Chapter hundred and twenty five: heart of the matter.

"No" Eileen answered. It was a lie. She was tired and needed a few minutes break from the heart wrenching silence in the carriage.

"Then No, We will journey to our destination. We should get over the consummation as soon as possible, Eileen"

Still with the eyes closed, That was the last stroke for Eileen and the fact that he had decided what to do like it was a final decision.

Eileen leaned over and opened the little window to talk to the coach.

"Stop the carriage, Manser!" She demanded in a high pitched voice.

"What are you doing?" He asked as his eyes opened to stare threateningly at her.

Good news! He wasn't blind. Bad news! He looks like he wanted to kill her.

"I changed my mind. I need a break... from you and your nasty attitude. You are behaving like a child, Luther!" Even the mere mention of his name sends chills down her spine.

His blue eyes almost looked like flames as they stared at her.

He didn't have to lean over to open the little window.

"Do not stop by the inn, Manser. Stopping would cost us an hour. An hour I have to spend away from the King. We are going to Koi and that's final" Luther ordered the coach.

He leaned over to her and Eileen instinctively shrunk herself.

"You can take all the rest you want away from me as soon as we get the business of making this marriage legal over with, so I can return to my rightful place at the king's side. Until then, try not to upset me or count so loudly or chatter incessantly like you have been doing for the past three hours. Can you do that...wife?" His eyes were shooting darts and she ran out of space to lean into.

With nothing else in mind to make him back off and take his suffocating presence with him, Eileen leaned close and placed a kiss on his lips. It was fast and it accomplished what she set out to do.

Luther backed off almost immediately. He hadn't expected the boldness from the little woman.

Eileen wiped her mouth like she was taking away any part of him that she still had on her. None whatsoever from Luther Judd, She looked more relaxed as the carriage jolted and then stopped.

Eileen leaned towards him to whisper something to him. Something she knew would sting.

"You should learn to be a little more appreciative, horse ass! I saved you from execution and I might be your wife, Sir Luther Judd due to the unfortunate turn of event last week but I am Queen. My word is law. And my body needs a break from your suffocating silence. So, when I say we are taking a break...we taking a break!"

Eileen felt invigorated. Letting lose was invigorating. She tried to open the carriage door but he grabbed her hands.

"You think you saved my life, your majesty?" His voice was pure whisper. It made Eileen's body tense up with a feeling she couldn't describe "You didn't. You wrecked my life, Queen Eileen. Death would have been honorable"

Eileen didn't display what she was feeling. She simply directed her gaze to the place he held her hand. Deep down she knew, Judd would never hurt her, at least physically but she hated that he was frightening her.

"I apologize, your majesty" Luther took his hands away.

Eileen looked away and opened the carriage door and stepped down. She looked around the strange environment. Something was wrong. The inn looked deserted. She turned to look at her coach but Manser had an arrow impaled in his abdomen. Her knights that was supposed to be protecting her was gone too leaving behind the horses. It was an ambush. Someone was going to kill her.

Eileen took a step back and back until her body hit the carriage door. Then she was surrounded almost immediately. The soldiers all held shield she was well acquainted with. The shields of the house of Aradale....damn you Luther! Eileen murmured as it dawned on her that her new husband was going to kill her.

She tried to move away from the carriage, immediately she understood what was about to happen but it was too late. One of the soldiers grabbed her and she screamed.

Judd came down from the carriage with an expressionless face. He watched the men that held his wife as she screamed on top of her voice. He wished she would shut up.

"What battalion are you from soldiers?" He questioned.

"The 53th battalion of King Alexander's army" one of the men answered.

"So was it the king that gave the order or commandant of the 53th, my very good friend Sir Judd" Luther questioned.

The soldiers looked at each other. Luther counted about eleven of them. He waited patiently for their answer.

"Commandant Judd gave the orders" one of the men answered.

Luther Judd tilted his head to the right "That's funny! I am Luther Judd and I am not a bloody commandant. And i bloody well didn't ask for the murder of my wife. Give her back to me and you may leave with your lives"

Judd waited for them to comply. But it didn't stop him from noticing the relief on Eileen's face and the realization, his wife actually thinks he wanted her dead.

"You should listen to my husband! He is King Alexander's right hand man. He is the lead knight. The king's shadow, just let me go" Eileen advices them.

One of the men holding her took a dagger towards her throat when suddenly; he was impaled by Judd's dagger. Eileen screamed as she realized how close she had come to death. She had no idea she was still screaming until she held Judd's voice.

"Darling, I suggest a little less screaming and more of running towards me!"

Eileen took off towards her husband. She was by his side in a second. She was there just in time for him to deflate the arrow headed for her chest.

Luther picked her up and shoved her into the carriage and locked her inside.

Eileen couldn't stop her hands from shaking. She knew the knight was outnumbered and he would probably pay with his life and then hers.

She sank to the floor of the carriage and covered her head with her hands. Then the door started to shake. Someone was trying to get inside. Eileen knew she was going to die. She tried to take off her bracelet but it won't bulge. She tried again and again but the sorceress that bonded it to her wrist taught her a spell to take it off but her mind was blank at the moment. She just kept pulling the bracelet until the door finally opened. For a moment, Eileen accepted death.

"Come on! We can't stay here. Whoever wants you dead, will send more"

It was Luther Judd's voice. Eileen sat upright. Her hands were still shaking. She took his hand and he pulled her out of the carriage.

Her eyes darted around to the fallen bodies of the men that attacked them. He had killed them all.

"We have to go" Judd grabbed her hand. Eileen's wanted to follow him but her eyes darted to the dead coach, Manser.

"He is gone. There is nothing we can do for him" Luther reminded her.

She moved closer and she took his marriage chain. His wife would appreciate it. "I am sorry, Manser"

Eileen turned and followed Luther as he grabbed two horses and lifted her into one. They turned and rode into the forest by their right. They rode for a while until the space between the massacre and them was wide enough.

Eileen had no idea she was crying until she saw Judd pick her up from a moving horse and sat in front of him. Then he stopped the horse. He stared at her. He had transferred her to his horse when he noticed that she wasn't controlling her horse and was at the threat of being thrown down.

He felt her body shake with shock and sobs as he instinctively pulled her into his arms. He felt her wet cheek on his chest. After a while, she pulled away to talk.

"Why would king Alexander want me dead after forcing us to get married?"

Even as Eileen sobbed and talked, Judd didn't have an answer for her.

He has been the king's shadow for years. His father was King Alexander's lead Knight too and they both perished in the ambush. Sir Luther Judd and King Alexander both took up leadership on the same day. Even Alexander knew that Judd would die for him in a heartbeat. It was a certainty everyone knew.

But, now he was comforting a bride imposed on him because she was almost killed by men bearing the symbol of the house of Aradale, a house led by the king Alexander himself and nothing makes sense anymore.

But Luther Judd was certain of one thing and In a calm voice, he passed his truth to the Queen of Koi.

"King Alexander doesn't want you dead"

Eileen lifted her eyes and looked at him.

"How can you be so sure Luther?"

"Because he knows that you are my wife...Queen or not, you are under my protection and the only way you will end up dead was if I am dead too"

Eileen stopped sobbing and gazed at him. She believed him.

Why would King Alexander want me dead after forcing us to get married?"
