Chapter hundred and eight: You have to get married

Jamie watched him as he turned and went back into the pitch darkness, she could hear the rustling of dry leaves as he walked on them.

She turned back to the castle in front of her and she walked in on her own still dressed like a man. Getting to her room without drawing attention to herself was paramount. Jamie had to hid from servants and knights on way to the Queen's quarter.

Rachael was there when she entered her room. She looked like she had been crying. Her face had dried tear stains and her eyes appeared muddied under the glow lamp. She was on her feet immediately.

"Your majesty"

Jamie started undressing even before Rachael reached her. She had a small window of time before it was considered inappropriate to go to another Queen's room and she needed to talk to Eileen.

"Will the king spare him, Milady?" Rachael worked fast on the cuff links.

"There is a solution Rachael but you are not going to like it" Jamie wondered whether the poor girl would feel relieved or enraged on the solution. "I have good news and bad news, Rachael"

Rachael opened the wardrobe to take a dress, she didn't want the queen to see the anxious look on her face and her heart was beating so fast that she thought she would pass out.

"What is the good news, your majesty?" Rachael choose an ash color dress that was simple to wear.

"I found a way to keep Judd alive"

"Oh thank God" Rachael let out the breath she didn't even know she was holding in.

"But the bad news is he has to marry the Queen of Koi" Jamie decided it was better to be blunt. She didn't have the time to ease Rachael to her new reality.

Rachael stopped moving. It was like she was momentarily frozen in time reliving the same moment over and over again.

"But...b-but I love him" Rachael admitted out loud for the first time to someone other than herself.

"I know but it's the only way. But hurry up, I need to get the Queen of Koi to agree to this nuptials or all these would have been in vain and Judd would die"

Rachael urged her feet forward but they refused to obey her command instead she stood there trying to get over the shock of her life.

"Rachael! You have to snap out of it right this second! This is not time to grief" Jamie yelled at her and miraculously her limbs obeyed her.

She took the dress to the Queen and helped her dress up. Jamie was out the door as soon as her feet hit her shoes.

Jamie walky hurriedly to the Queen's Chamber. She knocked and opened the door. Eileen was still staring out the window like she did earlier.

Immediately she saw Jamie she stood up. She was very anxious and she couldn't stand still.

"Any news, Jamie?"

Jamie suddenly felt reluctant and taken aback. She just realized she was about to do to Eileen what was done to her. She was about to wreck her life.

"Jamie, please talk to me. Can we save Luther from execution?"

Jamie sat down on a stool and asked Eileen to sit too.

"Well, did you?" Eileen asked impatiently.

"I did but you are not going to like it"

Eileen knew by experience that when someone tells her she wasn't going to like the outcome of something, she should believe them. She cleared her throat and braced herself for impact. She would rather Jamie just be as blunt as possible.

"Be blunt, Jamie...I deal with Information better if it's not....just be blunt" Eileen asked of her.

Jamie stretched her neck by turning it left and then right.

"To save Judd, you have to marry him" That was as blunt as she could be.

"There is no other way than to be trapped with a man who would resent me even if this whole mess was his fault to begin with?" Then it dawned on Eileen, she was going to resent Judd for trapping her too.

"Was this the better you could come up with?" Eileen asked Jamie.

"I am sorry but it's the only option or Judd dies" Jamie reminded her.

Eileen thought about it for a while. She could convince herself that she wasn't at fault and his blood was not going to be on her hands. She could simply tell her knights that they would be leaving the west at first light and let the west deal with her problem. She could do a million and one things but only one thing was the right thing.

"Okay"

"Okay?" Jamie was surprised and possibly confused.

"Okay. If it's the only way to save his life, I will make him my consort....I will marry Judd"

Jamie was suddenly speechless. She had prepared for her to object and she was prepared to make Eileen see reason but she didn't prepare what to say when she says yes to her proposal.

Jamie stood up from the stool. She wasn't happy about her accomplishment, she was just...sad.

"I am sorry, Queen Eileen"

Jamie gave the young queen time to feel in private.

When she got back to the room, Rachael was still there. She didn't ask her what the Queen's reply was. Rachael simply helped her change into a night dress.

"Rachael..."

"I know. The Queen accepted"

Jamie wondered whether the girl followed her and eavesdropped on her and Eileen.

"I know she accepted because no woman would reject Sir Judd and her marriage to him grants her a stronger relationship with the biggest kingdom in Derkal"

James knew She wasn't supposed to apologize to Rachael. It wasn't Jamie's fault but she considered Rachael an ally and she was currently suffering.

"Sorry Rachael... Sometimes good people pay for other people's mistake. Sometimes, a sister you love leaves and you are left to clean her mess.. Sometimes a man you loves makes a terrible mistake and you are left with the sharp side of a blade. Sorry, Rachael"
