The mother was somewhere in her thirties and was holding a written silk tie in her hand. The daughter who looked about five or six years old was in a princess dress and was holding a doll in her arms.

“Manman, let’s pray for your sister.” The lady spoke gently to the little girl.

“Mm. I hope big sister would get better immediately.” The little girl quickly made her wish while folding her hands together and then formally bowed three times at the Fanyin tree.

Wishing for the quick recovery of your elder sister like that was a bit too lazy, but they were ordinary people, so they never learned the trick behind wishes. Mi Wan internally quipped as she concentrated on shovelling. She could see that she had reached the roots when suddenly, a soft and childish voice piped up beside Mi Wan.

“Fat big sis, what are you doing?”

Mi Wan turned, and discovered the little girl from just now that somehow appeared by her side, “Big sis is good enough, why did you have to yell ‘Fat big sis’?” You are a chubby kid yourself, but Mi Wan saved that insult as a last resort and did not say that out loud.

“Big sister.” The little girl was pretty self-aware and when she heard the displeasure in Mi Wan’s voice, she immediately corrected herself.

“Mm, I’m digging a tree.” Mi Wan continued to dig. There were only a few more swings. She was almost done digging.

“Are you digging it up to grow it at home?” The little girl asked curiously.

“Yep.” She has finally finished digging. Putting down the shovel, Mi Wan grabbed the trunk of the small tree sapling with both hands, and with one great force, pulled the tree sapling out of the hole.

“Shalalala…”

Suddenly, a sky filled with leaves descended like snow on their heads. Mi Wan had not even raised her head when the little girl beside her shrieked.

“Mama, Mama, the wishing tree is dead.” The little girl hugged her doll with a scared face.

Mi Wan looked up to find the Fanyin tree had instantly lost half of its leaves, the green branches were visibly drying up and turning black under the naked eye. There was a trail of black climbing from the roots all the way to the branches like poison.

The hell, what is going on? What have I done?

Mi Wan took one look at the Fanyin tree’s sapling in her hand, and then deliberately placed it back into the hole. The moment the Fanyin tree’s sapling was moved back into the hole, the leaves stopped falling and the blackening trunk gradually returned to its green hue, as if that momentary image was nothing but an illusion.

“Manman, what’s wrong?” The girl’s mother was in the process of tying up their wish when she heard her daughter’s screams and turned to look, her hands moved quicker than usual.

“Shh!” Mi Wan raised her head and noticed the little girl was staring at her with her eyes wide, obviously witnessing what she had done before.

“Big Sister, you killed the wishing tree.” The little girl definitely saw it.

“I did not. Don’t talk nonsense.” Mi Wan felt a strange sense of guilt. Wasn’t she just digging up a sapling? Why would the main body die? Did I accidentally hurt it while I was digging? Mi Wan carefully looked around the small hole she had just dug up and confirmed that she did not hurt the main body.

“But just now…”

“Manman, what were you saying?” The girl’s mother finished tying the red silk tie and walked towards the little girl to figure out the situation.

“Just now, it was because your wish was too big, so the wishing tree lost so many leaves in order to grant your wish.” Mi Wan quickly said.

“Really?” The little girl naively widened her eyes, wondering: If my wish caused the wishing tree to die, then does this mean my sister’s illness couldn’t be treated?

“Yep.” Facing the little girl’s innocent face, Mi Wan felt a pang in her heart.

Is my conscience hurting?

“Then big sister, what should I do?” The little girl’s eyes instantly reddened with tears, showing how much she cared for her sister.

“Don’t cry. Come back tomorrow and make a new wish. Don’t wish for your sister to recover quickly. Wishes should be specific. If your sister lacks something, wish for that instead.” The Fanyin tree had to cater to too many wishes every day, and while it could give its blessings to those prayers, its blessings were limited. That was why the more specific the wish and the more detailed, the chances of it coming true were higher.

“Daddy said that my sister is waiting for an especially skilled doctor,” the little girl said.

“Then you should make that wish. Wish for a doctor that can cure your sister to quickly appear,” Mi Wan replied.

“Manman?” At this moment, the girl’s mother arrived, “What were you saying just now?”

“Mama, have you tied the wish?” The little girl forgot about telling her mother what she just saw and anxiously asked.

“It’s tied. Let’s go home.” The lady came over to take her daughter’s hand.

“Mama, I also want to write one and tie it ” the little girl suddenly said.

“Sure.” Seeing her young daughter so concerned over her sister, she naturally did not object and returned to the car to pick out another silk tie, and asked, “What do you want to write on it?”

“I hope that the doctor that big sister was waiting for quickly appears,” the little girl replied quickly.

“Okay, let’s hang it.” The woman walked back under the tree and tied the new silk tie on its branches.

Watching her mother hang it, the little girl turned to glance at Mi Wan, as if looking for a confirmation. When Mi Wan saw that, she quickly gave a few solemn nods.

“Manman, let’s go now.” The lady clasped her daughter’s hand and left. The little girl turned to take another look at Mi Wan and waved good-naturedly.

Mi Wan stoically waved back, waited for them to walk far away until she could no longer see them, and immediately plucked out the sapling once more.

“Shalalala…”

Another shower of leaves fell to the ground nearly buried Mi Wan, leaving the tree completely bald. The original half-withered-half-healthy Fanyin tree was now completely withered with no sign of life.

Mi Wan turned around deliberately, and luckily, the milk tea shop owner had closed shop.

But what should I do with this tree?

Kneeling beside the hole, with one hand holding the Fanyin tree’s sapling, and the other holding a small shovel, Mi Wan felt like she had just created a crime scene.

What the hell is going on here???

“Help me…”

Mi Wan dashed towards the demon tree bro’s house without stopping and banged on his door. At the third knock, the door immediately opened. Dressed in a pair of slippers and a robe, Fan Chen wore a surprised expression as he looked at the girl in pink pyjamas.

“What’s wrong?” Fan Chen asked.

“Save me…no…Save the tree…” Mi Wan trembled as she moved the carefully cradled Fanyin tree sapling in her arms before the demon bro in front of her.

If there was anyone good at saving trees, it would obviously be her neighbor, Fan Chen.
