Chapter hundred and twenty three: Ursla to the rescue

"Who are you?" Sir derrick asked the young girl standing in front of her with tired eyes and a stick.

She looked like she has been through hell and back. Her dress was thorn and she looked severely malnourished like she had been starved on purpose. Her hair was held up with a hair band and she tied a matching scarf on her forehead.

"The kitchen is that way" Derrick pointed to his right "If you ask of Meg and tell her that I sent you, she might spare some bread for you"

Derrick assumed she was looking for food.

The mere mention of food made Ursla salivate but she had a mission to carry out and she won't be hindered.

"You are kind, brave knight and I don't want to maim you because only a handful of people are fortunate enough to have kindness. I just want the princess and I will be on my way" Ursla spoke softly like talking was exhausting. She could barely keep her eyes open and her free palm kept touching her eye.

Derrick watched the young girl. He would hate to seriously impair her but she might not give him a choice since the only she could get to the princess was through him.

"Walk away while you can. You can barely stand upright"

"I know...I apologize in advance"

Ursla curled her hand into a fist and aimed for the front of Derrick's nose. He hadn't expected it. Ursla's fist hit the bridge of his nose and his blood splattered all over.

Derrick looked like he was woken from a slumber. He wiped the blood off and waited. When next she attacked, he was ready to defend himself. He won't make the mistake ever again. He won't dismiss or underrate his opponent...girl or not.

Ursla tried to hit him again but he deflected easily. He grabbed her and lifted her up like a bag of feathers until she was dangling on the tip of his toes. She knew she had to be smarter and faster since the knight was obviously sturdier and bigger. Ursla slammed her elbow on the back of his neck and he loosened his grip enough for her to escape his hold.

Derrick winced in pain. Maybe he shouldn't go easy on the girl; she was already wining the fight.

The next she came at him, he was ready. It went on for some minutes, Ursla was fast as a lightening while Derrick had more fighting experience and neither was willing to say surrender. But soon, Derrick made the mistake of lifting her up again and Ursla took the opportunity to wrap her legs around his neck and choked him out. She could hear footsteps coming towards them...more Knights. She was too tired for another fight.

Then she felt the bang on the back of her head and it was light out for her. Everything became pitch black.

When Ursla came to, she wasn't in the hallway. She was on a bed...in a strange room. She tried to get up but she felt a banging pain in her head and she was still.

"Where did you learn to fight like that?" Derrick offered her water and she took it.

"My father taught me" Ursla murmured as she took another sip "Where is the princess?"

Derrick noted that there was no malice in her even though she clearly knew she had been captured.

He took the cup away from her. "Queen Janessa is safe. She is with the king" Derrick replied.

Ursla knew that if Jamie was with the king then she was far from safe. He was going to kill the princess.

"How long was I out?" Ursla asked him.

"Almost a day....you needed the rest. I am surprised you didn't collapse from exhaustion...even more surprised than you could fight in that State" Derrick gave her a portion for her head and she took it.

Good! She was feeling much better. At least she could fight her way out but then Derrick spoke.

"The King knows you are here. He ordered for you to be brought to his presence immediately you regained consciousness. Are you strong enough to walk or do you want me to carry you over there?" Derrick asked her. He even went ahead to attempt to pick her up but Ursla was clear in her threat.

"You will lose feeling in your right arm if you touch me" Ursla told him.

Derrick took a step back. He opened the wardrobe and took out a dress and placed it on the bed.

"My sister was kind enough to lend you her dress. I think you should look presentable before the king. I will be outside while you change. Do not attempt an escape, the room is surrounded"

Derrick was almost to the door when she spoke.

"I don't plan on going anywhere without the princess"

Derrick opened the door and left, shutting the door behind him.

A while later, Ursla walked with Derrick along the king's corridor. The blue dress she wore fitted her perfectly almost making her look like a noble lady. It was the most expensive thing she had ever put on.

"Where are you taking me?" She asked him.

"To the King's chambers.... don't worry; it is not what you think. The king has not left the Queen's side since he came back from the south"

Derrick knew that Ursla might be apprehensive about meeting the king in his private room. She might think he plans on doing something wicked to her there but then he saw the girl smile.

"You are adorable. I am not worried" Ursla told him.

Derrick was sure it was the first time he had been accused of being adorable. He knew it was an insult but he decided to take it as a compliment.

"Thank you but..." He stopped her "Tell the king that you are sorry and you were too exhausted to know what you were doing. King Alexander is fair, he will punish you accordingly"

"Why do you care if he kills me?" Ursla wanted to know. Was the Knight falling in love with her just like the thousand men who thought they were adorable enough to tame her?

"I don't. I just hate a good fighter going to waste in a place that isn't a battle ground. You are a good fighter, woman but you can be great" Derrick told her.

"I remember defeating you, Mr. Adorable. I can fight just fine" Ursla told him smugly.

"You do well with your fist and you are quick on your feet. And you have this weird ability to exhaust your opponent easily but you also won't last ten seconds with a sword and you left yourself open during a fight and you ended up unconscious. You are good but not great" Derrick explained to her.

Ursla wondered whether she should take an offense but Derrick resumed walking and so did she.

Soon, they were in front of the door she had choked him before.

Derrick knocked and waited to be asked inside.

He opened the door and before he pushed her inside, he whispered to her. "Plead for mercy!"

The chamber was dark but Ursla waited patiently for her eyes to adjust accordingly.

Alexander saw that the girl was trying to adjust to the room's illumination and he stood up and drew the curtains open.

It was then that Ursla saw Jamie lying on the bed. Her eyes were closed and she looked almost dead.

She moved closer to her even went as far as climbing into the king's bed to hold Jamie's head. Then she saw the chains on the table near the bed and a plate of leftover food.

Alexander stared at the intruder on his bed with the same causal curiosity a cat used on a to be food.

"You don't know me but I am..." Alexander started but he was interrupted by Ursla.

"You are the devil of Aradale, your highness. And I don't want trouble. I just want the princess and we will be on our way" Ursla told him softly.

"Well, the princess is not going anywhere" Alexander murmured to her.

"You are going to charge her with treason? And have her killed. You have to go through me, first" Ursla picked up the spoon inside the plate and pointed it at the king.

"What is it with girls from Namura and their idiotic attachment to weapons?" Alexander asked her.

"It's unfair to generalize and I am not from Namura. I am of Naziri tribe and you will let us go" Ursla told him as she tried to wake the princess up.

"You shouldn't threaten the king. It would earn you a place on the chopping block. You have about three seconds to put away that ridiculous weapon before I nailed that hand to the wall" Alexander's threat wasn't subtle and he meant it. He was still blood thirsty, spending the whole of yesterday slaughtering and taking the heads of bandits to use as decorations for his wall, would do that to anyone.

Ursla's hand tightened around her weapon of choice.
