Chapter hundred and sixteen: Don't you dare lie to me.

"Don't you dare lie to me, Elliott! Don't dare play clueless either. You are my brother but I...I can't...just forget it"

Jamie turned to walk out when Elliott grabbed her hand and pull her back. They had always had a turbulent relationship and never showed each other their soft side but underneath the whole shenanigans, she was his little sister. The brother he never had and he would move the earth to do anything for both his siblings.

Elliott was the one that gave Jamie her first wooden sword. He was the one who allowed her practice in his room when she was younger. As a little girl they were close until they weren't. Jamie grew up and he had responsibility. He didn't even know it until he woke up one morning to realize, she didn't need him anymore.

She could get her own wooden sword and preferred to play in her chambers. And get into all kinds of trouble without needing him to get her out of it. She was capable of handling herself and he didn't have to worry about her as much as he did Arabella.

Maybe along the way he forgot that she needed him. He forgot he was her older brother and his job was to protect her. And he was sorry but what was this business about selling her. Elliott just had to know.

"What the bloody hell are you talking about?!"

"You knew I didn't want to be somebody's wife! You knew I wanted to be a knight like you and papa yet you had me chained up and caged like an animal. You had me delivered to the King of the west and you didn't even tell our father about it. You let him think I was kidnapped, Elle!"

Elliott blinked and then a small smile briefly appeared on his pretty face before it completely disappeared.

"So, you didn't go to Aradale of your own freewill to save Namura?"

Jamie watched the expression on her brother's face. His head was tilted to the right and his eyebrows drew together like they were seeking each other out for comfort.

Elliott had a million things running in his mind but he couldn't form the words.

"I..I..No, that can't be" he rubbed his temple like he had forgotten something important. Letting go of her hand, he walked away in swift steps leaving Jamie behind to stare after him.

"Elliott?"

He paid no attention to her and kept walking. Jamie was speechless. He didn't confirm nor deny her accusation. He simply looked like he had been slapped by his shadow.

Elliott entered the stable and took out his horse. He knew where to find the person that held all the answers for him. And he was going to get them by any means necessary.

Riding on the black horse, Elliott rode with full speed like he couldn't wait to get to his destination.

Soon, he was near the lake. He could make out his father's figure as he stared over the lake. Lately, the lake was the only place he takes a little pleasure from. Elliott stepped down from his horse and approached him.

His father somehow looked older than he actually was. Viking golden hair was changing to gray and he had more wrinkles than Elliott had the patience to count. He turned as soon as he held footsteps.

"Son, have you come to join your old man to stare at the lake too?" Jared coughed briefly after he spoke.

Elliott moved closer and stared at the lake with him. He let out a breathe. Who knew to ask a question would be this difficult?

"Let's talk about Jamie, father"

"No. I told you I don't want to talk about your sisters, Elliott" Jared didn't spare his son a look.

"But we do, though. What really happened father? Please, don't lie to me"

Jared turned and flashed an angry look at his son "I maybe your father, boy but I am your king! Watch your tone with me, Knight!"

Elliott moved closer to him like he was challenging him "But we are going to talk about my sister, King Jared. I am so sure we will that I can feel it in my bones. So, what really happened to Jamie few weeks ago" Elliott whispered.

Jared couldn't hold his son's gaze. He went back to staring at the water.

"I told you, your sister had to save Namura. She went to Aradale to be a Queen"

As Elliot swallowed hard, his Adam's apple throbbed too.

"No. You told me that Jamie decided she wants to be a Queen over the biggest hemisphere in Derkal, Father. You said she came to her senses but I didn't believe you, did I? But you convinced me by saying King Alexander promised her she could be a fighter, a warrior and like a fool I believe you. Actually, no...I believe you because you were my bloody father!"

Jared turned to watch his son. He had never seen him so angry and bitter.

"Why are you bringing this up, Elliott?" Jared asked his son.

"She came back home, father. Jamie came to Namura and she thinks I sent her to Aradale against her will!" Elliott grabbed his father by his shirt as he spoke through his clenched jaw.

Jared pried his hand off.

"What did you do, father? What did you bloody do to my sister?"

Jared turned to face him in anger. His son was tall but he was taller and bigger. Jared could squash Elliott if he chooses to.

"What should I have done? With Arabella gone, I have no pull whatsoever with King Alexander. He wanted to cut ties with Namura. Come on, Elliott...you are not really that naive! With King Alexander's army we wouldn't have conquered and taken all those lands that we took hold of. Namura would still be a small kingdom with little to offer" Jared yelled at his son.

Elliott saw through his facade. He saw the devil that was beneath.

"So, when I heard that Arabella ran away and what her husband wanted to do, I reached out to him and struck a deal. I would give him my other daughter to be his mistress and in exchange he would keep his promises to me. I didn't think he would go for it but he did" Jared saw the look that Elliott threw at him "Let's face it. Jamie is nothing like Arabella, she didn't have the face or the grace to be Queen but she would do well as a mistress. And Alexander promised he would take care of her. I made sure he swore it to me. She was my daughter and I guaranteed her welfare from the king before I sent her off"

Jared didn't see it until he felt the sting on his face. Elliott had punched him and drew blood in so doing.

"There was no letter, was there? You made it up. The threat was fake. The king of the West wasn't going to turn Namura into a pile of ashes, was he?" Elliott waited for him to answer but he didn't "Admit it!" He yelled at him.

"Yes, there was no letter. But I had to do it for Namura, Elliott...for you too"

Jared reached for him but Elliott took a step back. "You did it for yourself. If there is any shred of decency in you, you will admit it. You want more power and you saw a way to do it and you took it. Admit it!" Elliott yelled at him.

"Yes" Jared whispered.

Elliott nodded. He held back the feelings that flooded him and the tears that threatened to spill.

"You are still my king, your highness" he bowed to his father "But as a father, you are dead to me"

Elliott turned to walk away and he froze. Jamie stood not far from them with a blank face.

"Jamie?" Elliott was surprised to see her and so was Jared.

"Elliott, please ask papa if the lovely cage was his idea"

Jared felt his heart squeeze. How much of what he said did she hear?

"Come on, Jamie... let's go home. There is no point trying to understand how a father would do that to his child" Elliott try to take her hand and lead her away but Jamie took a step back. Blood emerged from the cut on her hand.

"If you won't ask him, I will" Jamie moved closer to her father.

"Was it your idea to bound my hands and legs...to be placed in a cage like an animal?"

Jared reached out and touched her. He wanted to explain but Jamie saw everything. This time around it was a flash. She felt like she was there. She saw her father's past.

Jamie moved away from him. She couldn't believe what she had seen. She turned and she fled. Elliott was right behind her.

Jamie climbed on the horse and she rode away.. She wished she didn't touch King Jared.
