Chapter hundred and fourteen: I can't wait to go home, now.

Alexander knew then that something was wrong. His sister had done something to Janessa and he wanted to know what.

"What did you do, Rose?"

"I laced her cup with a sleeping portion. Now you don't have to look like you sitting on a bag of pins anymore"

Alexander tilted his head to the side. Did he just hear his sister correctly?

"Have you gone insane, Rosemund? Are you so far gone that you would dare drug the Queen of Aradale?!"

Alexander touched her cheek even went as far as to pinch it but she was out cold.

"At least now, you don't have to worry about her knowing she was so close to home"

Alexander touched Jamie's cheeks again.

"You gave my wife a sleeping portion? Have you lost your mind?" Alexander was still very furious with Rosemund.

"I didn't kill her. She is just asleep, Xander"

The rest of the trip was in silence. Jamie slept while comfortably rested on Alexander's chest. The siblings avoided talking to each other.

Slowly the carriage came to a halt. Alexander wondered why and he placed Jamie's head to lean against the carriage as he decided to check it out.

Immediately, Alexander left the carriage. Jamie opened her eyes and stared at Rosemund.

Rosemund blinked. There was no way Jamie should be awake with the amount of sleeping portion she laced her cup with. She swallowed silently as she stared right into the Queen's eye and she understood that the Queen wasn't sleeping even when she was arguing with her brother about drugging her with a sleeping portion.

Rosemund could feel her heart starting to pound just a little bit faster and she was doing that thing with her left foot where she taps it insistently to calm herself down.

"How?" It was the only question Rosemund could think to ask Jamie.

Jamie stood up from the side of the carriage she was sitting and joined the crown princess.

"I changed the cup you laced with a sleeping portion earlier in the day" Jamie answered her with a blank face.

Rosemund felt a sharp pointy object directed at her abdomen. She looked down and she saw a silver dagger pressed to that part of her body.

"How did you know I was going to lace your cup, Princes Jamie?" For someone that was being threatened, Rosemund kept a straight face. She turned her face forward and stared right at the empty seat in front of her.

But she was terrified on the inside. Her mind kept going to worst case scenario. She kept seeing herself on the floor of the carriage bleeding profusely from dagger impaled in her abdomen.

She blinked severally to take away the image.

"How did you know of my plans?" Rosemund asked again.

"I have a guardian angel" It was the only reply Jamie could give her.

She couldn't exactly tell the crown princess that she had no idea who slipped a note into her chambers that morning telling her about the princess's plan and how the answer Alexander was going to get for her was in the eastern hemisphere near her kingdom.

Jamie knew that it was her only chance to escape then and she was going to take it. And damn the consequences.

The note also said that the knights will be taken care of and all Jamie needed to do to escape was take the crown princess hostage. Alexander would never put his sister's life in jeopardy.

"Are you going to kill me?" Rosemund asked her at last. It was the only question that kept the fear in her.

"Killing you is insanity since your brother will scout the entire world for revenge but I am not beyond hurting you"

Jamie heard Alexander yell from the outside "We are under attack!"

She knew it was her cue to make a move.

"Stand up, your royal highness. We are going to take a walk. May I suggest you don't make any sudden movement like yelling or struggling, the dagger is sharp and I hate for an accident to occur"

Rosemund nodded and slowly she opened the carriage door and stepped outside. Jamie was right behind her.

Alexander had his sword out but the rest of the knights were on the ground.

"Are they dead?" Jamie asked from behind the princess. Alexander was yet to see the blade pointed at his sister.

"No. Just unconscious...darts" Alexander answered and pulled out a dart from the neck of one of his knights to show them.

"Go back into the carriage, whomever did this isn't far from here" Alexander ordered.

"I am sorry"

Alexander was surprised. Why was his Queen apologizing for something she had no control over? His question was answered as Jamie stepped out from behind Rosemund and the dagger became visible.

"What are you doing, Janessa?" Alexander asked her. He gripped the sword even tighter.

"I am sorry, Alexander. I just want to go home" Janessa felt her eyes heavy with tears threatening to stream down her face at any minute.

"And you are willing to kill my sister to achieve that?" Alexander asked her.

"Maybe...but I don't want to find out and I don't think you want me to too"

"Let her go. She is innocent on this matter" Alexander reasoned with her. He felt cold and unfeeling. He should be enraged or sad but he just felt nothing and his feet felt cold.

Jamie walked towards a horse on her right dragging the princess with her.

"Take the rope!" She ordered the princess as her head gestured towards the rope on the horse. Rosemund did as she was told.

"Tie one end to the horse, please"

Rosemund obeyed without a fuss.

"Don't do this, Jamie" Alexander spoke softly to her. "I really thought things were better between us"

"It was but you knew I always wanted to go home, didn't you Alex?" Jamie asked him.

When Rosemund was done tying the rope to the horse she took her hand away.

"Tie the other end of the rope to your leg, Rosemund. One leg would do and make it tight"

"Wait! No! Are you insane? Something might spook the horse and she would be drag to her death!" Alexander wasn't calm anymore.

"You are right. Stop for now Rosemund"

Alexander was relieved for a minute until Jamie spoke again.

"Alexander will take your place. Drop your weapons and tie yourself to the horse!"

"No!" Rosemund protested violently causing the dagger to draw a little blood.

Alexander saw it.

"Rose, stop moving! Just be still" Alexander watched as the princess became quiet. "You do realize that if you do this, we are over!" Alexander yelled angrily at her.

"Yes"

"And I won't come for you. If you do this Janessa, we might as well be strangers to each other"

Jamie hesitated from answering. She didn't know why but she didn't like the idea of being strangers with Alexander. Yet slowly she whispered yes.

With her focus momentarily distracted by Alexander, her finger went to the sharp dagger and it drew blood.

Then she saw it. A little girl in a raging river struggling to get herself to the shore. It was a flash and then the image was gone. Then Jamie realized what just happened. She had seen the princess's past.

She was getting over the shock of her vision when Alexander tried to move closer to disarm her. She saw him.

"Do you really want to put your sister's life in jeopardy, your highness?"

Alexander stopped and moved to the horse instead. He tied himself to it.

"I gave you everything you wanted"

"What I wanted most was my freedom, Alexander" Jamie answered him.

"Well, now you are free. I won't come after you if you let my sister go"

"You are trying to trick me but it won't work" Jamie wanted to believe him but she couldn't. There was no way a man that had strongly and repeatedly told her that he would never let her go suddenly promise to never try to capture her again.

"No. You have my word that as long as you stay out of the West, I won't take revenge for this moment, I won't come for you and I won't feel anything for you again but if I see you in the West, you will be executed for treason. Leave Rosemund and go. We are strangers as of this moment, Princess Jamie of Namura. The west and your kingdom are no more allies. Take the horse and go"

Jamie felt a sharp pain in her chest and a need to throw up. That moment wasn't as fun as she pictured it to be.

Slowly she took away the dagger from the princess. And pushed her into the carriage.

She climbed on the horse but before she took off. She stared at Alexander one more time.

He held her gaze but he didn't show any emotion.

Jamie opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out.. She turned towards Namura and she fled.
