As Li Xi fell silent, the room once again plunged into silence. Everyone listened quietly to the sound of the monsters outside, dragging their feet and breathing heavily. There were several times when they felt the creatures were close, as if they would burst through the door at any moment.

They held their breath, making no sound.

As the sky gradually darkened, the outside sounds grew quieter. Eventually, they disappeared completely, and not a single sound could be heard.

Duan Zhen cautiously lifted a corner of the curtain to look outside, only to suddenly meet a pair of eyes.

He clenched the curtain tightly, and through the gap, he saw countless pairs of eyes—those monsters had somehow all pressed themselves against the window, staring at them with dead eyes.

If it were an ordinary player, they would probably have been scared out of their wits and fled screaming. But Duan Zhen keenly sensed something was amiss. He took two steps back and decisively pulled down the curtain.

“Ah!” one of the players was startled by this terrifying and bizarre scene and kept backing away.

“They can’t come in,” Duan Zhen said.

As he moved sideways, the eyes followed his movements. Because they were pressed against the window, the monsters’ bodies contorted into strange shapes. Drool dripped down the window, and sharp, bloodshot teeth could be seen.

“Darn!” Xia Qirong was also scared out of his wits by the scene. “My heart is about to jump out because of them.”

“What do we do next?” Sun Le asked. “They can’t come in now, but we don’t know how long this protection will last.”

“Let’s see if there are any other escape routes,” Duan Zhen frowned, looking at Li Xi. “Do you have any solutions?”

“Don’t worry about them,” Li Xi snapped out of his thoughts and said casually. “If they come in, just kill them. Although there are more of them, it won’t be difficult for you guys.”

“All these people used to be subjects of the Duchy,” Duan Zhen said. “I think back then, the royal family not only targeted your father, but also destroyed this place, right?”

He had been pondering where his unease came from. Combining the fact that Li Xi had not regained his memories and had used up his magic power to protect the people of the duchy until he was exhausted, he could tell that Li Xi felt a strong sense of responsibility towards the people of the duchy.

“If I kill them all, will you really be happy?” Duan Zhen stared at Li Xi. “Those people turned your subjects into undead and monsters just so you could kill them, over and over again. Anyone with a firm resolve would break down under such repetition.”

“You’re right, that’s why I need you guys to take action,” Li Xi blinked. “If you kill them, I’ll be fine.”

“But those people will still be killed in your eyes,” Duan Zhen said. “The best way is to hide until they return to their normal forms.”

Li Xi twitched his eyebrows, and his rosy lips pursed involuntarily. He didn’t retort, but waved his hand as if tired of arguing. “Do as you like. Anyway, it won’t be me who dies in the end.”

He hugged himself, and his slightly fluffy curls trembled with his movements. “Where do you want to hide?”

“There are two possibilities. When the sunlight completely disappears, the restraint on the monsters will decrease, and they can rush into the house. The other possibility is that when the sunlight completely disappears, the monsters will also disappear and return to normal humans,” Duan Zhen analyzed quickly, then turned to look at Li Xi. “Think carefully, are you really in an illusion right now?”

Li Xi was stunned.

In fact, he had already remembered some things. While he was silent just now, he didn’t idle, but used his magic to check his body. He found several restraints, which seemed to be set by Hewlett judging from the aura. He casually broke a few of them and then checked his brain carefully. He found that his memories had indeed been tampered with.

He didn’t know why Hewlett did this… Could it be that he finally decided to make a move on him? But they had been peaceful for so many years, and considering that guy’s character, he wouldn’t join hands with humans to kill him. He couldn’t think of a reason for Hewlett to do this.

There was also Duan Zhen, who inexplicably gave him a sense of closeness. Even after investigating his current memories, he found nothing.

If there was time, he should find a chance to correct the tampered memories.

“There’s a basement here,” the others who had been searching separately came back, and Sun Le opened a passage. “The exit is not large, and the monsters can’t get in. But it’s also likely to be blocked inside.”

“I’ll go down and take a look,” Duan Zhen said. He leaped into the tunnel, and it was very dark below. After turning on a flashlight, he found that it was much wider than he had imagined. The passage was paved with bricks, two to three people wide, and extended inward, with no end in sight.

