When they caught up with the main force ahead, they stumbled upon several people surrounded by zombies in the center. Although Xia Qirong’s position within the team was that of a support, it didn’t mean he lacked combat skills. He was seen wielding a short knife, skillfully dispatching numerous zombies.

However, the number of zombies was overwhelming, as the entire city’s population had turned into them, resembling scenes from zombie apocalypse movies.

Duan Zhen’s arrival alleviated some of the pressure on them, as the zombies from the periphery were drawn towards him.

With their combined strength, they could escape from the encirclement, but it would take time. Li Xi, somewhat bored, rested his head on Duan Zhen’s back, hands gripping his shoulders, and glanced at Dan Zuo to ensure he was unharmed before saying, “Let’s leave after resting.”

“What do we do next?” Duan Zhen asked him.

“We break through the illusion and complete the mission,” Li Xi said with a hint of weariness. “It’s not interesting anymore.”

Duan Zhen nodded, seemingly lost in thought, without speaking.

“Keep walking straight out of the city from here,” Li Xi directed him. “This is a large-scale illusion formation, and the focal point is outside the city.”

The others followed them as they walked. Dan Zuo looked down at the energy collection device in his hand. Perhaps because of Li Xi’s use of power, the energy fluctuations on it were more intense than before.

Unfortunately, they hadn’t seen Hewlett when they first arrived, so they couldn’t know if this energy fluctuation was due to the Demon King.

While Duan Zhen harbored suspicions about Li Xi’s identity, Xia Qirong didn’t think much about it. Seeing Duan Zhen carrying Li Xi on his back and pulling Sun Le aside to whisper, he asked, “Has Li Xi regained his memory?”

“He mentioned the mission just now,” Sun Le said, but with a hint of hesitation in his gaze. “But something feels off.”

Dan Zuo added, “Indeed, he seems different from before.”

As a psychic, he had much stronger intuition than an average person. If he said so, it was probably close to the truth.

“So, did Brother Duan reveal everything to him?” Xia Qirong scratched his head. “Why is Brother Duan so close to the Demon King?”

“Li Xi’s stamina isn’t good,” Sun Le pondered for a moment, unable to come up with a better explanation.

In fact, he guessed quite accurately. Li Xi not only got tired easily and demanded to be carried, but also kept asking Duan Zhen to adjust his posture constantly to ensure his comfort.

As he made Duan Zhen move him higher, he sternly warned in his ear, “Don’t touch me randomly.”

Duan Zhen supported his thighs and lifted him up slightly. Upon hearing this, he felt a bit helpless, but a smile involuntarily tugged at the corners of his mouth.

Li Xi, suspiciously, asked, “What are you laughing at?”

“Nothing,” Duan Zhen shook his head. “You rarely speak to me like this.”

The previous Li Xi would blush just from being hugged, let alone displaying such a temper.

Li Xi muttered something incomprehensible.

“We’re almost there,” after walking for so long, the city gate was now within reach. Li Xi closed his eyes and sensed, “The focal point is about a kilometer ahead.”

“That’s…” Duan Zhen looked at the direction he pointed to, feeling somewhat familiar.

“It’s the hunting ground,” Li Xi said.

Seeing the hunting ground, the faces of the other two members of the team didn’t look good, clearly reminded of their deceased leader.

As they approached the area, Duan Zhen set Li Xi down, and the young master adjusted his black robe before lifting his chin with dignity. “Let’s go.”

“Didn’t I tell you to wait inside the house? Why did you run out?” Duan Zhen asked.

“It was me. I saw the guy who killed our captain,” the crew-cut guy said through gritted teeth. “Even though his appearance changed, I still recognized him at a glance. He was lurking near the entrance, and I couldn’t resist.”

Just that they didn’t expect that, even though they managed to fight him off with difficulty, more zombies came, and even hiding back in the room couldn’t change anything, so they had to look for opportunities outside.

“I didn’t hear your fight,” Duan Zhen frowned.

“Neither did I,” Li Xi said, “I guess Hewlett tampered with the study, like casting a soundproofing spell.”

He sounded very casual, indicating a deep familiarity with Hewlett, which reminded everyone of his current identity.

Even though the crew-cut guy knew this was just a role-play, he couldn’t help but ask, “Why are you hosting this kind of game? Are you deriving pleasure from our lives?”

