Chapter hundred and forty three: hidden under the sun

"How long have you known that I am a werewolf, Judd?"

Judd immediately came down from the horse he was on. For a man who hardly wears his emotions, Alexander could tell that he was nervous. He blinked thrice and he looked away.

"A werewolf?" He asked the King.

"Hmm, right now your mind is searching for a lie to tell me but just a gentle warning Luther, if you lie to me go ahead and make Koi your new home because I won't have need for you" Alexander threatened.

He knew that just like him, his shadow knight hated threats too, he was mentally and physically wired to rebel in the face of threats.

Judd cleared his throat. "How did you know that I have the littlest idea about what you are talking about, your highness?"

"Because Walters knew about it and he was bold enough to let me know. He told the truth instead of staying behind. Are you going to keep feigning ignorance or answer my question?" Alexander hopped on the horse and took off.

Luther did the same and soon they were trying to out run each other. They didn't stop until they reached the river that stood in between them and the Isle of the blessed.

Alexander and Judd both came down from their horses. Alexander ignored him but Judd intentionally placed himself between the canoe and the king.

"Can't we just pretend like I don't know?" Judd asked him.

"Yesterday, you said you were my family. luther, family don't keep secrets"

Alexander was talking and suddenly the weather changed. The sky was darker and he wasn't by the river anymore. Judd was nowhere to be found too.

"What the bloody hell is going on?" Alexander asked himself.

"Hello!"

The voice came from behind him. It was the woman in red. She was smiling.

"I heard you were looking for me. What can I do for you?"

"Where am I? And what have you done with my Knight?" Alexander asked her.

Red smiled even more. She touched his cheek "You really are a handsome man, king Alexander. It's a shame that your heart belongs to another"

Alexander took her hand away from his body "Answer my question!"

"You are unconscious and I am in your mind, thanks to the passage way your wife left open. Don't worry, your knight will keep you safe. You shouldn't treat him like an enemy. You won't find anyone more loyal" Red started walking towards the oak tree that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.

Alexander followed her.

"What do you want, Your highness?"

"The truth...what will it cost Janessa to cure me of my curse?" Alexander asked her.

"What makes you think she wasn't telling you the truth?" Red asked him

"Was she?" Alexander replied her with a question.

"No. Are you sure you want to know?"

"Yes!" Alexander answered.

When Alexander woke up, he was on the ground and his head was placed on the log of wood. And Luther Judd was sitting by the side staring at him like he had no intention of waking him up.

"How long was I unconscious for?" Alexander asked him as he sat upright.

"Four or five hours, give or take. Are you alright?" Judd asked him.

"Yes. Have you been sitting there all this time?" Alexander rubbed the back of his neck.

"No. I took the horse down the river to take water" Judd answered.

"We should go back. You are still recovering and you need the rest" Alexander stood up.

"Did you get the answer you are looking for?" Judd asked and stood up too.

"Yes. Yes, I did" Alexander answered with a sad voice.

"Do you regret knowing?" Luther asked him.

"Knowing is always better than not knowing, Judd. No matter how painful the truth is, I would choose it over a lie anytime of the day" Alexander answered and tried to mount his horse.

"Wait! What do you remember about the day your father was killed, your highness?" Judd asked him.

"Not much...just pieces and images, why?"

"Do you still want to know when I found out about your animal side?" Judd looked at the king but he was mute "It was that day. We were ambushed and both of our fathers were killed. I would have been next but you saved my life or at least, your wolf did. And I didn't tell Walters because I was a loose mouth, I wanted him to be able to protect you from anything without freezing in shock when you shift in his presence. You can trust him and if you can't trust me by now then maybe I am better off in my wife's kingdom. Can we go now?" Judd mounted his horse and they rode off together.

Alexander couldn't shake the feeling that he wasn't telling him everything. Some part of the story was missing. Judd didn't say another word till they got to the castle.

"You don't need to walk me to my room, Luther. I am not a child. Go be with your Queen" Alexander instructed him when Judd tried to follow him as soon as they got to King Jared's castle.

"She is my wife, not my Queen. A man can't have two monarchs but I will go to Eileen" Judd turned to leave but there was no need too.

Both of their wives were standing by one of the pillars of the castle with angry eyes directed at them.

Judd stopped walking and so did Alexander.

"Why did you stop walking?" Alexander asked him.

"Nothing. You are King. I should walk behind you" Judd answered.

"Coward!" Alexander taunted him.

"Like you are any better than I am" Judd answered.

Alexander exhaled. "Let's get this over with. We can outrun them easily"

Both men made it up to the castle to face their wives but the Queens turned around and left them standing there.

"Janessa!" Alexander yelled after his wife.

"Don't yell her name like that! You remember that people are still trying to kill both of you but you think it's a great idea to disappear for five hours without letting anyone know of your whereabouts!" Eileen chastised Alexander in the hallway.

"It's not the king's fault!" Judd intervened

"Of course, you are not exempt from the blame Luther " Janessa answered Judd. "both of you and your arrogant devils may care attitude, you think it's adorable but it also makes you buffoons!"

The king and his knights stood frozen to the spot while their wives walked away.

"What just happened right now?" Judd asked the king.

"I think it's a new technique to freak us out. Your wife yelled at me and mine, yelled at you. And I must say, it's working. I am freaked out" Alexander said and went after his wife.

When Alexander entered the bed chamber, Jamie was sitting down by the window. He moved closer and squatted down. He kissed her behind the ear.

"Sorry, I was a Buffoon" Alexander chuckled at the word.

"It's not funny. I was worried about you. Where did you go?" Jamie asked him.

"Nowhere. Judd and I needed to talk. He knows that I am a werewolf and so does Walters" Alexander knew that the information was serious enough for Jamie to accept it as the truth.

"Are you sure?!"

"I am" Alexander confirmed.

"What are we going to do? What if they tell someone or try to kill you. We have to do something!" Jamie was panicked.

"They are loyal to me. There is nothing to worry about, Monisha"

Jamie stood up from the chair and she started pacing. "No this is not good! This is terrible! This is…"

Alexander grabbed her shoulder in a soothing way.

"Judd has known for nine years and Walters for almost two weeks. They are a part of our pack, now. They are family" Alexander reassured her.

Jamie made herself tall by standing on her toes and she kissed Alexander passionately.

Alexander groaned like he was in pain and pushed her off.

"What is it?" Jamie questioned him.

"Nothing. I am just dirty and I need a bathe" Alexander shrugged it off.

"I don't mind. You smell okay to me" Jamie resisted.

"Join me…" Alexander said with a seductive smile.

"You want us to bathe together?" Jamie laughed heartily "Alright"

"I think Judd is lying to me" Alexander voiced out all of a sudden.

"Do you think he means you harm?" Jamie asked him.

"No. I think something happened on the day my father died. Did you know we both lost our fathers to that attack?" Alexander told her.

"I am sorry. It's sad. Do you want me to take a glimpse of the past for you?" Jamie offered.

"That would be appreciated but I don't like seeing you prick yourself to draw blood Janessa" Alexander told her.

"I have to" Jamie pulled out his smaller blade and gave herself a small cut. "Hold me"

And Alexander did. Jamie touched him and she tried to see his past. She took her hand away after a few seconds. She looked up at Alexander with terrified eyes.

"What! What did you see?!" Alexander wanted to know.

"You killed Judd's father!"
