In the past, the city gate was always guarded by soldiers, but today it was deserted, with the gates tightly closed.

Li Xi looked up at the closed city gate and remained silent for a moment before saying, “Let’s go back.”

Duan Zhen looked at him in confusion.

The young man’s expression was complex. He had anticipated this outcome long ago, yet he still didn’t hesitate to come here, just to take a look at this city gate.

“What are you thinking?” Duan Zhen asked.

“I’m thinking that if I had the power I have now back then, maybe none of this would have happened,” Li Xi said, lightly stroking the mane of his horse beneath him, his tone indifferent. “Let’s go. If we don’t go back now, chaos will ensue in the city.”

What happened next, he had remembered for decades. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw the river of blood flowing through the city, heard the desperate cries of the people, and the sound of blades piercing through bodies. If it weren’t for Senafel’s power, he might not have been able to bear it.

Duan Zhen keenly sensed that Li Xi’s mood was not high, or rather, very low.

Lowering his gaze in thought for a moment, he recalled what Li Xi had said earlier and the demonic altar below, suddenly realizing what kind of tragedy was about to unfold before them.

He rode up to Li Xi and matched his pace, remaining silent for a while before saying, “If you don’t want to see, you don’t have to.”

“You’re right,” Li Xi smiled. “But I want to see, just for the sake of reminiscing about my childhood.”

He always described the events of the past in a casual tone and choice of words, but Duan Zhen could sense that the scar had not healed. It crossed Li Xi’s heart, causing pain with just a light touch.

But Duan Zhen didn’t know how to heal him.

So they rode their horses back to the city, where chaos had already erupted. The people had spontaneously gathered, their expressions filled with grief, shouting for vengeance for the duke. Among them, several figures in black robes moved through the crowd.

“Those are the rebels,” Li Xi said as he watched the scene from afar. “They spontaneously gathered because the duke was unjustly killed and they want justice… No matter what their ultimate goal is, they have failed.”

The royal family had sent a high-level mage, who used forbidden spells to destroy the city, leaving almost everyone dead, except for him. Of course, later Li Xi used the same forbidden spell to exterminate the royal family, in a tit-for-tat manner.

“Lord Philotte,” a person in a black robe suddenly appeared in front of them, bowing respectfully to Li Xi. “The city needs you to take charge now. Please pull yourself together.”

Li Xi didn’t dismount, looking down at the person. “What do you want to do?”

“We want to help the duke seek justice!” the person in the black robe said firmly. “The duke was cruelly killed by the royal family just for finding Senafel for you. This is absolutely unjustifiable. We cannot tolerate it in the eyes of the gods.”

Li Xi tilted his head slightly. “I will naturally avenge my father. There is no need for you to sacrifice yourselves.”

“But the royal family already sees Senafel as theirs. They won’t let you go after this,” the person in the black robe gritted his teeth. “Lord Philotte, why don’t you leave here quickly? We will fight to buy you time to escape.”

Though every word he spoke seemed to be for Li Xi’s sake, in reality, there was no young, passionate person who, after their father’s death, knowing they had the power to resist, would flee like a bereaved dog.

Li Xi didn’t understand this when he was younger, but now he could see it clearly.

He slightly raised his lips. “Alright.”

The person in the black robe clearly hesitated for a moment, not expecting him to agree. Then suddenly, his body twisted, and his voice became hoarse and mechanical. “Please, Lord Philotte, take charge.”

At the same time, everyone outside, including the previous crowd, turned their heads to look in Li Xi’s direction, their voices overlapping, “Please, Lord Philotte, take charge.”

“I really have no choice with you,” Li Xi’s expression remained unchanged as he nodded. “In that case, I will stay and organize forces to seek justice for my father.”

With that said, he lightly spurred his horse and headed towards the duke’s mansion.

Along the way, everyone stared at them with a wooden, mechanical gaze, their heads turning in Li Xi’s direction. Duan Zhen hid his face beneath his black robe, discreetly observing the people.

In just a short moment, the previously vivid and alive people became lifeless, with a layer of gray film over their eyes, stiff muscles, and a bluish-gray hue on their faces.

Although they didn’t turn into the monsters like yesterday, it was estimated that they were not benevolent characters either.