Due to the fear of the power of the Demon King, the crew-cut guy didn’t dare to be too confrontational in his wording.

Li Xi glanced at him, not refuting but rather nodding in agreement. “More or less, don’t you find it interesting?”

The crew-cut guy widened his eyes, seeming about to say something sarcastic, but immediately got pulled back by his teammate.

“Don’t act rashly, it’s not real,” his teammate firmly held him back.

Listening to his words, the crew-cut guy reluctantly calmed down, but still glared fiercely at Li Xi.

“Death is not necessarily the end,” Li Xi said nonchalantly, leaving behind this inexplicable remark before continuing forward.

“I feel like I’ve heard that phrase somewhere before,” Xia Qirong muttered.

As the topic of death arose, the atmosphere seemed much heavier, and no one spoke along the way, maintaining silence until they entered the hunting ground.

Here, everything seemed different from outside, with even the air feeling fresher.

The leaves were lush and green, almost unreal.

“It’s changed,” Duan Zhen suddenly said. “It wasn’t like this before.”

“The focal point is absorbing life force,” Li Xi said calmly. “Each time someone dies, it becomes stronger. Fortunately, until now, we’ve only lost one person, or else the external creatures would be much stronger.”

It was also fortunate that this was just a fake world; if it were real, the person who set up the formation would definitely sacrifice many more lives to accumulate the power of the formation, trapping them here.

Those self-righteous people, in Li Xi’s eyes, were no different from the Demon King, or even dirtier.

Ignoring how the others interpreted his words, Li Xi carefully inspected the hunting ground.

The entire area was the focal point, and it needed to be completely destroyed to leave.

“You all should leave,” he said, turning to Duan Zhen.

Duan Zhen nodded, but seeing that Li Xi showed no intention of leaving, he asked, “What about you?”

Li Xi shrugged. “I’m going to destroy this, it’s easier for you to be outside and you’d be less likely to be accidentally injured.”

Duan Zhen frowned, looking somewhat uneasy. Li Xi just smiled and said, “You know my identity. This kind of thing won’t harm me.”

After everyone had left, Li Xi stood in place, murmuring incantations.

As time passed, the azure sky began to turn blood red, making everyone uneasy as they looked up to understand what new trouble was happening. Suddenly, Duan Zhen’s expression changed. “Get back!”

The team reacted quickly, pulling the other two members and quickly retreating several hundred meters. But Duan Zhen rushed into the hunting ground. His speed was astonishing, like a nimble cheetah. In almost the blink of an eye, he dashed out a hundred meters and saw Li Xi’s figure in the distance.

Li Xi was still standing where he was, one hand raised upward. His black robe flowed like water, swaying in the wind.

Countless meteors in the sky were getting closer and closer, from a single point at the beginning to massive spherical shapes. They could even see the uneven surface on top.

Duan Zhen rushed to the center of the hunting ground, and Li Xi was caught off guard, mouth slightly agape, looking somewhat dumbfounded.

But soon, he reacted, feeling a bit incredulous for the first time. “Why did you run in?!”

Even in the howling wind, his words were still clearly heard by Duan Zhen.

Duan Zhen didn’t speak, just holding him and running outward. But human strength couldn’t resist the speed of falling meteorites. The massive shockwave came, and Duan Zhen protected Li Xi under him, rolling on the ground together several times before stopping.

Li Xi promptly used magic to block the flying debris, being tightly held by the man, his throat moved, not knowing what to say for a moment.

It wasn’t until the storm subsided that Duan Zhen pulled him up from the ground. He said, “Do you think a mage’s spell would harm them?”

“I don’t know,” Duan Zhen shook his head, then asked, “Why did you choose this spell?”

“You don’t think I deliberately used the same spell to seek death, do you?” Li Xi raised an eyebrow.

Duan Zhen instinctively denied it, but couldn’t explain why his first reaction was to rush in and hold Li Xi instead of retreating with the team. He naturally understood that Li Xi wouldn’t seek death, nor would his own spell harm him, but at that moment, he hardly thought of anything else, just faced with the meteorites, he shielded the person beneath him.

Li Xi seemed to want to say something, judging from the smile on his face, probably a teasing remark. But in the end, he didn’t say anything, just said, “It’s over.”

The sky tore apart, and everything around them turned into illusions, dissipating into dots of light in the air. The next moment, Duan Zhen and the others stood in a pile of ruins.
