Chapter hundred and thirty five: Soaked
Semeen watched with terror as the Luna fell into the river. And over to the other side the king was under attack too. She was torn.
She couldn't be in both places at once.
Semeen dropped her dragger to take off her shoes when Ursla stop her.
"What are you doing? Let me go! The Queen is going to drown!" Semeen screamed at the girl she just met a few hours ago.
"Jamie is fine. She is a fish" Ursla said nonchalant.
"Let go or I will cut your hand!" Semeen meant her threat. She could see Blake and some of the knights crossing to help the king. Others were yelling for the queen but no one made an attempt to jump in the river.
Ursla let her go after she threw a murderous glare at her.
"Your choice....I am just saying that you don't have to get wet for nothing" Ursla took a step back.
"Hold on, Luna. I am coming for you!" Semeen yelled and ran towards the river.
She almost jumped inside but she saw Jamie pulling herself out of the river. Ursla was right. The Luna didn't need anyone's help.
"Your majesty!" Semeen moved closer to her instead.
She helped the Queen stand up and they moved further away from the river.
"It took you long enough, your majesty" Ursla said with a smile.
"You could have easily jumped in to save me!" Jamie managed to tell her off even though she was freezing.
"I told you that she needed help" Semeen interjected as she looked at Ursla.
Ursla opened the bag she was carrying and took out clothes. She moved closer and showed them to Jamie.
Jamie was thankful but Semeen was puzzled.
"Do you always carry clothes in your bag just in case the Queen falls into a river?" Semeen looked weirdly at the new girl.
Her actions were creepy and thoughtful.
"If we are traveling, I carry everything she will need" Ursla lowered her voice like she was telling Semeen a secret "I can see the future"
When Jamie saw the look on Semeen's face, she chuckled.
"It was a joke, Semeen and....I am freezing"
Both girls helped the Queen up and Jamie went to change behind a tree as they kept watch.
Wearing her old clothes brought back memories for Jamie. It reminded her of simpler time when she looked up to her father. When she ran freely in the forest without any responsibility, it was good days.
The pant and tunic fitted perfectly. If anyone looked at her, they won't see a Queen. They would see a girl comfortable in her own skin.
Jamie came out from behind the tree. Semeen was surprised to see her wear something as cheap and odd looking as her outfit.
"We need to help the king" Jamie turned around to follow the path to the river when two men came out to face her.
"Are you bad men?" She asked in a funny way.
Thank Thor! She thought she was going to miss the fight.
The men came after her expecting her to run but she simply pulled out her ankle dagger and waited patiently for them to come closer.
Soon Semeen and Ursla were by her side.
The fight didn't last a minute... they weren't enough men for them to beat up.
Jamie walked faster down the river to look for her husband. She saw him running towards her almost simultaneously.
She threw herself at him and he simply wrapped his hand around her. They fitted perfectly.
"Are you alright? Were you hurt?" Alexander asked in quick succession.
"I am alright. You are bleeding" Jamie noticed the tiny nick on Alexander's hand.
"It's nothing. For a moment, I couldn't breathe. If something had happened to you, Janessa. I don't know what I would do" Alexander was sincere.
When he had seen her fall in and he couldn't go after her, it was the worst moment of his life. Not knowing whether the woman he loves was drowning in the water or worst dead as he fought off hoodlums was the worst punishment in the history of punishments.
"I am alright. Good thing, I could swim right?" Jamie made a joke but Alexander didn't find it funny.
His face depleted the horror he felt inside of him. She might want to joke about it and forget it but it was a moment, he would never forget. The helplessness wasn't going away anytime soon.
He kissed her on the lips. The type of kiss that screamed I love you and don't try to die on him ever again.
"Do they still hate each other?" Ursla asked.
"Apparently not or maybe, they are just bad at hating each other. They are in love" Semeen answered.
She felt a little pain in her chest. Her feelings for Alexander might not be obvious since Jamie saved her life but surprise! Surprise! It was still there.
She looked at them for a little while, Semeen wondered if she would ever find her mate. She knew Alexander wasn't it. Every wolf knows their mate, it wasn't voluntary.
"We need to keep going" Ursla spoke to the couple. "If we have any chance of getting the man we are all risking our lives to rescue, may I suggest we go now?" She turned around and left.
They rest of the journey was in silence or at least for the most parts. Jamie walked with Alexander for a few minutes before he held her hand.
"You said that the worst thing that happened to me was that I found out I am married to a wolf...well, it isn't. Don't get me wrong, I am struggling with everything you've told me and everything you've shown me, anyone in my shoe would"
Alexander looked away. It stung a little bit and he should be thankful that it wasn't outright rejection.
"But I know who you are. Whether you are Max or Alexander, you are still the same person to me. I have never struggled with that. You are the man that I can always count on and most importantly, the only man I want to spend my life with" Jamie told him.
Alexander stopped and looked at her. He wondered why his heart was doing a small dance in his chest. "You do?"
"Yes...I do" Jamie replied truthfully "I am not saying being married to me is going to be easy but if you would have all my flaws....if you can stomach the idea that I am not your typical run of the mill princess/Queen, then I want to be yours" Jamie told him.
"Good. Who wants easy when they can have you, sweetheart" Alexander spoke in a sweet voice.
They were so involved with each other that they forget that they were surrounded by people. During the awkward proclamation of love, everyone kept their distance but stayed close enough to protect them.
Jamie smiled softly at his comment.
"You don't understand, Alexander. I am not going to give up swords and daggers for embroidery or any other activities suited for a Queen. I am going to be me and I won't wear ridiculous tight dresses or walk in uncomfortable shoes" Jamie told him.
Alexander thought about it for a minute before he replied.
"How about I make you an offer? You can be whomever you want in the castle but you will put on appearance for those uptight single minded monarchs if we ever find ourselves around them. I know it's too much to ask..."
Alexander was interrupted by Jamie.
"Alright, I accept your offer. Can we consummate our marriage as soon as we get back home?" Jamie asked him.
"No...Not yet"
"Why?" Jamie asked but before Alexander could answer, he heard Blake call him.

Jamie heard it too.
They both picked up the pace until the where at the small river. The only way they could get to the isle of the blessed was by canoe.
Alexander took Semeen, Blake, Ursla and Sir Walters with them but the rest had to wait for them to return.
The isle of the blessed was everything Alexander imagined and more. It was mysterious and shady.
Jamie turned to Semeen and asked whether she thought they would find answers here and Semeen confirmed it.
"I know that everything you just found out is overwhelming but we are nice people. We are your pack and we are...nice unless we are threatened then it's in our nature to fight back. Give us a chance, Luna"
"I am trying, Semeen. I just need time to wrap my head around everything" Jamie's eyes landed on her husband.
"It must be difficult for him, Semeen"
"Yes. Being King in both worlds is bound to be difficult. It's why he needs you"
They walked on the narrow hallway till they heard screams.
Alexander and everyone else raced towards the sound just in time for Ursla to throw the dagger at the man trying to kill Queen Eileen.
Luther Judd was on the ground and he looked dead.
