Chapter hundred and sixty seven: Talk to me.

"I surrender!" Cash yielded to the Queen when he saw that she had no plans to let him go until he was dead or surrendered.

Jamie unwrapped her legs from his neck.

She wiped off the droplets of blood on her lips.

Maybe, she should sit down. Even the ground was unsteady but goodness gracious! That was the most fun she had had in a long while.

Fighting without inhibition or feelings. Just following instinct and knowing where it led.

She was absolutely surprised and unprepared when Rosemund threw herself at her and considering that the princess was from a family of giants, Jamie staggered for a while before she found her balance.

She hugged Rosemund back for a minute before she grabbed her hand and hurried her towards the horse. Rosemund mounted the horse and Jamie sat behind her. She was furious.

Jamie tried to leave with her sister in law but Semeen stopped her.

"Excuse me, your majesty but what should I do with them?" Semeen asked her.

"Hmm…make them swear allegiance to me and send half of them to the king. We need all the help we can find and Semeen, come find me later"

With that, Jamie made the horse gallop towards the castle with the crown princess securely seated in front of her.

When they got to the stable, Jamie came down and so did Rosemund.

The princess could feel the repressed anger on the Queen's face as she secured the horse.

"You are angry" Rosemund voiced out.

"No, I am not" Jamie insisted.

"If you want to yell at me then do it" Rosemund permitted her.

"I said that I was not angry, Rosemund. I mean what you did wasn't just reckless and foolish, you placed yourself and the entire royal family in harm's way. Hell, you placed the West in its entirety in jeopardy. If something happens to you, the economy of the west crashes and worse, I have to look your brother in the eyes and tell him that I failed to protect you! It's was stupid and it was reckless and it was something, Rosemund I know would never do!"

Rosemund exhaled. For someone who said that she wasn't angry, Jamie had a lot to say to her.

And she deserved it.

"I am exhausted, okay?! I just needed a bloody break from being an impromptu Queen over a war ridden hemisphere, a break from worrying about my two brothers and just a bloody break to think!" Rosemund lost her temper too but her anger wasn't directed at Jamie. She was just venting.

"For a moment, I just did what I thought you would do, Jamie. I simply took a walk in your shoes and it was absolutely terrifying and gut wrecking. I won't do it again, okay?" Rosemund looked at Jamie with a serious expression.

"I am sorry" She murmured.

Jamie spared her a glance. It was the first time Rosemund had ever apologized to her.

Jamie looked away briefly before she looked at her again.

"I guess you've learned your lesson, Rose. Please, don't try to be me…we need you. The last time Aradale needs is another hothead in the Royal family. I will make you a deal…be the responsible one and I will take all of the risk and do the crazy things. And if you need help, Rose…all you have to do is ask for it…"

Jamie didn't finish her statement when Rosemund spoke up.

"I need help with the kingdom!"

"Fine, I will help you but you won't insult me afterwards" Jamie had a raised eyebrow.

"I will do my best" Rosemund bowed slightly to her.

Jamie thought about it for a second. She wondered how many times she would be bitten before she stopped offering her help. But then she remembered she was doing it for Alexander.

"Alright. I will sit with you in the king's court this evening. I have to go and make myself look presentable" Jamie walked out.

As soon as she did, Rosemund took a brush and started brushing the horse as everything she just encountered flashed through her eyes.

Rosemund stayed a while. She only turned around when she heard footsteps approaching.

"Your royal highness"

It was Heaven. She bowed to the princess.

"You are my sister in law's maid, aren't you?" Rosemund asked her.

"Yes, I am. Sorry, for the intrusion, I was told the Queen was here, Princess Rosemund. I was told she needed help tidying up. I am glad she was in a fight, it might mean she won't cry herself to sleep tonight"

Heavens tried to leave but Rosemund stopped her.

"What do you mean by 'cry herself to sleep'?"

"I apologize. I must have spoken out of turn, princess Rosemund. Forgive me…I have to find the Queen" Heavens wanted to flog herself for her mistake.

She hurried, practically stopping herself severally from racing to the Queen. She must find the Queen and confess her aggression and willingness to bear any punishment melted to her.

**

Jamie sat on the stool as she tried fruitlessly to brush off the debris in her red hair. She was still doing that when Semeen knocked and walked inside to have a word with her.

"Luna, you requested my presence. But before you tell me how poorly the pack performed their duties when it came to protecting the princess, I already know and they would be punished very well" Semeen started to say but Jamie dro quit my job to come on the tables and turned around to look at her

"Shut up Semeen. I did not call you to talk about the recklessness of Alexander's sister. I called you here to communicate with Alexander. It's been 5 days and he hasn't reached out to me and I can't wait any longer hoping that he will. So I need you to send him a message. Tell him that in his absence I wrestled with the leader of the resistance and I won. And if it doesn't start talking to me again I will be under fight with a bigger son of a tooth and I may not be. So tell him to talk to me and…and tell him I miss him too. Wait! Don't tell him I miss him, I'm sure you're ready to close things and I don't want him to start thinking about it. Just…just tell him that I need to hear voices in my head"

The commander knew that the Queen was hiding her inpatient and worried well but she knew better and so she decided to go closer to the war and gather some information.

Semeen stood up and bowed to Jamie

"I will do my best to make sure that weekend you receive your message. But as soon as you hear something will you let me know? I have to take my leave then,I have some warriors to relax"

Semeen looked at him one more time before before departing

**

Rosemund dropped the brush she was holding. She didn't know what to feel about everything she just discovered.

Her sister in law wasn't a stone, she was just as broken as the rest of them. Somehow she found comfort in that.

Rosemund was almost out of the stable when she heard her name.

"Princess Rosemund! Princess Rosemund!"

She recognized the voice.

It was Semeen. When she finally physically appeared in front of her, her face was puffy and red. Rosemund was confused as to why the Commander was crying in front of her, then she heard the first bell, then the second, the third and…the fourth.

"No!"

Rosemund's took a step back.

She swallowed her hot saliva like her breathing depended on it.

"No! No! No! No!" Rosemund took off in a run towards the front of the castle.

She knew she was supposed to control herself and deal with her emotions in private but she couldn't.

She ran as fast as her legs could carry her to the balcony and she saw the flag of the western hemisphere and the knights in their ceremonial wear instead of the war regalia.

It hit her hard. Her body shook with the tremor of a leaf in the mercy of a violent wind.

"No! No! No! No!" She yelled on top of her voice but it didn't stop the carriage from opening up and the three knights with white hand gloves from stepping down.

The second carriage stopped and two men were carried out lying on the wooden pan looking pale and dull.

"No! No!" Rosemund screamed in horror.

One of them was Luther Judd. She thought it was unbearable.

She knew that nobody else knew of Judd's paternity. The death knights only wear white gloves for a royalty that was killed in battle followed by the folding of the flag of Aradale.

Rosemund stopped screaming and she starred as the death knights took the flag and started folding it.

"Alexander" She muttered before the darkness enveloped her.

Everywhere was pitch black as Rosemund drifted into the dark space to oblivion.
