Chapter hundred and five: Jamie killed a boar

Jamie rode on the horse she borrowed from the stables to the hunting ground. She knew that by now, every noble man with vigor and something to prove was in the walking distance of her destination.

When she got there, it wasn't hard to spot Alexander. There was absolutely no one like him with his brown pants and red tunic, he was tracking the boar with the rest of the hunting crew.

Everyone was allowed a chance at the boar but traditionally, a King always ends up killing the creature. Everyone watched with rapt attention as the king attempt to do this almost impossible feat from an impossible distance.

Alexander slowed his breath and he blinked when it was absolutely necessary. The only trick to making a shot from that distance was patience and he had a bucket load of it.

He narrowed his right eye just a little bit before he let the arrow go.

He saw the boar go down and his knights riding towards it to confirm the kill. They were supposed to bring back his arrow dripping in the boar's blood as proof of kill and if he didn't kill it, other kings and royalties were allowed to take a shot.

Alexander heard his knights cheer loudly as they brought back the arrow, waving it in the air like it was a trophy handed to them to spite their opponents.

Alexander took one look at the arrow and he knew. It wasn't his. The arrow was identical and it was from his weaponry but it wasn't his. While the rest of his crew celebrated and some went ahead to hunting more bush animals, King Alexander rode towards the dead boar.

He climbed down from the horse and moved closer to the dead animal. He had a feeling that he wasn't alone there. He turned his ear slightly to his left towards the huge tree standing in the middle of his vicinity. He could hear horse beat and when he turned he could make out the shadow behind there.

Alexander returned his attention to the boar. He knew sooner or later, it would be revealed to him whether the shadow was friend or foe.

He saw his own arrow laying on the ground a little distance to the boar.

It wasn't what made him apprehensive, what made Alexander apprehensive was that the arrow was split into two. Someone made the shot and their arrow went through his own and yet the boar was dead.

Alexander stood up immediately. He would consider someone that made the impossible shot, dangerous and he needed to be on alert.

He climbed on top of the horse and rode towards the big tree. Then he saw him.

A little sized man with such talent and speed. He ran and Alexander chased after him.

He was surprised that even though the man had mastered the art of archery, he appeared to have almost no working knowledge of horse riding. He almost caught him under a minute.

Alexander took the right trail instead of following him behind and ended up cutting him off.

The Archer didn't accept defeat easily instead he came down from the horse and pulled out a dagger and pointed it at him. Alexander could easily shoot him with an arrow and be done with it but he had way too much honor to do that and he was curious to see what the little man was capable of.

He climbed down too but instead of taking his dagger too, he picked up a stick and waited for him to attack.

The little man tilted his head to his left and then his right. He secured his dagger in his shealt and picked up a stick.

Alexander was puzzled but he still had to defend himself when he came at him. At first he thought it would be easy to defeat him but he put up quite a fight and he was force to put some effort in the fight. He struck his shoulder then he went for his abdomen but the little man deflected it and succeeded in hitting his jaw with the stick drawing blood.

Big mistake! Alexander grabbed the stick tightly and attacked for the first time, it was time to stop playing defense. He disarmed him in no time and even landed a revenge punch on the cheek, the covering on the little man's face came off.

First, he saw the blood on the split lip and then he saw her face. Alexander froze and the stick fell out of his hand.

"Your highness" Jamie said in a way of greeting.

Alexander still had a frozen look.

"Janessa?"

Alexander whispered unbelievably, he still was trying to wrap his mind around the fact that he had...he had struck his wife. He struck his wife!

"Have you gone mad?!" Alexander yelled at her.

"No" her laughter echoed through the forest. It was the most fun she had had in a while.

"That was amazing, don't you think Alexander?" Jamie was like a child that unwrapped a present and found their wildest dream in it.

"What was amazing about any of this?!" Alexander felt his stomach twist. He was going to throw up "I could have bloody killed you, Janessa!"

Jamie rubbed her lips as her eyes lit up with even more excitement "But you didn't instead you fought me like an equal!"

Jamie was over the moon. She had fought the man rumoured to be the devil and she held her own.

Alexander moved closer and simply lifted her up and place her over his shoulder. Jamie screamed all through asking him to stop but when she saw that her screams and pleads to be returned to the ground was unheard. She relaxed and conversed from the place she was.

"Teach me that move you used to disarm me" She asked her furious husband.

"No" Alexander whispered begrudgingly. He was angry that he didn't even stop to think that it would be easier to take the horse than carrying her by foot.

"Alexander that was amazing! Did you see me fight out there? I drew first blood, you can't deny that and I also killed your boar effortlessly"

Alexander ignored her and kept walking. He had to get her as far away from the hunting ground as possible. He decided to take her to their private cabin, the place he placed her when she was thrown by a horse.

Jamie chatted heartily without waiting for a reply. She should be dizzy with the way he was carrying her but she and Ursla, her best friend and lady's maid had spent most of their time in the forest upside down anyway.

"You and I can pick a time to practice fighting! I haven't trained in weeks and I am getting rusty. With practice, I could beat you in no time, right?....right?"

Alexander placed her down on the ground finally.

He had his reasons. He couldn't exactly be seen carrying a man into his cabin and it hardly mattered that the man was his wife and he had no urge to explain it to anyone.

He watched her. The bleeding from the split lips had stopped. He let out a breath. He struck his wife! How was he supposed to deal with that.

"Keep your head down as we walk in, Okay?" He advised her and she nodded her head.

"Stay here while I send the guards away"

Alexander went ahead first and he ordered all the guards back to the castle and a few were posted not very far from the cabin.

Alexander came back for her. Jamie walked behind him as they entered the cabin. She watched his tensed body and the way he walked with unease like he had a great burden to his person.

"Are you not happy to see me?" Jamie asked him once they were inside the room.

The question made his anger disappear but only temporary. He turned and grabbed her shoulders. He rubbed it in a soothing manner.

"Of course, I am happy to see you but you crashed the hunting party and broke years and years old tradition, Janessa. I am king. It's my responsibility to uphold such traditions. How do you think I feel about your blatant disregard for it" Alexander's voice wasn't raised.

"I am sorry. I just had to see you"

Alexander felt the rest of the anger melt away. He moved closer to her. He tried to keep his joy in check as he did. There was no reason why he should display how he was actually feeling in her presence. Kings were required to master the art of keeping their emotions in check. He let out a breathe again.

He touch her cheek kindly and affectionately before he let out a breathe. How was he supposed to be angry that his wife wanted him.

"Sweetheart, I know you missed me and I miss you to-"

Alexander was cut off by Jamie.

"No.. That's not why I came. I came to stop you from killing sir Judd"
