In the silent space, there was only the heavy breathing of Duan Zhen. He leaned against the stone wall, and in the dark passage, he was the only one left.

Just now, Xia Qirong was taken away by the black mud while trying to save him, and when he turned around, he found that the others had disappeared without a trace.

The stone wall was cold, and he squeezed his forehead with force, using the piercing sensation to keep himself awake.

Something was off here, he vaguely realized. Perhaps everything that had just happened wasn’t real, but the scenes were too vivid, causing him to momentarily lose his bearings.

Releasing his hand, Duan Zhen gently rubbed the scar on his left wrist.

This scar was left from his first time on the battlefield at the age of twenty. At that time, he was young and arrogant, thinking that his talent and power made him invincible. But when he entered the battlefield, he realized that no matter how powerful a person was, they couldn’t control life and death. He almost got himself killed and his comrades as well due to recklessness.

Since then, a scar remained on his wrist, constantly reminding him not to be arrogant because of his strength.

Just now, as his companions were being devoured one by one, Duan Zhen almost fell into the trap of wondering if it was his own overconfidence that led to bringing everyone into the underground passage, but he quickly reacted. Something was influencing his will.

What was happening now was probably the last thing he wanted to see subconsciously.

As Duan Zhen sighed with a bitter smile, footsteps suddenly echoed from the other end of the passage. He immediately recognized it as Li Xi approaching, but he wasn’t sure if this Li Xi was real or not.

“Duan Duan,” Li Xi’s figure emerged from the darkness. He smiled with his hands behind his back, “Why are you here alone?”

Duan Zhen looked at him for a moment before asking, “Have you regained your memories?”

“Yeah,” Li Xi nodded with a hint of distress, “I didn’t expect to lose my memory…”

The smile on his lips gradually faded, and he just stared at Duan Zhen, “If I really am Senafel, what are you going to do?”

Before Duan Zhen could answer, he stepped forward again, “Are you going to kill me?”

Duan Zhen stared at him for a while before saying, “I won’t kill you, but…”

“There’s no ‘but’.” Li Xi pressed his lips with his fingers, his gaze calm, “I won’t atone for the dead, nor will I seek forgiveness from others. If you can’t stand by my side, then parting ways is the only choice.”

Tilting his head, the young man smiled, “After all, I can’t bring myself to harm you, and I won’t play any forced roles. Since our beliefs differ, parting ways is the best choice.”

Duan Zhen’s pupils suddenly contracted, and he opened his mouth to say something, but the figure in front of him suddenly disintegrated into points of light. His Adam’s apple rolled up and down as he struggled to control the twitching of his lips, eventually regaining his composure.

The next moment, everything went dark before his eyes, and when he opened them again, he was back at the entrance of the basement where they had just been. The surroundings were scattered with bodies in all directions. He swept his gaze around, but didn’t see Li Xi’s figure among them. Unable to resist, he looked into the passage.

Naturally, there was nothing to be seen.

They must have been trapped in an illusion at some point. Everything that had just happened was fake, and now the others were probably trapped in the illusion just like he had been.

Although worried about Li Xi, he began to wake up the others one by one, shaking their bodies.

“What… what happened?” Xia Qirong sat up, his features furrowed, “It felt like I had a nightmare just now.”

“We’ve been dragged into an illusion,” Duan Zhen said shortly, “Li Xi probably went ahead alone, we need to find him quickly.”

They rallied their spirits and began to move forward again.

At the end of the passage they hadn’t reached, stood a huge black statue in a vast square. Two people stood under the statue, and upon closer inspection, one of them looked exactly like the statue.

“You see, this is his choice.” In front of Hewlett, a rectangular screen was pulled out, showing exactly what had happened to Duan Zhen in the illusion just now.

Li Xi watched in silence.

It wasn’t until the “Li Xi” in the illusion mentioned parting ways that he furrowed his brows slightly.

“No one wants to be associated with the Demon Kings, and in their eyes, we’ve killed so many people.” Hewlett spread out his hands. With black hair, black eyes, and slightly roguish features, he looked lazy, even yawning as he spoke. “You should know this already. Dating while hiding your identity won’t change anything.”

