Chapter hundred and fifteen: It's been a long way

Jamie rode for almost thirty minutes before she realized that she was in tears. And worse, she couldn't explain it. So, she decided to blame the wind behind her.

A moment later she was hearing the sound of bells. She was finally approaching Namura. She was finally free.

Even though she knew she should head back to the castle first, she saw herself nudging the horse towards the little cabin she lived in for years in exile. It was highly unlikely but she hoped to see Ursla there.

Pushing Alexander to the back of her mind, she stopped the horse and came down. The white silky dress she wore was getting stained by the red soil of Namura but Jamie didn't care. She kept walking until she got to the wooden door.

The door looked the same to her. Four weeks seemed like a life time ago but to the door knob, it was like no time had passed. It made Jamie worry.

What if every person she knows was still the same and she has changed so much. She pushed the door open, and caught her reflection on the mirror near the window.

Jamie let out a breathe. There was no mistake, she did change.

Four weeks ago, she wouldn't be standing there in a white dress, instead she would comfortably be dressed in pants and tunic.

Four weeks ago, she was a virgin whose only purpose in life was to be the greatest warrior Namura had ever seen, to be a knight and Queen regnant. She didn't worry about the scars on her body or how to walk elegantly as not to trip on her own foot. She was plain old Jamie, pure and simple.

"Aradale will be a distant memory, soon" Jamie spoke out loud like she was self soothing. She picked up a blade from the table and accidentally knocked over a cup filled with pins. She could pick them up or Ignore it. Jamie ignored it but she watched as the pins scattered in different directions.

She stood in front of the mirror to rip the dress off of her body but Jamie couldn't bring herself to do it.

The white silk dress was all she had left to remember Aradale by.

Turning around, she opened the door and climbed on the horse. Her next stop, the castle.

Jamie slowed the horse considerably as she approached the castle.

Something was different about the whole place. It had more knights stationed at every stragetic positions and the gate was locked. Namura never locks her gate.

Jamie wondered why until she remembered she was kidnapped from the castle and her father must have blamed himself so much that he locked the castle's gate and knighted more nobles to guard Namura and find his daughter.

And for the first since she crossed into the Eastern hemisphere, Jamie smiled.

She moved closer to the gate. She could see the gate keeper now.

"Who are you and what business do you have in the castle?" The keeper asked without looking up from the scroll he was holding.

This was the easy part. All she needed to do was say her name and go back to the life she wanted. This was the life she wants now...right?

"Okay, name...I am princess Jamie. I live in the castle"

The keeper scoffed and repeated his question like Jamie was full of jokes.

"For the last time, state your name and business you have with the castle?"

"I am princess Jamie of Namura. You would see that if you bothered to look at me" Jamie wasn't finding it funny.

The keeper looked up and stared at her for a while. He had a blank demeanor.

"Lady, you should turn your horse and head back to wherever you are coming from. Blasphemy is a serious crime"

It dawned on Jamie that most people had no knowledge of how she looked. She was exiled, remember?

Taking the necklace from her neck, Jamie came down from the horse and showed it to the keeper. It was the symbol of the house of Namura.

The keeper took the necklace and looked at it for the first time. His eyes widened in shock.

"I am sorry, your majesty" he took the bell before him and rang it twice. "Open the gate! Open the gate!"

Jamie took the necklace from him begrudgingly. He would surely pay for his rudeness later.

Picking up the helm of her gown Jamie took off in a run leaving the horse behind. She was certain that the sourly looking keeper would care for the horse as if his life depended on it.

The first place Jamie rushed to as soon as she entered the castle was the king's court. She was almost sure her father would be there.

She walked through the hallway, she even stopped once to admire the little things. The new stone carving that was lined at every pillar of the hallway and new curtains that was soft to touch. It reminded her of something. Jamie didn't know what.

She resumed her journey to the king's court walking pass servants and maids who looked happy to see her.

But she couldn't help but notice that they spoke to each other in whispers as soon as she turned her back on them. Soon, she was standing in the king's court but it was empty.

She turned around and walked out almost colliding with her old lady's maid, Annabelle.

"My Lady?" Annabelle looked both surprised and delighted.

"Hello, Annabelle"

"Everyone is delighted to see you, my lady. I thought the servants were peddling false rumors, again. I had to see for myself"

"It's a delight too, Annabelle but I have to find my family. Where is Papa?" Jamie asked

"The King...I don't know where he is, my lady but the crown prince is in the training ground behind the castle"

"Thank you, Anna!"

"Do you want me -"

Jamie didn't wait for Annabelle to complete her sentence when she took off again.

Elliott fought two of his best knights at once. He was competing in a tournament in the next kingdom and he needed some training.

As the crown prince and lead knight, being the best was not actually an option. It was required. His father told him so himself. Perfection was the goal and Elliot wanted to touch the sky.

His only blemish was his apparent love for anything that walks in a dress. He loved it so much that he excell at it. Ladies hardly say no to his advances, each thinking they had the power to change him.

Elliott always got wanted he wanted and his women eventually embrace reality. They eventually realize they can't change something written in stone but somehow, he always ends up on a good note with everyone.

He was almost done disarming one knight when Jamie walked inside. He froze for a moment then he smiled... brightly.

"Jamie! You came home!"

Jamie lost it and went after him.

"You son of the devil! How dare you!"

It took Jamie time to wrap her head around the fact that her own brother would help an outsider kidnap her and force her into a marriage she did not want.

Elliott recognized the rage in her eyes well enough. He first saw that look in her eyes when she was four and he was about ten years of age and he accidentally stepped on her wooden sword and broke it.

Elliott still remember the pain that went through him when she sunk her teeth on his thigh in an effort to take a Chunk. And it looked like she was about to do the same thing now.

"Everyone out!" Elliott ordered everyone as he dogded the shield that she threw that somehow went directly for his head.

"Jamie, what did I do? I thought marriage would make you less of a lunatic, I guess..."

He didn't finish his statement as another wooden stick was sent his way.

He jumped out of the way "You are crazy but what did I do this time?"

The fact that he was playing clueless with her instead of owning up to his actions infuriated Jamie even more.

Jamie picked up a sword and pointed it at him.

"Oh wow, now you want to fight me with a sword! That is real mature, Janessa!"

The fact that he called her by her full name reminded her of Alexander and it made her mad. She rushed at him with her sword expecting him to fight her but Elliott dropped his sword instead and stared at her.

Jamie directed her sword to his shoulder expecting him to defend himself but he didn't. Jamie stopped the attack at the last second before the sword sliced through his skin.

"Pick up your sword, Elliott!"

"No! I am not fighting my baby sister. If you want to hurt me, then go ahead but I do not remember doing anything to warrant such hostility from you"

Jamie dropped the sword and pushed his chest.

"You are supposed to be my older brother. It's your job to protect me!" Jamie felt the tears fall down her cheeks "Instead, you sold me. You sold me out, you dimwit!"

Elliott's face was blank.

"What the hell are you talking about?"
