The group hurried out of the tunnel, and just as they pulled out the last person, they heard a loud rumble from behind, like the aftermath of an earthquake.

Initially, Duan Zhen was vigilant of the monsters outside, but upon emerging, he found that it was eerily quiet. All the monsters had vanished, leaving only them standing in the deserted streets, surrounded by silence.

“We’ll rest at the Duke’s mansion today,” Li Xi said. He seemed to be in a bad mood ever since seeing the tunnel, and even towards Duan Zhen, he didn’t show a pleasant expression. “If you don’t want to die, don’t go out tomorrow.”

“Okay,” Duan Zhen nodded.

The Duke’s mansion was also cold and deserted. Li Xi returned to his bedroom and casually pointed to several guest rooms, saying, “Those are all empty rooms, choose for yourselves. Don’t wander around tonight.”

“Will there be any unexpected discoveries? Like having a romantic encounter with a beautiful female ghost,” Xia Qirong joked.

“You can try,” Li Xi raised an eyebrow. “But I won’t care about your life or death.”

Duan Zhen understood his meaning. From what he could see now, everything that happened in the illusion ultimately pointed towards Senafel. It seemed that, as Li Xi had said, the purpose of this world was to kill him or make him collapse. Thus, it was evident that the Duke’s mansion wouldn’t be as peaceful as it seemed.

“Tonight, we’ll take turns keeping watch,” Duan Zhen said. “Don’t go out alone.”

“Okay,” he said, and the others nodded.

With six people in total, they decided to pair up three in a room, with the two other mission-takers and Duan Zhen together.

After Li Xi left and the room fell into complete darkness, one of the crew with a crew cut hairstyle asked, “Brother Duan, is that person part of your team? I’ve heard of immersive games before, but it’s the first time I’ve seen only one person immersed in the whole game.”

He paused for a moment, then whispered, “And how could he wield the power of the entire world?”

“Games come in all shapes and sizes. I once turned into a mermaid in one world and could use the power of a mermaid,” Duan Zhen said calmly. “He was chosen as the vessel for memories, so being able to use the power of this world isn’t surprising.”

“After successfully completing the mission, will he regain his memories?” the crew-cut guy hesitated to ask.

“I don’t know, but he probably will,” Duan Zhen thought for a moment.

The room fell silent again, and it was Duan Zhen who broke the silence. “You guys rest first. I’ll take the first watch of the night.”

The other two had experienced so much today, both mentally and physically exhausted. Upon hearing Duan Zhen’s words, knowing that he wanted them to rest a bit more, they gratefully agreed and closed their eyes, soon falling into a deep sleep.

Sitting in the darkness, half-closed eyes deep in thought, Duan Zhen pondered the way to unravel the secrets of this world.

The mission required them to uncover the world’s secrets while surviving for ten days. From the system’s habit of issuing missions, if they could unlock the world’s secrets prematurely, perhaps they could clear the mission on the spot without waiting for ten days.

From Senafel’s initial memory sealing to its later release, this world wasn’t just an illusion targeted at him, but also a mystical cycle.

And unlocking the secrets of the world might just be their ticket to escape… Should he ask Li Xi tomorrow?

Thinking of Li Xi led him to recall the nightmares from today. Furrowing his brows tightly, his forehead creased. To be honest, Li Xi’s involvement in Senafel’s matter had about a sixty to seventy percent chance in his heart. Without substantial evidence, this possibility was high for him, who was usually cautious.

Until now, with these conflicting emotions swirling in his heart, Duan Zhen realized that the other party had already occupied a significant portion of his heart without him even realizing it.

During the night, although there were strange sounds outside the door, since no one ventured out of the house, they managed to pass the night without incident.

Early in the morning, the group got up for breakfast, and Duan Zhen took the initiative to find Li Xi. He knocked on the door, and it opened automatically.

The scene inside the room gave him the illusion of being in a magical world. The closet door opened, and clothes flew out from inside. Li Xi half-sat on the bed, his eyes still half-closed, while a comb and a wet towel were busy grooming him.

“You…” Duan Zhen’s words circled in his mind for a moment, before he said, “Are you awake?”

Li Xi lazily opened his eyes. “Or else?”

“I want to ask you, what will happen today?” Duan Zhen asked, taking a step back to avoid a passing black robe, unable to resist grabbing it.

The robe shook twice, twisting like a person, and used its sleeve to pat Duan Zhen’s hand, then floated away indignantly. It seemed genuinely upset, as Duan Zhen noticed it had expanded a little compared to before.

“Is this magic?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Li Xi yawned, standing up and stretching his arms, and the clothes automatically dressed him.

Duan Zhen thought of how he had been asked to serve Li Xi earlier, suspecting that this magic might have been invented after the decline of his family’s fortunes, and he couldn’t be bothered to dress himself. With this in mind, the floating objects in the room became somewhat cute.

After finishing dressing, Li Xi finally answered Duan Zhen’s question. “If you don’t want to die, don’t go out today, and don’t talk to anyone else.”

Duan Zhen nodded. “Alright.”

Then he looked at Li Xi and asked, “What about you?”

“These are things I have to experience,” Li Xi said, smoothing out the wrinkles on the black robe, and repeated, “You guys stay in the empty rooms, and don’t go out.”

The danger often also served as a source of information, so Duan Zhen pondered for a moment. “You said this is an illusion. Is there a way to break it? You also know that this illusion is meant to kill you, so we don’t need to follow its pace all the time.”

“Of course there is,” Li Xi thought for a moment. “But I don’t want to tell you. You can find it yourselves, or wait until the illusion reaches its end and I break it.”

Duan Zhen furrowed his brow. “Don’t you want to go out?”

“I want to see what they still want to do,” Li Xi said calmly.

“Be careful,” Duan Zhen said, knowing that the person in front of him now was Senafel, not Li Xi, so he had to compromise. “If there’s any danger, you can tell me. I’ll protect you.”

Li Xi looked at him strangely. “Okay.”

With that said, Duan Zhen turned to leave, but stopped after stepping out of the door, then turned back. “Or else, I’ll stay with you today.”

“No need,” Li Xi smiled, meaningfully. “For you, companions are more important.”

“You are also my companion,” Duan Zhen said.

“If you insist, then okay,” Li Xi said after a moment of thought, taking out a black robe from the closet. “Put this on to avoid being recognized.”

Duan Zhen went back to gather the others in one room, informing them that they couldn’t leave the room today or talk to anyone else. Then he left the mansion with Li Xi.

Li Xi rode a chestnut-colored horse, the black robe covering him, making him appear even more slender and delicate.

Duan Zhen rode another horse, observing the surroundings as they went along, noticing that the collapsed area from yesterday had returned to its original state, further confirming his suspicion that this place was indeed false.

He’s his precious companion that occupies a place in his heart…. :’))))) I’m going to cry lol that’s so sweet~