The people in the Duke’s mansion were much the same. The steward stiffly led Li Xi’s horse, his eyes fixed on Li Xi, his mouth slightly open, emitting strange, hoarse sounds.

“Not yet,” Li Xi’s gaze turned cold.

The steward’s eyes flashed with a hint of clarity as he led the horse away.

Duan Zhen continued to act as his attendant, following him into the mansion. He whispered, “These people will soon undergo changes, and it will be difficult if we get surrounded.”

“It’s fine,” Li Xi replied.

He adjusted his black robe and, with Duan Zhen, made his way to the study, sitting in the main seat and sighing.

“My father was not as beloved as this,” he murmured, perhaps suddenly feeling the urge to confide. “He was stern and cold, at least in the eyes of others. There’s no doubt he loved me, but he rarely held me or smiled at me. As a child, I often wondered if I wasn’t favored by my father, and I even threw many tantrums because of it.”

“But… it wasn’t until he died that I realized how much of a place he held in my heart,” Li Xi continued, sighing again, then taking out something resembling a mirror from a drawer. On it were three people, a young couple cradling a baby.

Li Xi gazed at the mirror, lost in thought for a moment before clicking his tongue lightly. “This world is indeed realistic.”

Beside him, Duan Zhen saw the faces of the two people in the mirror. The man had black hair and blue eyes, his lips pursed and brows furrowed, exuding seriousness even at this moment. The woman, with long golden curls, leaned against the man, her lips upturned in a warm and gentle smile. In her arms, the baby with blue eyes sucked on his fingers, his little white foot lifted curiously towards the viewer.

Anyone who had seen Li Xi would recognize the blood relation between him and these two people.

He inherited the woman’s beauty, but subtle facial changes gave his appearance a sharpness akin to the man’s, making his features as stern and cold as a man’s when he lost his smile.

But Li Xi had only ever shown him a sweet smile, so it wasn’t until now that Duan Zhen realized the true look in his eyes.

Duan Zhen’s emotions grew more complicated. He looked at Li Xi’s profile, opened his mouth, but ultimately remained silent, not interrupting his thoughts.

Whether it was Senafel or Li Xi, he was now just a person nostalgic for his parents.

While Li Xi looked at the magical photograph, Duan Zhen began to survey the study again.

He had been here once on the first night, but due to limited time, he only skimmed through the ledgers on the desk and some other documents. Now looking at the bookshelf, he saw many books on human geography, as well as some books on magic. Pulling one out, he found dense, unfamiliar text inside.

…The ledgers on the desk were all in Chinese.

At this moment, Li Xi had already put down the photograph and picked up the ledger. Duan Zhen walked over to him again, seeing that the characters on it were still Chinese, but Li Xi had no difficulty reading them, deepening his suspicion.

They stayed in the study for half an hour, Li Xi showing no intention of leaving, and there was no movement outside. Duan Zhen looked at him and suddenly said, “Li Xi?”

Li Xi didn’t move, but after a while, he looked up at Duan Zhen, smiling ambiguously. “You can just say whatever you want.”

“Do you have any impression of this name?” Duan Zhen asked.

Since he had decided to ask, he didn’t beat around the bush. “Are you Senafel or Li Xi?”

“I couldn’t see this thing before.” Li Xi raised his wrist and shook it, the intelligent bracelet clasped around his fair skin. “But later on, I could see it. However, there are no tasks on it.”

Li Xi stood up, approached Duan Zhen, and looked deeply into his eyes. “If I’m both Senafel and Li Xi, what are you going to do? Abandon me? Or just kill me directly? In the game of the four demon kings, if I die, a quarter of the world might collapse, and it might save a lot of people.”

Duan Zhen’s breath caught, looking at Li Xi, not expecting him to say such words.

“Were you pretending before?” he asked.

Li Xi blinked. “Guess.”

He stood up straight, stretched lazily, and said, “I won’t play this game anymore after this.”

Duan Zhen frowned, looking at him, then suddenly grabbed his wrist, examining the intelligent bracelet. There were indeed no tasks on it, but it still showed as activated.

“What’s the deal with the game of the four demon kings? How does the system work?” Duan Zhen asked. “If I’m not mistaken, this is a magical world here. Is there really such a thing as a main system, which seems more like technology?”

Oh man
