Chapter hundred and twenty eight: Taking Care

Ursla walked for a short period of time with Derrick until they came out into an open space.

There, she met about five more men she assumed were knights even though they were dressed in casual clothing.

Derrick introduced her.

"This is Lady Ursla. She will be joining us. Ursla this is Sir Joan, Sir Tracie, Sir Hunter, Sir Spencer and the lead knight Sir Walters"

Ursla nodded her head slightly in greeting but she could see the look the men gave to each other and the one they gave to Sir Derrick.

Walters called Derrick aside after he squeezed a smile at Ursla, a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.

"What is she doing here?" Walters asked Derrick.

"She is a fighter just you. She will be a waste serving broth and producing babies. Seriously, look at her. Does she look like she has the patience to hold a baby?" Derrick pointed at Ursla.

Ursla knew they were talking about her and she did her best to ignore them but when Derrick pointed at her and Walters smiled like he had been told a joke, Ursla walked over to the place they were standing.

"If you have anything to say to me, say it to my face Sir Walters" Ursla told them.

Maybe she shouldn't have come off as defensive but somehow, it worked.

"This spot is where we come on our free time to train and amuse ourselves and I don't want to worry about what I say or if the knights will push too hard and injure you. This is supposed to be a stress free zone" Walters told her.

"You don't have to worry about me...ask Mr. Adorable, I can take care of myself. You should be more worried about your knights getting maimed by a girl. Can their fragile ego handle it?" Ursla asked Walters.

Walters was impressed. There was no rule preventing him from allowing Ursla to join them. It was their free time and whatever they did in their free time was their business.

"So, are you saying you can fend off a knight?" Walters asked her.

"How about we make a wager? I fight one of your men and hold my own for ten minutes, you allow me join your little circle" Ursla smiled at him as she waited for a response.

Walters looked at Derrick and he nodded. Even though Walters was reluctant, he pointed at one of his men and said "Sir Hunter, you are up. You will fight Lady Ursla"

Hunter laughed like Walters just made a joke but then he saw the serious look on Walters face and stood up.

Hunter was the youngest knight and he was the only one closest to Ursla's age.

"Y-you want me to hit a lady?" Hunter sounded surprise; it was breaking one of the rules of knighthood.

"Technically, I am a chief's daughter not a Lady. And where I come from, we don't conform to the ridiculous notion that a woman needs to be sheltered. I am a warrior just like my brother " Ursla said and shrugged, like it was excuse enough for him to break a code.

"Fight her, Hunter and try not to embarrass me too much" Sir Derrick warned him.

Hunter stood up. He was in a dilemma. He didn't want to be the knight that was defeated by a girl and he didn't want to be the Knight that defeated a girl.

No one thought he would ever make the knighthood like his older brother. Everybody expected him to fail and somehow, he made it. And now, he will be disgraced forever. Reluctantly, he drew his sword but then he heard Ursla's voice.

"Wait, how about I fight you, Sir Walters?"

Walters chuckled like it was the funniest thing he had ever heard.

"She is serious" Derrick told him "Don't make the same mistake I made. Don't underestimate her"

"Okay, Lady Ursla. Let's fight"

Derrick sat down and watched them as they fought, he knew that Ursla was a good fighter but she wasn't a match for Walters. He wasn't a match for Walters too.

She was quick on her feet but Derrick had better training and unlike him, he wasn't holding back because she was a lady.

Derrick knew Walters had the upper hand until he let Ursla come too close to him.

"Big mistake!" Derrick whispered as he watched as Ursla wrapped her legs around his neck and flipped Walters.

A lesser man would have been choked out but Somehow Walters broke free just as the counting showed it was ten minutes.

"Times up!" Derrick yelled.

Ursla wiped the blood at the corner of her mouth and Walters rubbed his neck.

"Who won?" Everyone asked.

It would have been Ursla except Walters broke free before the countdown expired. So, technically Walters came out on top.

"It was..." Derrick wanted to announce sadly when Walters spoke.

"It was a tie. Welcome to our little circle, Lady Ursla. But think very well before you accept. You shall not be treated any differently than the men here"

Ursla's face beamed up like a little girl.

"Thank you, Sir Walters. I am most honored"

The next two hours they spent there went seamlessly. They argued about politics, talked about embarrassing moment of sir hunter and they trained too.

Later as Derrick and Ursla walked back to the castle, Ursla hugged him.

"Thank you, this is better than a stupid picnic"

Derrick chuckled and then he proceeded to whisper in her ear "Be careful lady Ursla or you might just fall in love with me"

Ursla crooked her eyebrows at him "I don't fall in love. I am a warrior. It's what I will always be. Babies and husbands are not in the cards for me, Sir Derrick"

Derrick nodded "Then we will get along fine, Ursla. Because I don't do love too"

Ursla handed over the sword she was holding and walked away. She needed to tell the Queen about how amazing her day was but not before she turned back to look at Derrick.

"Later, Mr. Adorable"

When Ursla got to the Queen's Chamber, the room contained more people than she was expecting, the king with a worried countenance and the physician tending to the Jamie in the bed.

"What is wrong with her?" Ursla asked the King. She didn't even remember to curtsied and thankful, the king was too worried too to notice.

"Physically, just the bruises but the physician seem to think there is something wrong with her state of mind" Alexander answered.

"Finding out the father you adored, the father that made you run from your chance at something beautiful with someone equally beautiful is a cold blooded beast, would mess anyone up. But she is not anyone, she is Jamie and she will snap out of it soon" Ursla told him.

Alexander turned and watched her curiously what did she mean? Was Jamie like that because she ruined the chance at having something beautiful with someone beautiful? Was that someone him? He wanted to ask Ursla but the physician spoke.

"I shall take my leave now, King Alexander. I will be back to check on the queen in the evening" The physician bowed to him.

"Thank you Jon"

Alexander went to his Queen. Her eyes were open but she stared into empty space without blinking.

"What did you mean by what you said earlier?" Alexander asked Ursla.

"I am saying to give her time. I am saying to give her a reason to want to live again because whatever you felt for her...I think she feels it too. It was why she was upset when I told the bandit that she was your wife, I think she was worried that you won't come for her. She was more worried about that than the thought of imminent death. Her world shattered and she has no place in it anymore" Ursla wondered why she was talking so much.

Alexander watched the woman on his bed...his woman. The thought that he was capable of hating her was laughable. Everything he said to her the day she threatened her sister was said out of anger.

He pushed strands of hair away from her face.

"Your place is by my side, Monisha. And I don't know how I am going to fix us....fix you but I will find a way" Alexander whispered to her ears.

"Are you still going to execute her for treason?" Ursla asked.

"The official story Rosemund came up with was that Janessa was kidnapped by the bandits for ransom. You can't punish a queen for being kidnapped" Alexander answered her.

"So, you are not..." Ursla was surprised.

"Just take the win, Ursla...take the win"

"I see what she sees in you, your highness. I am rooting for you...what do I know? You might just be able to tame her" Ursla turned and walked out.

Alexander looked at Janessa one more time. She was the most beautiful woman he knew.

"Wrong.. I don't want to tame you. You are perfect just the way you are, Janessa of Aradale"