“I don’t remember any of those things,” Li Xi scoffed, then frowned, “And you have the nerve to say that. Who gave you the right to tamper with my memories? And you dare to build a Demon King altar here, are you looking to fight me?”

When the king sent people to clear out the opposing forces in the territory, they used the excuse that they had joined the darkness and became followers of the Demon Kings. This was, of course, false, just a banner pulled by those people to justify their actions.

For Hewlett to actually build an altar in this false world was simply stepping into Li Xi’s minefield.

“I’m just worried that the kid will go astray.” Hewlett leaned against the fence next to the altar. “The devil falling in love with a human isn’t very interesting.”

Li Xi remained silent.

“You know it yourself, otherwise why haven’t you fully recovered your memories yet?” Hughlett closed his eyes. “Avoidance won’t solve all the problems.”

“I know,” Li Xi replied impatiently, “You speak as if you have a lot of experience.”

After a moment of silence, he suddenly chuckled, “Although I don’t have my memories, Duan Zhen is indeed my type. What a pity.”

This game should be coming to an end soon.

“Alright, young master, if you were still the same as before, you wouldn’t have fallen for him either,” Hewlett waved his hand. “If it wasn’t for you messing around in my world, I’d still be at home sleeping.”

“…You might as well change your name to the Sleep Demon King,” Li Xi sighed. “You better leave quickly, or do you plan to cause trouble for them in the intermediate world?”

“I’m not that bored to play with these guys,” Hewlett snorted. “Clemens came looking for trouble with you a while back, didn’t he? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have fallen into my hands so easily.”

Li Xi glanced at him. “What are you trying to say?”

“Watch out for the main system,” Hewlett said. “It seems like it wants to dominate this game.”

“I vaguely remember that there was some method to counter it,” Li Xi rubbed his chin. “But I don’t remember now, probably sealed along with those memories.”

“I can help you unlock it now,” Hewlett reached out.

Li Xi dodged. “Just get out of here. Duan Zhen and the others will be coming soon.”

“After all these years, you still hold grudges like this,” Hewlett shrugged.

Li Xi just scoffed, too lazy to say anything more.

As Duan Zhen and the others hurriedly arrived at the end, they saw Li Xi looking up at the black statue, his lips tightly pressed together, his face as cold as frost.

“Are you okay?” Duan Zhen quickly walked up to him and asked.

“I’m fine,” Li Xi said, his eyes showing anger. “They actually dared to build a Demon King altar here!”

“Demon King?” The people behind him were puzzled and went to look at the statue.

“It’s Hewlett,” Li Xi said, sweeping a glance at everyone. “There’s his altar here. You probably had quite a few nightmares.”

Mentioning those nightmares, the expressions of the people present changed slightly.

Suppressing the complex emotions surging in his heart, Duan Zhen whispered, “Shouldn’t we destroy this place?”

Li Xi’s eyes were filled with coldness. “I will destroy him, but those things probably won’t come in because of this altar. You need to be prepared to escape.”

As he spoke, he raised his hand, aiming at the statue with his palm upright, and a ball of light continuously condensed within it.

“Wait.” The two people who had been saved earlier exclaimed, “Since those monsters fear this statue, can’t we keep it?”

“No,” Li Xi said coldly. “There can’t be any other Demon King altars in my territory. Moreover, this is a provocation from the creator of the illusion.”

With that, the ball of light condensed into a beam and struck the head of the statue. The head fell with a snap, rolling on the ground for a couple of rounds. At the same time, the entire altar began to shatter, with countless cracks appearing on the surface of the statue.

The ground trembled, and dust fell from above.

“The building above collapsed,” Duan Zhen’s face changed, subconsciously pulling up Li Xi, “We need to leave quickly. This place probably won’t hold for much longer.”

Author’s note:

The illusion is Duan Zhen confronting himself, not the real Li Xi, it’s something he imagined.

False parting ways:

Duan Zhen: This place is collapsing, let’s run! (Subconsciously grabbing Li Xi’s hand)

Real parting ways:

Li Xi: Seal the memories. No need to unlock them.

Li Xi’s current memories are basically before he met Duan Zhen.

Aww… is Li Xi going to fall all over again for Duan Zhen?? x) Also, Hewlett kinda feels like an annoying big bro or something lol… he doesn’t seem as antagonist as Clemens at least!
