescue the two unfortunate individuals.

Using the word “play” implied that their deaths were not normal.

But Li Xi didn’t continue speaking, just smiled at them, as if waiting for Duan Zhen to determine the next course of action.

“What do you suggest?” Duan Zhen asked.

Li Xi blinked, tilted his head, and said, “I cannot interfere with your actions. If my behavior changes significantly in this illusion, it may lead to unforeseen consequences.”

“So I can only follow you and watch without participating. Everything after that depends on you.” He concluded, still wearing a smile.

In fact, this was not the main reason why he chose not to participate.

Li Xi wanted to figure out what Duan Zhen wanted to do and whether he deserved the unexplained trust and closeness that Li Xi felt towards him.

Of course, although Li Xi believed that this closeness was imposed on him by unknown reasons from outside, after a brief interaction with Duan Zhen, he had to admit that the other person had indeed piqued his interest.

The demon king’s interest was not an honor, and one could easily lose their life over it.

Duan Zhen was still unaware that he was being observed, or perhaps he had noticed but didn’t pay too much attention to it.

He was still suspicious of Li Xi’s identity, although for now, there were more pressing matters at hand that he temporarily pushed to the back of his mind. But this matter had become a thorn in his heart, which he would have to resolve sooner or later.

Now the most important thing was to rescue the other two taskers. Since their locations were already known, planning became much easier.

“I want to inquire about Soren’s specific strength,” Duan Zhen said. “Do you think we have a chance of winning against him head-on?”

“On the surface, no,” Li Xi replied straightforwardly.

Seeing the skeptical expressions on the others’ faces, he continued, “You are all ordinary people. I don’t know if you have any other special abilities, but based on Duan Zhen’s strength, which is just slightly stronger, there might be a chance of winning against low-level knights. But against Soren, it’s not enough.”

“No way, Brother Duan can’t beat him?” Xia Qirong exclaimed in disbelief.

“Untrained people naturally can’t beat trained ones,” Li Xi shrugged. “Otherwise, why would those people spend so much effort training?”

“Sounds pretty amazing,” Xia Qirong scratched the back of his head, muttering under his breath.

Duan Zhen’s expression shifted slightly. “After this is over, could you teach me how to cultivate?”

He knew that on the system side, special abilities could be exchanged for points, but for them, that was also quite costly. And until Duan Zhen understood what the system really was, and what effects those abilities might have on the human body, he didn’t plan on redeeming those seemingly tempting abilities. But now with Li Xi’s help, although he didn’t rule out the possibility of being deceived by him, it was still more reassuring than the system.

As Duan Zhen thought about this, he paused for a moment. Whether it was because Senafel might indeed be Li Xi, in his mind, his trust in Senafel had unconsciously surpassed that in the system by quite a bit.

“Sure,” Li Xi readily agreed. “Your talent is better than average, and although you started cultivating later, you can still achieve great heights.”

He maintained his usual smile. “I really don’t understand why those people outside wouldn’t let you cultivate.”

Although he asked this, he already had an answer in mind — it must be to lower his guard. It was easy to figure out which one someone would prefer to deal with, between an ordinary person who was just physically stronger and a knight with profound cultivation.

But Duan Zhen just replied, “We were all at the bottom of the ruling class before, without the chance to come into contact with cultivation.”

Li Xi’s smile remained unchanged, whether he believed it or not.

He sighed, sensing the guardedness buried deep within Li Xi. But he could understand the reasons for Li Xi’s lack of trust in him, so he didn’t bother to explain further. Instead, he began discussing the infiltration plan with the others.

Their plan was simple and straightforward: guided by Dan Zuo who knew the specific locations, they would sneak over the walls of the mansion. At the same time, Xia Qirong, who was agile, would create chaos at the main gate, diverting most of the attention.

“If caught, it’s probably a dead end,” Li Xi interjected seemingly casually.

“I won’t get caught,” Xia Qirong retorted, as if feeling looked down upon.

He paused for a moment, then looked at Duan Zhen with a grin. “And I trust everyone here. Even if I’m caught, they can still rescue me.”

Li Xi chuckled. “Good luck then. Remember to run fast if it comes to that.”

“Shall we begin now?” Duan Zhen turned to him. “Do you need to prepare anything?”

“No need, no one has discovered me yet,” Li Xi winked at him. Without any further action, he simply waved his hand, and his entire body became transparent.

“My abilities are restricted by the illusion, and this spell can only last for an hour,” Li Xi whispered into Duan Zhen’s ear.

As he spoke, Duan Zhen felt a blast of hot air on his ear, involuntarily tilting his head away.

His ear quickly turned red, unbeknownst to him.

Li Xi found it amusing, reaching out to pinch his earlobe. Immediately, his wrist was grabbed by someone.

“Don’t mess around,” Duan Zhen’s breath was a bit unsteady.

To others, it seemed like he was talking to thin air, as there was nothing visible in the spot where he was being grabbed.

“From a scientific perspective, it’s like using unknown energy to create a reflective shield on oneself,”Dan San Zuo stared at the spot where Duan Zhen was being grabbed. Although he couldn’t see Li Xi’s figure, he could still roughly determine his position. “The invisibility planes we’ve developed operate on the same principle. Understanding the composition of this spell could greatly aid further research.”

“Why are you suddenly interested in planes again? I thought you only liked computers,” Xia Qirong shook his head, feeling overwhelmed by this topic.

“They’re related. I had a rough understanding of it back then,” Dan Zuo casually explained.

“Don’t waste time, let’s start moving,” Duan Zhen interrupted their conversation.

With Li Xi now invisible, they began sneaking into Soren’s mansion. Meanwhile, Xia Qirong ran to the main gate, openly pulling out a grenade from his backpack and tossing it in. Three seconds later, the sound of a violent explosion and angry shouts erupted behind him.

“Perfect!” he praised himself inwardly, then began circling the mansion, playing cat and mouse with the people there.

I have a bad feeling about that Soren guy :’)
