Chapter hundred and eighteen: Time to go nowhere

Elliott leaned against the wall. If what Ursla was saying was true then he had a chance to save his sister but he didn't. If there was any truth to what she was saying the he wasn't better than his father.

"You left a message for me? Did I get the message?"

Ursla rubbed her wrist where the chains were placed. She knew it would leave a nasty mark on her wrist. It was already doing that.

"I don't know, Prince Elliott. But after days of waiting, I knew you weren't coming and I had to do something"

It was time like this that Elliott wishes he could turn back the time. If he had the power to, he would and he would make sure that good defeated the bad. He would have searched from heaven to the depths of hell for his sister, bring her home or die trying.

"How did you end up here, Ursla?" He asked.

"After some days and you didn't show up, I summoned up the courage and I approached the King. I told him that the second Princess was missing and he told me that she wasn't, Jamie went of her own free will to be Queen but I disagreed. I described how I found her chambers in disarray like someone went through her wardrobe in a hurry and he said he would find out the truth. He told me he would send someone to Aradale to make sure she was alright. Looking back now, I think my greatest mistake was that I believed him"

Ursla looked at the prince and how he was paying rapt attention to her and she continued.

"Three hours later, the guards were entered my dwelling and found the king's golden cup under my pillow. It was a poor frame job if you ask me plus I am Naziri tribe. We like silver more than gold. Anyway, next I know, I am in the dungeon. End of story"

Elliott wanted to say something but like with his sister, he was speechless. He turned and he walked out of the cell leaving the door open.

How could he be blind to all his father's brutality and way of getting what he wanted? His father gave a whole new meaning to the adage, a wolf in sheep clothing.

He walked to Jamie's chamber and he knocked. Jamie was staring out the window when he entered. He joined her and saw the subject of her fascination.

"She hasn't been herself since she came back. Never even said a word" Elliott told her. "She is not the Bella we know anymore"

Jamie watched her older sister from the window silently. She looked different perhaps older but that wasn't possible. The last time she saw Arabella last was six weeks ago in the same castle.

But somehow the girl that was brushing the horse gently was totally different. Jamie wondered why. Did Alexander break her little meek spirit? But how can someone like Alexander who protected her break sweet Arabella? Jamie was conflicted. On one hand she wanted to go to her sister and say hello. And on the other hand she wanted to pick a fight for allowing her to be dragged into her situation but nevertheless, one thing Jamie knew for sure was that Arabella wasn't the same girl they once knew but so was she.

"When...when did she come home?" Jamie asked Elliott instead.

"About a two weeks after you left, she showed up in Namura. I don't know what happened. She spoke the day she came back but after she left the king's chamber, Bella stopped speaking. She refused to see the duke too"

Elliott couldn't help but feel helpless for his inability to help his sisters.

"Well, she will talk to me" Jamie walked out without asking Elliott what about Ursla. She needed to have a word with Arabella. Elliott watched from the window as she got to where Arabella was brushing the horse.

"Bella! I know you know I came back. Do you not have words for the sister you sent to rot in Aradale?" Jamie's voice was moderate but her words were laced with acid.

Arabella looked up and watched her little sister for a moment. She touched Jamie's short hair like she was fascinated and she went back to brushing the horse. Jamie watched her closely now, her sister looked like she was... grieving. Jamie didn't understand this but she could find out. She made the injury on her hand bleed and she touched Arabella and she saw it.

Jamie was horrified. Seems her superpower was her ability to see someone's past at their lowest point.

"I am sorry, Bella. I didn't know. I would have believed you, trust me" She touched Arabella's cheek.

The first turned around with vacant eyes "You would?"

"Yes. So talk to me. Tell me what happened"

Arabella stopped brushing the horse but she kept running over her fingers on the brush.

"I didn't run. I was kidnapped by Lady Marvin, the king's cousin. I thought King Alexander would look for me but he didn't. I was released after he married you and I found my way home. I told our father hoping he would do something about it but he called me a liar. He said no one would ever believe that. No one would believe me"

Jamie wrapped her hand on her sisters and squeezed gently to reassure her.

"I swear on my life, Bella. I will get justice for you and I believe you. So would Elliott and the Duke. And if yours still love the duke, then go to him" Jamie advised her sister.

"The duke wouldn't want a second hand wife, Jamie" Arabella told her.

"Well, you are brand new. Alexander said he didn't consummate the marriage, did he lie?"

"No, he didn't" Arabella answered.

"Then tell Duke of kyre that. He would be a fool not to ask for your hand. You are after all the most beautiful woman in Derkal, Arabella"

Jamie hugged her sister tightly. She knew it then that it was goodbye.

"Take good care of yourself, Arabella" Jamie felt the wet cheeks and she knew she was crying.

"You are leaving Namura, aren't you?" Arabella asked her.

Jamie nodded. She didn't know where she was going to go but Namura wasn't her home anymore and she couldn't go back to the Western hemisphere. Alexander made it clear.

"Where are you going to go?" Arabella asked.

"I don't know but I heard the southern hemisphere is beautiful"

Jamie couldn't exactly tell her sister she was going to go to the south and help free war slaves like Semeen and Alexander.

"Be safe, little sister"

Jamie started to walk away when she turned and looked at Arabella for the last time "Don't stop smiling Bella. It's your best quality"

Jamie walked back to her chamber. Elliott was still there.

"What did Bella say?" Elliott asked her.

"Nothing we don't already know. King Jared is a monster. Did you find Ursla?"

Elliott hesitated before he answered.

"Yes, she is in the dungeon. Father had her imprisoned after you left. She was asking a lot of questions about your disappearance"

Jamie didn't look surprised. Nothing surprised her anymore. But she was angry that Ursla suffered for her sake.

"Can you release her?" She asked him.

"You know I can't. She is not my prisoner. She is father's to release. I can ask him"

"I don't care how you do it, Elle. Please set her free" Jamie opened the wardrobe and started bringing out some of her dress and comfortable male clothing.

"What are you doing, Jamie?" Elliott was confused as he watched his sister.

"I am leaving. I can't stay in Namura. Don't try and stop me"

"I won't because we are coming with you... Bella and I"

Jamie stopped packing and looked at her brother. She was touched but she couldn't let him lose his inheritance because of her.

"No. You are the crown prince, Elle. One day, when you become king, I would like to come back home but for that to happen, you have to stay in Namura and be the greatest king in the history of kings. I am leaving but you are not. And Bella is going to marry the duke of kyre and you will give them your blessings. All I ask is that you set Ursla free, brother"

Elliott nodded and hugged her. Jamie went back to packing her bags as he left.

****

Jamie stood outside the castle's gate and watched the place that was home to her all her life. She was sad to leave it behind but she had no choice. But one thing she knew for sure, the next times that she steps foot in Namura again she won't be a victim.

"You weren't going to leave without me, were you?" A voice startled Jamie and she turned around to find Ursla standing behind her.

"Ursla!"

"Your brother says you are welcome" Ursla looked tired like just standing upright was difficult. Jamie moved closer and wrapped her hand around her.. Slave or not, she was her best friend.
