Chapter hundred and sixty six

: This is for the ones that stood their grounds.

"Who are you?" Rosemund asked again in her terrified voice.

The man with a nasty scar across his face took another step forward towards her. Rosemund used all of her self control to prevent herself from taking a step back and risk falling inside the creek.

"Call me Cash. And who are you, my fair lady?" The nasty man asked Rosemund.

"Rose..." the crown princess murmured.

"Did no one tell you that the forest isn't safe for young maidens especially with the idiotic little girl that was left in charge of the kingdom by a bigger hypocrite, who started the war anyway?" Cash watched her curiously.

Rosemund blinked. She hates being called names and she hated the attack on her beloved brother even more.

She wondered who they were, by the strange outfit and nasty homemade weapons, Rosemund took a wild guess that paid off.

"You are the resistance" Rosemund whispered out loud

"Smart girl. So, tell me can your family afford your ransom or do I have to come up with creative use of an exquisite creature like you?!" Cash asked her.

Rosemund quivering breath gave her away, she was terrified of the man.

"Ha-ha! Just kidding. We don't bother the working class…just those obnoxious peerages who are the cause of all the problems in our beautiful hemisphere" Cash said in a weird laugh that placed the princess at ease.

"Go home and don't wander off again, Rose! The world is a dangerous place for a pretty little thing like you. Do you need an escort or can you find your way home!" Cash asked her.

"I can manage. Thanks. I shall take my leave now" Rosemund took the first step but Cash grabbed her hand.

"You sound educated?" Cash noticed with a suspicious glare.

"Because I am. My mother taught me how to read as a little girl, gods bless her soul" Rosemund answered. It was a truth even if it wasn't the whole truth.

Cash was about to let her go when another one of his cohort stepped forward.

He squirted his eyes as he inspected the princess.

"I know you from somewhere" he started talking.

"I have one of those faces, but no, I didn't think we had met before…."

"No, we have…Wait! I got it now. You are the crown princess Rosemund of Aradale, aren't you?"

Immediately Rosemund heard her full name mentioned, she and Cash almost turned simultaneously.

Rosemund thought of what to say or do in this predicament she found herself. Was she supposed to deny her identity or own up to it and suffer the consequences?

She knew that her brother would want her to do anything in her power to get home alive even if that meant lying but someone else she knew would never call herself something else just to escape trouble. Jamie would stand her ground and damn these idiots to do their worst.

Without even thinking about it much, Rosemund made her choice.

"I am Rosemund of Aradale. You will bow before me or suffer the consequences" She really tried to make her voice bold but it was shaky and she made a mistake of holding in air for too long.

Cash shifted his head from left to right as he glued his eyes on the jackpot standing before him.

He grabbed her face roughly and licked the side of it with his tongue. The gagging reflex and the disgusting look on Rosemund's face didn't help matters.

Her heart pounded faster and faster every waking minute.

What was this monster going to do to her? She prayed for a miracle. Something to get her out of this mess she got herself into but it seemed like a miracle was far from her reach.

"Do you know how long I have waited to get my hands on a royale?" Cash asked with a murderous glare.

He tried to pull her closer to himself but something happened, an arrow flew right past him leaving a mark on his left cheek. It was a miracle his head wasn't impaled to the tree.

"The royales are off limits" the voice said from the horse she sat on.

Cash didn't even hear the horse approach in the first place.

"Who are you? This doesn't concern you" one of Cash's goons asked.

"I think it does. Hand over my little sister and I will spare your life. My next arrow won't miss your big head" Jamie took out another arrow and pointed it at Cash's head.

She was outnumbered. Cash's men were about fifteen but she didn't care.

"Jamie!" Rosemund yelled as Cash drew a dagger and placed it on her neck.

"Last warning!" Jamie released the arrow she was holding and it impaled the goon that spoke after Cash earlier.

"One down, fourteen to go! Next one will be your head, dimwit!" Jamie pointed it at him.

"My dagger on the princess's throat or your arrow, which will be faster and do more harm?"

Jamie shrugged nonchalantly like she doesn't care.

"What is your name, Lady?"

"Jamie" she murmured without a smile.

"You are the eastern Princess. You are Queen. We have two royalties with us!" Cash yelled like he just won a big fight.

"Drop the arrow or I slit her throat?" Cash threatened with a glare as he pressed the dagger tightly on Rosemund's neck.

Rosemund felt fear like never before spread down her whole body like desert fire. She controlled her breathing to avoid spooking him into acting irrationally.

She wondered what the sister in law she was unkind to, would do next.

"Jamie!" She whispered through her clenched jaw.

Jamie blinked.

"I have a better offer for you" She told him.

"Let's hear it " Cash said.

"Let's fight…me and you, winner takes it all. If you win, the land you are stand on becomes yours, I will give you a bag of money too but the princess walks" Jamie told Cash.

"That is not much of a deal, is it? When I win, I want you too. You are a sweet little thing" Cash said and looked at her seductively.

"Deal!" Jamie murmured.

"No! No!" Rosemund protested violently.

"Shut up, Rose" Jamie turned her attention to Cash "How many men are in your command?"

"Plenty…"

"I want a number" Jamie insisted.

"Three hundred from all over Derkal. The resistance is all over" Cash answered.

"I want them. If I win, in addition to you returning my sister unharmed….the resistance will answer to me and only me. I become their supreme leader….you will answer to me, deal?" Jamie said in her serious voice.

Cash laughed like Jamie was delusional.

"Deal"

Jamie came down from the horse. She lowered her arrow and Cash pushed the dagger away from the princess.

They stood in the middle with fourteen men surrounding them.

Semeen got there first followed by Ursla. The commander tried to stop it but Ursla stopped her.

"She doesn't need help" Ursla murmured.

"I don't like this, Ursla"

"I really do!" Ursla smiled and sat under the tree.

Jamie sized up the man. He was bigger, sturdier and nastier but she was determined and strong willed.

He tried to grab her neck but Jamie was fast on her feet. She moved out of the way and slammed her elbow into his back.

He yelled out in pain. Cash had underestimated her.

Big mistake! But he always learnt from his mistakes.

He went after her again and landed a punch just above her breast. Jamie felt the pain but she didn't show it.

Jamie curled her hand into a fist and aimed for the bridge of his nose. He didn't expect it. his blood splattered all over.

Jamie tried to hit him again but he deflected easily. He grabbed her and lifted her up like a bag of feathers until she was dangling on the tip of his toes. She knew she had to be smarter and faster since he was obviously sturdier and bigger. Jamie slammed her elbow on the back of his neck and he loosened his grip enough for her to escape his hold.

Cash winced in pain and retaliated by picking her up and slamming her into the hard ground. Jamie didn't move for a second. She heard Rosemund scream and the gasp from Semeen, then the hailing from Cash's men.

Cash lifted his hand in victory but Jamie, still lying down, kicked his legs so hard that he fell down too.

The next time she came at him, he was ready. It went on for some minutes.

Jamie was fast while Cash had more ruthlessness and neither was willing to say surrender.

But soon, Cash made the mistake of lifting her up again and Jamie took a move from Ursla's playbook, she took the opportunity to wrap her legs around his neck and choked him until he was about to expire.

"Surrender!" She yelled at him.

But he refused and so she kept choking him.

"I said surrender"

She could hear the beating of the drums that was playing while her husband went off to war. She was dedicating this fight to all those people that stood their ground and won.

"Last warning…surrender the resistance to me!"
