“Quite perceptive of you,” remarked Li Xi, moving his wrist slightly but not freeing himself, raising an eyebrow. “Let go.”

Perhaps now that the conversation had started, he seemed grumpy, but Duan Zhen still felt that the young man in front of him was just putting on a show and wasn’t genuinely angry.

He released his grip, still intending to ask about the main system, but Li Xi said, “This isn’t something you need to know, so don’t inquire further.”

“Dan Zuo has been researching the main system,” Duan Zhen persisted, blocking his path. “Perhaps he can help you separate from the main system.”

“How do you know that the main system and I are not one entity?” Li Xi raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms. “Aren’t you afraid that I could help the main system eliminate all of you right now?”

“I’m not afraid,” Duan Zhen replied calmly. “When you heard Dan Zuo mention that he was observing the system, you seemed very interested.”

Li Xi blinked. “Is that so?”

As soon as he finished speaking, he cleared his throat again. “Okay, you guessed it right. I want to find a way to separate the main system from this world. If Dan Zuo can research it, I would naturally be pleased.”

Duan Zhen furrowed his brow, suspecting that Li Xi’s memory might not have fully recovered. Nevertheless, he carefully observed the young man’s expression, and Li Xi returned his gaze with slight impatience, seemingly not concealing anything.

“Alright, let’s discuss this later,” Li Xi said, also frowning. “How much longer do you plan on blocking my way?”

Even though he was just an ordinary human, he was surprisingly strong, towering over him by more than a head, like a small mountain blocking his path, exuding a strong sense of oppression.

Li Xi, feeling displeased, made a sound of dissatisfaction from his throat.

Duan Zhen stepped aside, staring sharply at Li Xi, seemingly contemplating something.

Ignoring him, Li Xi walked to the door, pushing it open and peering outside.

No one was on this floor, and he furrowed his brow in confusion. “If I’m not mistaken, they’re mutating into something like zombies, and they will follow living people.”

With both of them here, there was no reason they wouldn’t attract attention.

As for the others in the room, he had set up an array that would conceal the aura of the living, so as long as they stayed inside, they would be safe.

“What’s wrong?” Duan Zhen asked, seeing him frowning.

“We should go downstairs and check,” Li Xi replied, taking a step down. “I hope they’ve listened well.”

They observed their surroundings as they walked, but didn’t notice anything unusual. However, when they reached the room where everyone was staying, they found the door wide open and no one inside.

Li Xi stepped in and looked around, his nostrils flaring slightly. “There’s a smell of blood.”

Duan Zhen also smelled it, his brow furrowed as he searched the room, and he found a piece of paper under the bed.

“There’s been an attack, similar to zombies,” the handwriting was rushed, but the paper was clean, with no bloodstains. They shouldn’t have been injured.

“The array hasn’t been broken,” Li Xi observed the room, but unlike Duan Zhen, he was confident. “It must be someone who leaked their aura after going out and was discovered.”

“Should we go find them?” Duan Zhen asked.

“Yeah,” Li Xi nodded. “At least Dan Zuo can’t die.”

He walked out of the room, standing at the doorway for a moment. “Where do you think they would run?”

“Outside,” Duan Zhen thought for a moment. “Let’s go out. If those things are still chasing them, it’ll be easy to find their location.”

Li Xi shrugged. “You’re right.”

He adjusted his black robe, indicating to Duan Zhen to do the same. “There might be a lot of blood splatter later. If you don’t want to dirty your clothes inside, wrap them tightly.”

Duan Zhen took out his weapon, pointing it downwards.

“This weapon is quite interesting,” Li Xi commented as they walked outside.

“I bought it at a store. It’s more powerful than normal and can use different types of ammunition,” Duan Zhen explained, increasingly convinced that Li Xi might not have regained his memories of their interactions.

The other seemed to be aware of this as well, as he had concealed it during their previous conversation.

“Can you create the main system?” Li Xi asked.

“The technology of the main system is hundreds of years ahead of ours,” Duan Zhen pondered for a moment. “Computers aren’t my forte. If Dan Zuo were here, he could provide a more detailed explanation for you.”

“I’ll talk to him when I have the chance,” Li Xi replied nonchalantly.

He turned his gaze to Duan Zhen, letting his eyes slide slowly from his stern eyebrows to his tightly pursed lips, not understanding why he was drawn to this kind of man without charm.

Drawn to the point where even with his memories sealed, occasionally watching the other would make him feel a flutter in his heart.

His mind was filled with chaotic thoughts when he was suddenly pulled by someone. Duan Zhen held him, evading a zombie that leaped out from the corner, and calmly shot it in the leg.

The creature’s mouth was open, clearly injured, but it seemed to have no sense of pain as it continued to lunge towards them.

Duan Zhen, as if expecting it, delivered two more blows to shatter its knees. The zombie collapsed to the ground, but continued to drag itself towards them.

Their nails were black and sharp, bodies unharmed, yet they walked like boneless noodles, their flesh shriveled, eyes covered with gray film, bulging outward with pupils rolling when they looked around. Sharp teeth were visible inside their gaping mouths.

Duan Zhen delivered the final shot to its head, ending its life with a headshot.

“It’s likely a branch of necromancy,” Li Xi casually analyzed while holding onto Duan Zhen’s waist, resting his head on his shoulder. Though he didn’t turn back, it seemed as if he had observed the entire process. “They’re immobilized after a head attack, indicating a weakness there. They’re agile and possess some hunting instinct.”

Duan Zhen pushed him away, paused for a moment, then extended his hand. “If you’re scared, you can hold onto me.”

“I’m not scared,” Li Xi shot him a glance and waved his sleeve. “Let’s hurry. I don’t want to be cleaning up after those people.”

The familiar feeling from the earlier embrace dissipated, leaving Duan Zhen with a faint sense of loss.

Along the way, they encountered several solitary zombies hiding in dark corners, jumping out to attack upon seeing humans. However, their small numbers didn’t hinder their progress.

“The direction should be correct,” Li Xi, feeling tired, remarked. “Why did they run so far?”

“Some might have scattered,” Duan Zhen replied. “There are still two injured among them, they probably split up to reduce pressure.”

Li Xi, fatigued, had lost much interest in the game after revealing his identity. Half of his perseverance now was for Dan Zuo, the computer expert, and the other half for Duan Zhen. He had observed Duan Zhen many times and couldn’t deny that he was the type he liked—like a gem polished countless times, increasingly perfect and radiant. He had always liked gems, liked shining souls, and encountering Duan Zhen inevitably attracted him involuntarily.

But… Duan Zhen lacked any sense of charm, and it seemed he had no feelings for him either. Being in a relationship with him would be so boring.

Li Xi sighed and suddenly poked Duan Zhen’s muscles. Duan Zhen was on alert, his muscles tense with strength. The mage, who lacked much muscle himself, clicked his tongue. “I’m tired.”

Originally, he wanted Duan Zhen to go find the others on his own while he used magic to track Dan Zuo. But before he could say anything, Duan Zhen had already turned to look at him, squatted down, and offered, “I’ll carry you.”

Li Xi’s movements paused for a moment, and he felt a few traces of sweetness inexplicably rising in his heart. He coughed a few times, blinked quickly, then climbed aboard without hesitation.

After all, Duan Zhen had offered it himself. It had nothing to do with him.

Author’s note:

Li Xi: No charm at all!

Duan Zhen voluntarily offered to carry him.

Li Xi: …Even though he lacks charm, he’s pretty good at taking care of people.