Almost immediately, Duan Zhen realized that something was wrong here.

The reason why those monsters couldn’t enter might not be the same as what he had guessed earlier.

Instead of rushing forward recklessly, he called everyone down.

“I can’t believe there’s such a large underground passage… Did they dig out the entire underground?” Xia Qirong marveled, “It seems like this is no ordinary household.”

Li Xi looked around and seemed to remember something, his face darkening.

“Do you have any impression of this place?” Duan Zhen noticed his change in expression and asked.

“No,” Li Xi pursed his lips, emitting a gloomy atmosphere.

After tossing aside these two stiff words, he walked into the passage without intending to communicate with the others.

The passage was very dark, and even the flashlight couldn’t penetrate too far. But within a few breaths, Li Xi’s figure almost disappeared in front of Duan Zhen.

He waved to signal the others to follow, then strode forward.

The deeper they went into the passage, the more it seemed like there was no end. In the heavy darkness, only their footsteps and breaths could be heard. Li Xi ahead seemed like a shadow, elusive, and no matter how hard Duan Zhen tried, he couldn’t get closer.

“This isn’t right,” Duan Zhen stopped, looking back, his brows furrowed, “The numbers don’t add up.”

Xia Qirong, who was behind him, also looked back, “What’s wrong? There’s me, Brother Duan, Dan Zuo, and Sun Le, plus the two of them, that’s six…”

He didn’t finish his sentence, but was stunned for a moment, “Seven?”

He shone the flashlight towards those people and showed a shocked expression, “Sun Le!”

Sun Le, illuminated by the flashlight, immediately realized the danger due to years of tacit understanding, but it was too late. A humanoid creature behind him opened its mouth wide, and in an instant, it seemed to turn into a black mud, engulfing him whole.

This scene was too fast, even Duan Zhen only managed to fiercely throw the flashlight in his hand, but it seemed to be absorbed as well, flashing twice before going out, disappearing into the darkness.

Immediately after, the creature melded into the ground in front of them.

No one spoke, fear and anger swelling in their hearts. Duan Zhen tensed his body, one hand gripping the cold wall tightly, almost feeling like he couldn’t breathe.

Several seconds passed before he straightened up, subconsciously squeezing his left wrist, his voice hoarse, “Continue forward, watch your surroundings, Dan Zuo, you guard the rear.”

“Yes!” Dan Zuo nodded.

With this delay, Li Xi’s figure, which was still visible in front, had completely disappeared. They walked forward in silence.

In a low voice, Xia Qirong asked, “Brother Duan, did Sun Le really die like that?”

“Not necessarily,” Duan Zhen pressed the scar on his wrist, trying to stay calm, “We can ask Li Xi once we find him.”

“He’s Senafel now,” Xia Qirong muttered, full of resentment and even hatred, “If it weren’t for these Demon Kings creating this game, so many people wouldn’t have died. If given the chance, I really want to kill all these Demon Kings!”

Duan Zhen remained silent.

All the people forcibly pulled into the game harbored no goodwill towards the Demon Kings, but he thought of Li Xi’s appearance, and his speculation about the other’s identity began to waver once again.

Was Li Xi really Senafel? If so, how would he face the other…

Duan Zhen was rarely so restless. As he walked forward, he suddenly realized that there was someone standing in front of them.

“Sun Le?” Xia Qirong saw it and exclaimed in surprise, “Are you okay?”

Sun Le didn’t speak, but slowly walked towards them. His face was very pale, and his footsteps on the bricks made no sound.

Duan Zhen blocked Xia Qirong, his voice cold, “You’re not Sun Le!”

The person in front didn’t speak but suddenly turned into a black puddle and rushed towards him.

Duan Zhen dodged, quickly pulled out a talisman, and threw it at the black mud. But the talisman passed through the mud’s body, hitting the ground with a snap.

The black mud wrapped around his arm.

It felt like sinking into mud, unable to exert any force.

Xia Qirong grabbed Duan Zhen, holding a flashlight in his mouth, and muttered, “Brother Duan, hold on!”

Oh my god things aren’t looking good T_T
