Chapter hundred and thirty four: Save me!

"So, that is a yes...right?" Rosemund asked him.

"Right?" Jamie backed her up.

"Yes" Alexander whispered

Both of them hugged him simultaneously.

"Both of you are making me soft. I am supposed to rule with an iron fist!" Alexander complained but it only earned him a kiss on both cheeks.

"I need to get ready" Jamie said out loud.

"I will help you" Rosemund told her and they both walked.

Alexander shook his head.

On the upside, his sister and wife were getting along and somehow, he knew it would make his life uncomfortable.

Soon, they were on their way to the eastern hemisphere and even though Jamie told Alexander that she was fine to ride a horse, he insisted on a carriage ride.

And much to the irritation of the king, Semeen, Blake and Ursla tagged along too. Whenever Alexander remembers the conversation he had with Ursla, he clenches his fist. The girl was annoying and she knew it. The conversation that played out in front of the castle was as follow.

Ursla stood beside the carriage, it seemed like she was waiting patiently for the royal family to approach her.

As soon as Alexander saw her, he told Jamie to send her back. He didn't trust her and he won't ride with someone he couldn't turn his back to. Jamie replied by smiling brightly and hastening her footsteps to hug Ursla. Few seconds later, she came to meet her husband.

"I tried to ask her to stay back but she said no. She is coming with us."

"No, she is not" Alexander walked ahead to talk to Ursla.

"My king" instead for Ursla to curtsy, she bowed to the king.

"Go back to your chamber, Ursla" Alexander ordered her.

"I don't have a chamber" she told him.

"I am curious but a gentleman doesn't ask a woman where she sleeps..." Alexander was interrupted by Ursla.

"I sleep on the Queen's doorstep. Sometimes, Derrick offers me a bed in his parent's house but I don't like to be a burden and so most times, I say no" Ursla explained to him.

"Ask Meg for a room in the castle, Ursla. Now, you may leave" Alexander took a step back to give way for Ursla to pass but she didn't move an inch.

"Did she tell you that her father murdered my entire family?" Ursla asked him.

"No, she didn't"

"Well, King Jared did. I was taken as a slave and I was given to her. She challenged me to a fight and I beat her up. Most princesses would have demanded for my head but instead she set me free. I was leaving her kingdom when I realized that I cared for no one and I had no place to go. And so I went back in time to stop a wolf from ripping her to shreds" Ursla smiled softly. It was the first time she had smiled in front of Alexander.

"The beast wanted to kill her but she stopped me from plunging a knife into the wolf's heart. Jamie is that kind of person. And for a long time, it was just the both of us. She is my family and I need to protect her" Ursla told the King.

"She is my wife. It's my duty to protect her. Go back to the castle. She is safe with me" Alexander turned to walk away when a single word stopped him.

"No"

"What did you just say to me?" Alexander thundered.

"No" Ursla murmured.

Alexander grabbed her hand in anger and a blade from his tunic and then he heard his wife gasps as the blade went through the carriage door.

Jamie ran forward. Did Alexander just nail Ursla's hand to the wall?

"You didn't flinch or try to stop me" Alexander asked her.

"You are King. Her devotion is to you and so, is mine. But I won't go back. I am wherever she is" Ursla turned and watched the blade. It was only a few inches away from her hand.

The king would have maimed her but he didn't.

Pulling the blade out of the carriage, Alexander saw Jamie's worried face.

"Has anyone told you that you are annoying?" The king asked Ursla as he walked away.

****

With just both the king and queen inside the carriage it was mostly comfortable silence.

They sat opposite each other in silence, none in a hurry to talk or touch each other. Alexander had since avoided touching her unless it was absolutely necessary. He wanted her to have some time and figure out what to do.

He wanted her to want all of him too.

Jamie cleared her throat softly.

"Do you want water?" Alexander asked her and tried to reach for a water container.

"No" Jamie could feel her heart pound in her chest. She needed to say what was on her mind before she loses the nerve to say it.

"Alexander?"

"Yes" Alexander watched her. He could hear her pounding heart.

He knew at once. This was the moment she tells him that she can't be with him, the moment that will permanently be burnt in his head, the moment she stops being his.

Alexander was ready to negotiate or beg but he won't. He won't force her to do anything she didn't want to do.

"Janessa, it's..."

"I want you to make our marriage legal"

Both of them started talking the same time.

Alexander blinked maybe he didn't hear her well.

"What?" He asked just so he could verify.

"I want us to.... to...be together as husband and wife when we return" Jamie was becoming increasingly nervous.

Anyone in her position would be. Asking a husband for his commitment and his body was an awful difficult thing to do even for someone like Jamie.

Alexander blinked again. What was going on?

"Why" Alexander asked her.

He wanted to know why Jamie would want to suddenly consummate their marriage after so long. His desire to know somehow was so great that he was sitting at the edge of his seat.

"Why?" Jamie sounded confused "You don't want me anymore?"

"That is ridiculous...of course, I want you. You know I do and I have for a very long time. But you just received the worst news of your life and your answer to it was sex. I just have to understand. What is going on?" Alexander asked her.

"Have sex with me or don't, Alexander. I don't want to talk about this anymore" Jamie said and looked out the window.

Alexander didn't push it. He simply let her be. The carriage jolted before it stopped.

"I will be right back" Alexander opened the door and exit the carriage.

"Why did we stop?" Alexander asked as he walked to the front of the carriage.

Sir Walters was the one that gave him answer. "I don't know. Who is this man, anyway?" Sir Walters pointed to Blake.

Alexander watched Blake. He was squatting down by a tree and he had his back to everyone else. Blake obviously heard Walters but Alexander suspected he intentionally ignored the knight.

The Alpha moved closer to his commander. If Blake stopped he must have a reason.

"What is wrong, Commander Blake?" The Alpha asked him.

Blake stood up and pointed to the tree.

"Your knight was here and he is mortally injured"

"How can you know that?" Alexander asked him.

"I gave a piece of his clothing to my scouts for his scent. I may have taken a whiff of it too. I can smell him all over this tree. He was ambushed and if his blood is smeared all over that tree then.... mortally injured would be my guess"

Alexander believed him. He looked around and found one of his Knights coming.

"The bridge is destroyed. Horses and carriages won't pass though. All I saw was a fallen tree that we can walk on. But it is dangerous"

Can it get worst ? was the first thing that came to Alexander's mind.

"Sir Theo and Lindsey will stay with the horses and carriage. The rest will attempt the cross by the tree" Alexander ordered.

He returned to the carriage to inform Jamie of what was going on. It was safer for her to return to Aradale. But Alexander knew she would not want that.

"Come on, we have to walk from here on out. Are you ready for that or do you want to go back to the castle?" Alexander offered his hand to her and Jamie took it.

"I coming with you"

Jamie came down from the carriage and she waited patiently for everyone else to cross because Alexander insisted. And it was her turn to.

"You go on darling, cross to the other side. I will join you soon enough" Alexander kissed her cheek.

Alexander waited patiently and with each breath he took, it felt like darts. He watched the woman he loved attempt to cross a dangerous river by walking on a dying tree.

Alexander first felt it before he saw it. It was an ambush.

He moved out of the way quickly to avoid the blade that came out him but he was more worried about Jamie.

"Janessa, run!"

As soon as the words left his mouth, he felt a dread come over him and then he turned around just in time to see his wife fall inside the river.

Janessa!!!
