Chapter hundred and seventeen: no place called home

Elliott walked behind his sister. What was he supposed to say to make her feel better? She worshipped the ground their father walked on. Elliott must have opened his mouth a million times but no words came out.

"Jamie" He called out her name softly.

Jamie kept walking but she slowed down considerably. "It's okay, Elle. It's okay"

"Well, it's not okay. There is no way in hell that is ever okay. I don't understand why he did what he did, aren't you wondering why?"

Elliott walked faster to catch up with her. Her white dress was now tainted with mud. That type of dress was not meant for the forest.

"I...I.." Jamie knew why but for some reason she couldn't say it out loud without curling up like a ball and sob like a like child. But if she kept a lid on everything she was feeling, she would be just fine. At least fine enough to make it to the castle without her brother picking her up.

"Sorry Elliott, sorry I don't it was you" Jamie said to him.

They were very close to the castle now, Elliott was walking at her pace. He reached out and held her hand. He squeezed it gently like it signified that he was there for her.

"I am sor-"

Jamie interrupted him. Somehow apology wasn't making her feel better. It was doing quite the opposite. It made feel like she had been ran over by a horse and no body thought to push her out of the way. She felt gaslighting and tired.

"Where is Ursla?" Jamie asked her brother instead.

"Who is Ursla?" Elliott asked with a blank face.

"My lady's maid, Elle. She is also a dear friend, you would know that if you made an effort to know me at all" Jamie took her hand away from his and walked faster as she entered the castle "Come find me when you have answer to my question, Elliott"

Elliott stood at the entrance of the castle. Was his sister right? Did he not make an effort to get to know her? If it was true then he was sorry.

Instead of walking to the castle he walked to his manservant's house. If anyone could fill him in on someone called Ursla, it would be Ben. Elliott knocked on Ben's door loudly.

Ben wondered who could be knocking like they owned his house. He got up from the chair he was sitting, leaving behind the late lunch he was having. He was ready to tell the knocker off. He only had thirty minutes to himself in the afternoon for lunch and he wasn't about to use it to teach someone a thing or two about manners.

Ben was midway through his cuss word when he open the door to find the crown prince there. He froze. What did he do? His mind ran back and forth looking for a mistake he might have done to warrant a visit from the prince. Ben didn't find any but it didn't stop him from apologizing.

"I am sorry, your royal highness"

Elliott looked at him. Can he read minds or was he just apologizing for something else? Either way, Elliott didn't have the patience to find out. He was more worried about disappointing his sister once again.

"I don't care what you did, Benjamin. Do you know a lady's maid by the name of Ursla?" Elliott never took his gaze off of the young lad. Which made Benjamin uncomfortable to say the least. He even stuttered a little as he answered.

"There is only one girl with that name in the king's village. She was princess Jamie's handmaid when she was in...in" Ben wondered if there was a nice way to say the word 'Exile' and so he went with the actual word after stuttering three seconds.

"Where can I find her?" Elliott asked the mumbling drum.

"In the dungeon" Ben's answer to the prince's question sounded more like a question than a reply.

"You don't sound sure, Benjamin. Is she there or not?" Elliott was starting to lose his patience.

"She is in the dungeon, definitely" Ben answered the prince.

"Does she work in the dungeon?" Ben wondered if he spoke his mind by telling the crown prince that no one in their right mind works in the dungeon and that the only way one get to be in the dungeon was a prisoner.

But Ben went with the polite answer "No. She does not work there"

Elliott was getting tired of waiting for his servant to use part of his brain and tell him what he needed to hear.

"What is she doing there then?" Elliott asked after five seconds of staring at Ben.

Ben scratched the back of his head and answered. "She is a prisoner?"

Again, Ben answered Elliott's question with an answer that sounded more like a question.

"Benjamin, if you answer any of my questions again with a question of your own I will throw you into the dungeon"

The threat placed Benjamin on high alert.

"The she is definitely a prisoner in the dungeon, Milord"

"Why?" Elliott asked the lady.

Benjamin Wonder how he was supposed to answer that question. Even the prince should know that only a member of the royal family can throw a person into the dungeon. And when it happened both the first and second princess were gone and if Elliott was asking him the question, then that rules him out too. The only sensible conclusion was that it was the king who threw the poor girl in the dungeon but he was about to say that out loud to the king's son.

"She was on the naughty list" Even Ben knew his answer didn't make any sense.

Elliott stared at the boy like he would like to pick him up and knock him around for picking the most unfortunate time to be a clown.

"You are a clown, Benjamin"

Elliott turned and walked away. Something in him told him that he wasn't going to get a good answer from Ben. His next stop was the dungeon.

Elliott could remember the last time he step foot inside the dungeon. It was never. As a child, the place gave him the creeps and as an adult, he just didn't like it and it still gave him the creeps.

Walking down the stairs that led to the dungeon, Elliott made his way down to the office of the guard in charge of prisoners. The man was taking a nap. Elliott threw the cup on the table at the wall after emptying the content on the guard.

"Prince Elliott! I wasn't sleeping. I was just...just"

Elliott wondered whether he should wait for the man to come up with an unlikely lie or just ask him the question about Ursla's cell.

"I want to speak to a prisoner. Her name is Ursla" Elliott decided to go with the latter.

Elliott waited for the guard to check his scroll but he didn't, he simply stood up and took the keys.

"Aren't you going to check your records?" Elliott asked. He didn't have a minute to spare to lecture the guard on the proper way to do a job.

"There is only one lady prisoner. The barbarian that ate Wendell's ear last week" The guard walked in front of the prince to a cell door.

"Here she is, prince Elliott"

"Leave us" Elliott commanded the guard.

"She is dangerous,.I should stay"

Elliott looked at the guard who looked like he could be knocked out by the wind and he imagined said guard protecting him. It was amusing but Elliott wasn't in the mood to be amused.

"Thanks but I can manage"

The guard was glad to go and put distance between the ear eating girl and himself.

Elliott opened the door.

Ursla remembered the king's son. If he was there to torture her, she won't go easy on him. She went after him with force but Elliott was quick on his feet and stepped out of the way and she ran straight into the wall.

"Calm down. Jamie is in Namura and she is asking of you"

Hearing Jamie's name made Ursla calmer. She rubbed the part of her head she banged on the wall.

"Are you lying to me, Prince Elliott?" Ursla asked the king's son.

"No. She escaped from the Western hemisphere and now, she is in Namura"

Elliott watched as a smile appeared on her face. It was the kind of smile that said she was expecting Jamie to escape her captors.

"Good. What do you want from me?' Ursla asked Elliott.

Elliott watched the girl. She was dirty and her hair was a mess. She looked malnourished.

"What are you doing in the dungeon, Ursla?" Elliott asked the girl.

Ursla started laughing like the prince was making a terrible joke. She laughed for a while.

"How about you ask your father, your royal highness? And you should ask yourself why you are weeks late to grace me with your presence after l left a message for you that the princess had been kidnapped?"
