Chapter hundred and forty five: Face it or run.

Eileen stood up and went to the table. She picked up a scroll and a pen, she wrote something and stamped it with her seal as Queen.

She came back and handed it over to Judd.

"What is this?" Judd asked.

"It's a decree that will take effect when we return to Koi" She informed him.

Judd read the scroll.

"You are giving me a lordship title and lands in exchange for saving your life?"

Judd was annoyed and insulted.

"Now, we are even Luther Judd"

Immediately Eileen left the room, Judd tore the scroll into two and pinned it with his blade to the table. What insolence!

Judd stormed out in anger in hopes to catch up with Eileen. He plans to shake her until she has her senses back because she didn't just insult him, she wounded his pride too. And a knight was nothing without his honor.

He came across the King and the queen in the hallway and he stopped to acknowledge their presence but only briefly as he had more important things to do. He walked away as soon as he saw Eileen making a turn on the Eastern corner of the Castle.

"Eileen!"He yelled her name in anger but the queen of Koi refused to stop for him.

Jamie stopped and so did Alexander. It was unnatural. They had never seen Judd angry like that before.

Jamie couldn't shake the feeling that there was something wrong somewhere. She turned and faced her husband. Her head tilted to the right and her lips tightly pressed together.

"You have to talk to him, Alexander. It's killing you. You couldn't even look him in the face a few seconds ago"

Jamie knew that Alexander was struggling with the truth and he would keep struggling until he talked to Luther Judd.

"What do you want me to say to him? I killed your father, sorry I don't remember. How stupid does that sound? Why can't I remember? I didn't kill his father. Right? There is no way he would be my shadow Knight if I killed his father. Nobody in his right senses would...right?" Alexander was really struggling with the knowledge of what Jamie's vision informed him of.

Jamie touched his arm softly, she hated that he was feeling that way because of her. She made Alexander face her, and she looked him straight in the eye tenderly.

"Talk to you Judd, you know you want to. But I know who you are, Alexander. I know what you're capable of doing. You're not the type of person to take another person's life without a reason. You did not murder his father in cold blood. You just have to ask Judd for help in remembering the details. And for the sake of your friendship with him I hope it's a good enough reason because the alternative is bad, Alexander. The alternative can't be possible because you are Alexander and you are good. Even though you try to hide it from everyone"

Alexander tried to hide his true feelings with a smile. Jamie's belief in him was so strong he didn't have the heart to correct her.

How should he tell the woman he loves that before he met her he was a monster? He was the devil mothers warned their children about and even though his father, King Darius turned him into a seven-headed creature that terrified everybody, he did not stop either. Hell! There was a time he enjoyed the blood shed.

Maybe he was his father's son and he can't run away from that.

"What if there...was no reason? What if I really murdered him in cold blood? Jamie, I was...my father made sure that I wasn't soft and that meant that I had to turn my back on everything that made me human. I was different then, you think I am bad now? Before I was the worst. I was evil. I think we should just let go of that night and put it behind us... Judd has"

Jamie knew it was Alexander's fear that was talking. She saw it in the way his body was tense up and the way he stared at her like he was terrified of finding out the truth. He was terrified for both himself and on her behalf.

Jamie wanted him to see himself the way she sees him. She wished that he could take a look at a mirror and see the kind hearted man he tries so hard to hide from everyone. To see the man that gave her a home even when she rebelled with everything in her body against it.

She would give everything she had for Alexander to see that, to see that he was good and incapable of such monstrosity.

And the queen knew that if she let him off easily that Alexander would appear to be alright physically but the guilt of not knowing would slowly kill him.

And knowing what she has to do to lift the curse and what it was going to cost her, Jamie knew she couldn't leave him like that, broken in so many ways.

She couldn't sentence him to a life without Luther Judd, his most trusted protector and confidant, not when it was certain that she wasn't going to be there for him.

She was not going to be around forever, sooner than later she'll be gone and Alexander would have to learn how to live with that.

Alexander needed Judd.

"Talk to Judd or I will, Alexander"

Alexander looked away after he saw that Jamie's mind was made up and he couldn't in good conscience allow her to approach Judd.

He had to do it himself. Alexander's head kept pounding like a native tribe was playing drums in his head and all of a sudden, blood was rushing to his heart and he knew he had to get it under control or he would start hyperventilating. There was no going back now. It was time for the truth.

"Okay I will talk to Judd. Will you be alright on your own" Alexander kissed her forehead.

"Yes sir, I will be" She replied.

Jamie turned around to see her father approaching and she regretted her answer.

"How about I go with you?" She suggested it to her husband.

"How about you stay and talk to your father? You can run from him forever" Alexander advised her.

"I can try. I have a feeling I will be good at it" Jamie quipped.

"Talk to your father. I love you" he kissed her cheek and walked away to find Judd.

When Alexander found his knight he was sitting outside on a rock sharpening his sword. He was calm but the lines on his forehead told the king that Judd was not in the mood to talk to anyone.

Judd was angry and he was doing what he loves doing. He was sharpening his sword to prevent himself from dealing with his emotions.

"You are sharpening your sword, I take it that Eileen is driving you crazy?" Alexander started with a joke.

Judd stood up and bowed to him.

"Do you mind if I join you?" Alexander asked him.

Judd spared him a glance, one of his eyebrows was raised. "You are King. You don't need my permission, your highness"

Alexander knew what he was doing. He was using their status to drive a mental distance between them.

"We need to talk, Judd. I need to know what happened on the day we were ambushed several years ago. I need the truth" Alexander told him.

Judd stopped sharpening his sword and dropped it on the ground. He looked up and it took all of his will power not to yell at the king to go away.

"We were ambushed and the king died. You were stabbed and I escaped with minor injury. End of story" Judd told him in between his clenched teeth. He stood up and bowed to the king again "I have to find my wife, your highness"

Judd started to walk away when he heard Alexander's voice.

"I think you are purposely omitting a vital detail of that story, Luther Judd!"

Judd turned around "You know everything that is of importance, King Alexander"

Judd's voice sounded like a warning. Like he was telling the king to back off and leave him alone.

"I killed your father! Don't you think that it is worth mentioning in your little story" Alexander yelled at him.

Judd looked down. His chest rising and falling softly.

"You said you didn't remember anything about that night, your highness" Judd whispered.

"I don't. At least, not everything. I killed your father, Judd. I slit his throat"

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" Judd yelled numerous times at him.

"Tell me what happened. Why did I kill your father?"

Alexander wasn't ready for what was about to happen next.

Judd attacked him.

The king barely had time to defend the attack.

Judd was taller but Alexander was faster. In physical strength both men were almost the same. Judd could hold his own against Alexander. He could even win if Alexander dropped his gourd just a little bit.

Before Alexander could wrap his head around the fact that Judd was trying to get his hand around his neck, he forgot to protect himself. In a wrinkle of an eye, Judd's arms were wrapped around the king's neck and he was choking him.

"I said shut up!"
