Chapter hundred and forty eight: If I can rewrite the stars 2

Luther stood frozen to the spot as everyone fought. It was when the king transformed into a werewolf and killed almost all his attackers. Liam wasn't surprised by the king's transformation, he knew along and he was prepared for it.

As King Darius fought out the dozen more bandits that came out of the wood, Liam saw an opportunity to kill his son. He was stronger and faster than Alexander. He picked up the silver dagger and threw it at Alexander but Darius got in-between the silver dagger and his son.

The dagger impaled into his heart and he fell on the ground, he changed back to human.

"Papa!" Alexander yelled and ran to him.

Blood tripped out of Darius's mouth. He was choking on it.

"Father" Alexander's eyes were clear. There were no tears in them.

"Xander, what have I done?" Darius asked him.

"You saved my life, father. You saved my life" Alexander reminded him.

"I didn't. My wolf did, I guess he didn't believe what I told him" Darius replied.

"What?" Alexander asked him.

"That you are worthless. You are unworthy of the throne...seems like my wolf finds you worthy enough or maybe he was trying to purge himself of the guilt of killing your mother by mistake. But be worthy of his sacrifice, Xander. Conquer the East and kill the Judds" Darius told him.

"No. As soon as you are dead. I am pulling back the battalions from the East. I am nothing like you, Darius" Alexander stood up and watched him as he choked to death after whispering something he couldn't make out.

When Alexander turned around, Liam Judd was staring at him.

"I don't want any trouble. Take your family and leave the west. I won't come after you for killing the king, Sir Liam Judd" Alexander gave him a way out.

"I deserve the throne, boy" Liam told him.

"Even if you kill me here, Rosemund will be Queen not you, Sir Liam" Alexander reminded him.

"A dead girl can't be Queen either!" Liam Judd attacked Alexander but Luther defended him.

It was instinct. He didn't even think about it.

"Pick a side, son...mine or his" Liam gave his son an ultimatum.

Alexander looked away. He knew Luther would pick his father. They might be related by blood but Liam raised him to be his own. He turned around and spoke to Luther Judd.

"I won't go down without a fight!"

"Pick a side, Luther!" Liam yelled at his son.

"What about our duty, father? What about everything you taught me about honor? When I was ten years old I asked you when should a shadow Knight stop protecting the crown?" Luther reminded him.

"Pick a side, Son!"

"The answer is never, Father. The Judds have been lead knights and king's shadow for centuries, to a Judd nothing is more important than his duty to the crown. Duty comes before everything else, including family" Judd was in tears "I will conquer the whole world to protect you, father. I will pick your side everyday for the rest of my life but if the choice is you or the crown, I will kill you to protect the crown"

"You are choosing the devil over me, Luther?" Liam was surprised.

"You've lost your way, father. Surrender and the king will show you Mercy" Judd pulled out his sword.

"You are not my son" Liam told him through his clenched jaw.

"I am Luther Judd...I am a Judd. You taught me this, you made me into this. I am your son, father. Just surrender, Alexander is not like his father...he will spare your life" Luther turned around to look at Alexander "Right, your highness?"

Alexander could see Luther's hand tremble slightly. The boy was terrified of fighting his father yet he was willing to just to protect him.

"Right, your highness? You are not your father and you will spare mine" Luther pleaded with Alexander.

"Fine. Tell him to leave the West and never come back but you are staying with me"

Alexander told him.

"No! He is my father. I should go-"

"Luther, watch out!" Alexander yelled as he saw Liam attack his son from behind.

Luther heard the sound of the blade slicing through his back before he even felt the pain. He fell to the ground. He vaguely remembered as his father raised the sword to plunge into his heart.

"You bloody bastard! You are not my son!"

Luther Judd waited for the pain but right before Liam tried to push the sword into him. Someone slashed his throat. Liam turned around and plunged the silver blade he was holding into Alexander's belly and he fell to his death.

"Father!" Luther yelled from the ground he was lying.

"You...you are a traitor, Luther"

He pulled himself closer and watched as life went out of Liam Luther's eyes.

When he turned around, Alexander was staggering with a silver dagger in his belly.

"Your highness?" He tried to go to Alexander but he started to change into a werewolf like King Darius. Judd could hear more people coming towards where they were.

The werewolf Max stared at him with bloodshot eyes. He was in pain by the way he was howlering.

"Run! They will kill you. Run, Alexander!" Luther yelled at him and threw a rock at him.

Max turned around and raced into the forest.

Luther moved closer to his father and placed his head on his chest. He wept for a very long time.

****

Present day.

Luther looked away, he didn't want the king to see the fresh batch of tears that was beginning to form in his eyes.

Stupid tears! He was a freaking knight! A force of nature, only a handful of men ever fought him and lived long enough to tell the story!

Why was a mere story...a little glimpse of the past making him weep like an infant?! It wasn't just embarrassing, it was degrading.

Yet, he couldn't stop the sobs. Yet he couldn't look at the king. Alexander killed his father, big deal! His father Liam Judd killed the king, big deal! Judd wondered why he had to tell the story. What did Alexander achieve except pull down the wall he spent years building.

Without those walls, those barricades to keep out unwanted emotions, he was just a man that was lying on the ground and whimpering like an infant.

He should have left it alone. Alexander should have let the sleeping dog lie.

Alexander watched his Knight...his brother, and he was trying to hide his sadness from him. The way his body shook, the way he turned away from him, the king knew he was ashamed that he was feeling his emotions.

"Luther?" He called out to him.

He turned around a flash of rage surging through him as he faced the King "Now, that you know...what will you do with it? Everything has to be done your way. You are high and mighty. You have no regards for anybody else. You killed my father and you didn't bother to remember it! You won't let me forget either. You are a selfish hypocritical asshole who didn't do what you taught me. And you dare call me a traitor? You are the traitor!"

Alexander was quiet for a minute.

"Luther, your father tried to kill you" Alexander murmured to him.

The pain shot through him like needles."You said to be honorable. To be a man of my words, to place duty over every other thing. I do what you asked of me. What you taught me and you stabbed me in the back, your highness?"

"Luther, you have to acknowledge it. Your father tried to kill you. You need to say it out loud" Alexander told him again but he just kept mumbling.

"You teach me one thing and do another thing, your highness. What happened to...I am Judd, I have honor and duty and without those, Aradale will fall. The fate of this hemisphere is on my shoulders, the strength of the king is only as good as mine but whatever I do, I shall not forget to be honorable. I am a bloody knight. I am your son"

Alexander grabbed his shirt and forced him to turn around. He started shaking him, he wanted him to snap it.

"Luther! I need you to say it!" Alexander yelled at him.

Judd stopped talking. He looked up at the king and he blinked..

"M-my father, he t-tried to kill me. I am his son and he t-tried to kill me"

"Yes. Liam Judd tried to kill you. I am sorry, Luther" Alexander exhaled "I am sorry I killed your father. But I am not sorry, I saved your life, Judd"

Luther stared at him. His eyes were blank.

"Who am I, your highness? If I am not a Judd then who am I?"

"You are my brother. And I should have protected you better"
